I Wish People Wouldn't Be So Quick to Blame Vaping for Everything

We tend to think "well I didn't quit smoking, I just switched to vaping."

NO YOU DIDN'T. You took out 4000 chemicals from your body. Particularly those of you who have been smoking a long time, these things don't go away overnight. Ever seen the breakdown of the days, weeks, months, years, that your body goes through once you quit smoking? Removing smoking from your life starts the process of healing. Weird things can happen. Have you ever quit before? For ANY length of time? Have you noticed the changes your body goes through?

I just think people get so hyped on vaping causing all these problems and FAIL to remember that smoking was a process DESTROYING your lungs, suppressing your immune system. When you take this out of the equation, your body has to go through an equal and LENGTHY process of healing. NO ONE heals from trauma (physical and emotional :D) in a day, a week, a month, or even a year.

GIVE IT SOME TIME.

Please note that I am obviously not referring to what is CLEARLY life-threatening. Aggravations, coughs, headaches, sleep disturbance, these are ALL NORMAL for a period of time - and that period of time is different for EVERY PERSON.

I have only been vaping for two weeks now and yes I have had side effects (all minor). I am one of those kind of people that analyzing everything (too analytical my wife says), but so far I have found that all of my side effects have either been from quitting the analogs or from how I was vaping...

While I have not totally quit the analogs yet - I am a lot further than I would have been without my PV (down to 5 or 6 a day - and I very happy with my progress)...

I hope you're right Funtobefemale, but I need to be cautious on how I proceed. My productivity has greatly reduced due to the side effects no matter the cause, and that's putting my job at risk. No exaggerations, if I'm not close to 100% I can't do my job as it requires alot from me. Is that a poor choice in profession? heh that's a diff. topic, but as things stand, I need to cut back on both and take a more subtle approach in my transition process.

I'm wondering what you're refering to. I haven't been around here for very long, and I don't read nearly all the posts, but most posts I see chalk up the side effects to withdrawal, and not to vaping.

But we really don't know. Mostly it's probably withdrawal. Personally, I'm quite sure that vaping is safe, but we don't know that with 100% certainty.

I recently had two days of horrible chest pains. Probably symptons of smoking withdrawal. Maybe it was just my lungs healing, but it didn't feel like healing at all. It's possible that vaping made it worse, or even caused it, because every time I took a hit, the pain became worse. So it's hard to tell. I didn't get it looked after since it only lasted two days, and even if I had, my doctor probably wouldn't be able to tell me, since vaping is still relatively new. I'm guessing he would have advised me a nicotine patch, and I wasn't going to pay him for giving me that advise :)

But if it would have lasted a couple more days, I would definitely have seeked out medical advise. Better safe than sorry.

We in the vaping community are all still pretty much guinea pigs. Who knows, maybe in ten years our skin becomes transparent and we grow wings - or this could be how the zombie apocalypse starts.

Thank you :)

I am one of those people where if there's a side effect, my body will find it - I'm always in that 1-4% of people who gets a side effect lol. It is extremely annoying lol. But as I wait it out, 99% of the time those side effects go away. :)

Yep... Me too. I agree. Great post

I just don't understand how the KNOWN damage being done to our lungs could be preferential to waiting out side effects. Why not just quit everything so the ultimate health can be attained?

I'm not minimizing anyones experience but the large amount of side effects are BECAUSE of quitting smoking. That's why I say wait it out.

Good Topic.

I too am very analytical by nature (hense I'm a business analyst for a medical supply company). Are more potent stink bombs a side effect? Thought I saw that posted some where.

I do have to say that chest pains plus inhaled anything non oxygen is probably not the best combo regardless of the inhaled substance.

Don't ever ignore chest pains - go to dr immediately. I get chest pains but after seeking medical advice it was determined I have chostochondriasis (sp?) - which is characteristic of my inflammatory health issues. :-/

Hello from Metairie btw, You may want to start a new thread but perhaps if you could discuss your side effects we could help you by telling of our experiences with them and suggest things that may help alleviate the symptoms.

I find my e-cig use to be a great help productivity wise because of the nicotine being a central nervous system stimulant. I have been using it over 6 months and only have positive side effects now. I find it helps with alertness and concentration.

Vaping is a harm reduction, not a harm cessation. Nicotine still does bad things to the body, especially if one has heart issues or diabetes(constricting of the arteries). While it appears to be a great improvement over the harm a cigarette can cause one(significant testing of many factors involved needs to be done for the rock solid proof we need for our wonderful government to finally get on board), don't fool yourself into thinking it is completely without harm. It would seem logical that it is much less bad for us then the multiple thousands of known chemicals in cigarettes, though in many cases if you are buying commercial juice, you really don't know whats in there for sure at this point. Another big benefit of DIY, control over what you are actually vaping.

Since most of us still use nic in our juice, all of this will not apply but here is a link to that smoking cessation chart I was talking about:

http://whyquit.com/whyquit/A_Benefits_Time_Table.html

Note the length in decreasing lung risks is upward of YEARS

I have been vaping for almost 16 months. I still have a side effect from the switch. It took a few months to show up but it is lingering. I can smell smells. A trail ride through a pine forest, it smells like it did when I was a kid. I was able to find many wild grapes this fall by following their smell. I kind of like this side effect. Even my horses smell better.
