I am working on a tube-style mod, and have been tossing around ideas for a side fire button, but I am now shifting gears towards a bottom-fire. Does anyone have ideas of how I could design this without having any threads on the bottom? Going for a steampunk look, so pieces of the outside are ok. Please help with ideas!

I trust you've seen my mods, where the concept was born from a lack of being able to make threads and a lack of decent box son the local market. Two end plates with threaded rod to cinch things down......

eBay is good too, look for specific sizes, prices are better too.

I was trying to get the most length for the thinnest size. M3 or 4#40 is about the thinnest threaded rod I could find, over this fits 4mm OD 3mm ID tubing. You could try to get M2, but I found it too hard to source. If you do find some that actually is in stock, please let me know.
Two tubes with threading is enough for a stable mod, you could do 4 tubes and do something like this gorgeous USB drive:

Sorry, shinyitis got my brain diverted from the topic at hand. lol I need to find somewhere locally that sells this stuff so I can test the fits right there, then order online in larger amounts. I am assuming the big box stores don't have it, right?
Not really. Smaller hardware stores tend to have k&s engineering stands, the big box stores tend to focus on concrete home projects, not hobby stuff.
