Hi
Received my Icon from Liisa at cloud9 on the 1st sept few tips that might help people the look is very pleasing on the eye the tube threads and button threads were free running the atty thread needed running down nothing fitted bought an adapter 510 to 901 did'nt fit 510's did'nt fit, so needed an old 510 and plenty of wd40 to clean thread now perfect.
Charged a AW battery worked ok for a while then kept miss firing after cleaning and lightly sanding contacts worked fine for ten minutes then miss fired again so changed switch contact all ok for ten minutes then miss firing again tried Noalox on contacts and touch wood now working fine
Not convinced stainless is ideal for contacts but it is stronger, overall would say this is a good product not quite up to my GG with 16340 but close by the way using l/r 901's 1.7 ohm's
Hope this helps people with miss fire problems Noalox seems to be the answer

you're honestly the first person I have seen with misfire's on the Icon :) May be due to the difference in batteries between what Lisa and I use. The screw itself is Electro Nickel Plated, and there's a good chance you likely sanded off all the plating :) haha ...

Either way, keep her lubed up (noalox wise) and you should be good to go sadtranz .... enjoy! :)

Must admit it is strange if button pin hits battery then should fire but fact remains it didn't this is the first unit i'v needed Noalox to make a decent contact, been using all day and is now working well, will try some other batteries every body raves about AW but i have noticed no difference to cheap Trustfires
believe Tenergy will fit may give them a go

I am at a loss as to why you were having issues at the beginning Sadtranz, specially since I've had reports that the performance is actually better on the IMR/LiMN batteries due to their high drain capabilities - it's especially noticeable to a lot of people when using LR atties.
Very glad that it's all going ok for you now and that you're loving it. :)

Hi Lisa
Yes very happy with unit now, battery performing very well think poor performance was due to not getting a decent contact for whatever reason

hi all,

ive been using my icon everyday, all day ever since i got it but i too am now having major probs with it misfiring. its been happening for the past week now and ive tried all the usual remedies for this type of problem......ie, cleaned it thoroughly, stripped it down, cleaned again, added noalox, checked contacts etc etc but nothing is improving things :(

to get it to fire im having to double tap it, making sure the second push is harder than the 1st..........only way i can get it to vape. whats strange though is that the harder i push the switch, the more power gets to the atty. if i press the switch slightly firmly then you can just about hear the atomiser starting to sizzle, but if i start to press harder then the sizzle gets louder.......its like it has a push sensitive variable voltage built in!

when i reviewed the icon, i actually made a point of saying how easy and effortless it was to activate.........but now sadly, its quite the opposite.

ive pretty much exhausted all possibilities so if anyone has any other things worth trying then please let me know! :D

cheers

scott

sorry for double post:-

just thought id do one more thing to see if i could solve the issue and am pleased to say it would appear ive had some success :D

1st i tried replacing the spring for the one in the spares bag - no difference

then i tried replacing the contact screw for the one in the spares bag - started vaping like new again!

just to check, i replaced the original screw and the problem returned. put new screw in and problem vanished.........i repeated this 10 times and results were the same every time.

so (even though the original contact screw looks spotless and shiny) i gave it another good clean with paper towel and tried again, but the problem persisted. so i then cleaned it with WD40 but still the problem persisted. so as a last resort i lightly sanded it down with fine emery cloth and tried again..........problem vanished and its now firing 1st time, every time :D

so the conclusion must be that the contact screw is getting some sort of oxidation that is causing the issue........though its slightly strange how it remains looking completely clean and no dirt appears on the paper towel even when cleaning it with WD40!??

is it possible that the contact of the AW battery is causing some sort of reaction to the metal contact screw? its the only thing i can think off!

cheers

scott

Hi Scott
Was just going to post about the bolt i had same problem but from new, changed bolt coated all contacts with noalox and been ok since 2nd sept continual use, as i said in my original post not convinced stainless is ideal for contacts, this is the first unit i'v needed to use noalox for a decent contact, but having said that i just love the icon not used any thing else since i'v had it

I replaced my V3 and Icon contacts with brass 1/2 inch 8/32 screws. I just got my icon last week, but I've never had a misfire on my V3 since May??? whenever they were first released, and I use it all day every day.

I believe that this was an issue with the contact screw from the beginning which is why it's now being nickel plated. This should have resolved these types of issues but perhaps it hasn't entirely solved it. I'll ensure that this information is added to the sales page on the site.

Glad you've been using it all the time though, Scott, me too. :)

We have tried nickel plating aluminum, brass, and stainless. Noticed no "noticeable" difference between the 3 materials once electro nickel plated. Thus, the reason we advise to break down the V3/ICON once a week (I normally break mine down on a Sunday afternoon) Wipe the contact screw, apply a bit of Noalox, and you're set. Maintenance is key for worry free use :)

It is odd that there tends to be zero oxidation or pitting in the nickel plating, whereas, with your standard screw, you will notice one or both.

Try working the atty deeper into the adapter-- enuff to shove the center contact post farther into the battery chamber-- it'll get rid of the pressure/contact issue I believe you are experiencing.
You REALLY need to crank it-- just to the point where you think you'll break something, then back it off--snug it up a bit & THEN hit it.

Sorry 7th, I've got to advise VERY strongly against trying to work atties deeper into the adapter. This will damage atomisers and can cause dangerous short circuits.

This photo shows two damaged atomisers at the top and a brand new one underneath. If you "crank" an atomiser down on this or indeed any mod, your atomisers will only be suitable for the bin.
