I haven't had an analog since I switched to vaping this past February. I've read several times about how others have tried an analog after vaping for a while had how nasty they tasted, disgusting, etc...

Last Friday while standing outside with a smoker, I decided to try The Test. He gave me one of his.

I lit it (odd having to borrow a lighter...) and did a slow inhale, expecting all that I've read. I was ready to gag and retch.

Conclusion ?

It wasn't that bad.

Not good enough to go back to smoking, but it wasn't the disgusting experience I was expecting.

Maybe I'm different from the norm, but all I thought of was "Oh yeah, I remember this.".

I took two more hits then went back to vaping. I did NOT miss the resulting stank that hung with me for a while...

I know that doesn't make me seem like a Team Vapor player, just being honest here....

I have been frightened that I would like the taste of an analog after quitting. Luckily, the one time that I tried I had just been vaping a flavor called buttery nipple. Marlboro red did not do well stacked against that flavor at the time. I did enjoy the familiar feeling that the inhale and exhale provided, but seriously couldn't get past the taste. Yuk!!! When I went back inside everyone smelled the smoke on me and thought that I had started smoking again. It figures...I feel so fortunate for that I hated it. I am glad that it didn't sway you back to analogs. Thanks for sharing. :2cool:

I didn't completely quit when I started vaping over three years ago. I did go from over two packs a day down to about 6 or 8 the first week. Vaping just took away the desire. I thought I'd just hang on to the ones after a meal and with coffee for a while. I continued doing that for another two years.

One day I decided I wasn't going to buy another pack and quit. I waited for the struggle to start and it never happened. I just dropped those last few and never went back. To this day people can smoke around me and I have no interest. I think quitting is easy for some and harder for others, but vaping will at least let you get rid of almost all the smokes. You can easily drop the last few later. For some, a gradual transition is easier.

Actually, you smelled WORSE. You don't smell ALL the scent because you get used to it fairly quickly.

As for liking to smoke again... Some of us do and some do not.
Most people vape to quit smoking and are concerned if they like their old brand. Don't be. It's not the end of the world or anything. At least for most, it becomes a choice to start up again. Rather than an addictive must have.

I started vaping to replace tobacco, and it worked for me. I find the inhaled pipe tobacco really bad tasting. I have no desire to take it up again :)

My husband and I started Vaping 70+ Days ago (he smoked for over 40 years) and from the day we got our gear and started, neither one of us smoked another Cig. Well, he enjoys drinking Beer on the weekends...it was VERY hard during those times for him just starting out...but he did it and never picked up a Cig. Anyhow, we had about 2 Cartons of Cigs when we started Vaping...and kept them...still have them..well one evening while him and I were out back drinking a few beers a couple weeks ago, I asked him...are you still wanting a Real Cig...he said, Oh yea...so I remembered what you were talking about...how every one hates a Real Cig after Vaping for a while...so I told him, I'll go get you one just to see if its going to taste as good as you remember. I'm thinking he'll take one or two drags and see how Nasty they were and put it out. That did NOT happen!! He was like a kid getting some really good candy! LOL He smoked that whole cig with a crap eating grin on his face the whole time! I will say this though..after about 4 drags I had to move away from him..the smell was Awful...no I know why Non Smokers have such a problem when people smoke near them! It was actually almost hard for me to even breathe being close to him smoking.

Anyhow..after he put it out he said..that taste just as good as I remember...what?? LOL He didn't go back to smoking though (Thank Goodness!!) That was his one and only in 70+ days.

The clingy odor of tobacco is something we as smokers didn't fully comprehend when we were smokers. Now, when someone goes out to smoke and comes back, the odor will knock your socks off. I understand why when I went out to the break area and came back into the computer room at work, people would wrinkle their face if I walked up and started to talk with them. It's terrible!

I've taken a puff on two different occasions, but didn't inhale either time. I wanted to see how bad they tasted (bleh), but didn't want to get that feeling after inhaling 'cause I knew I'd like it.

I'm not fooling myself; so far vaping is not as satisfying as smoking, or at least the memory of smoking. Furtunately it's close enough that I won't go back as long as I have vaping gear.

I still will break down and buy a pack every few weeks, which is why I stopped using the "since my last cigarette" banner in my sig. It takes me a couple of days to smoke them all.
But you're right. The taste just isn't there, but there's something about the "ritual" that still has a few fingers still holding on to me.
One thing I will say, analogs produce lousy vape! I mean, like thin and wispy! NO satisfaction whatsoever.

I still have a cigarette every once in a while, like maybe around 30 in the last four years.
They really don't taste very good, but like bmrdave I like the ritual.

And I also agree with bmrdave that with respect to vapor, throat hit, and flavor they are no match for vaping.
They taste kind of like burning tobacco and paper, with a hint of carpet glue.

I passed a test without even realizing it...I was with my mother in the car and she had left one burning in the ashtray when she ran in the store. I was just sitting there and didn't realize it was there. Didn't even think of picking it up.

I did that a while back. My wife handed her cig to me when she had to get out and go into a convenience store. I held it like it was poison! I certainly wasn't about to take a hit ... didn't want to.

I haven't tried an analog again yet, but I don't doubt that I will at some point, if from nothing but curiousity. But the funny thing is, I don't fear that. Every time I quit smoking before, I was terrified of the day when I lit a cigarette again, because I knew that when I did, it was all over. I'd be right back up to 2 or more packs a day, guaranteed - it was only a matter of time. One cigarette would put me back in a pit I'd have to laboriously claw my way back out of, if I even had the willpower to attempt it again.

I don't feel like that anymore. The fear is gone. I know that even if I smoked an analog while out with friends or something, and even if I still liked it on some level, it doesn't mean I'll start smoking again, so long as I don't want to. I have an alternative that works now. I don't plan to go out of my way to smoke an analog, but if I did for some reason, it's nice to not be afraid - to be confident that it's not the end of the world, the doom of me.

I tried twice in my life to quit. The first one didn't last long. The second time I made it about two and a half years until a breakup sent me back to buy a pack. During that two and a half years I was hyper. I didn't want to quit anyway that time. It was on a dare and neither of us would give.

Vaping provides the relaxation to stay off the cigs at a much safer and calm level. I don't really expect to quit vaping unless I just get tired of it. No signs so far.
