If you could only one tip to a newbie what would it be?

Six months for me. If you want a smoke - vape. It will take longer to overcome the feeling (5 min) but then it will be gone - longer gone each time. Stand in front of the mirror and determine if your skin is not a lot better (even while vaping as you do it). Walk up a flight of stairs after 1 week. Listen to your non-cough. vape at your computer and watch the cloud gather at the table lamp. Notice that you don't stink. Stop lurking everywhere to have a smoke with dubious characters. Give up the walk-of-shame at the local cigarette dispensary. Stand tall and tell the world―I vape so buzz off and leave me alone!

Start at the bottom, sounds backwards but its the correct way to take the journey imho. Ego style or regulated, as you learn the hobby you can move along at your pace and acquire the knowledge needed to be safe and invest. In appropriate items. Oh, and use google and ecf before doing things as you can bet someone has done it before and lived to tell

Simple! Never buy the cheapest you can find and never ever buy from any vendor that's not reputable and well reviewed on ECF. Vaping is still a relatively fledgling industry and with thousands of vendors and suppliers popping up daily ($200 million in 2013!) there are many crappy ones out there with pretty websites that'll charge your credit card and either send you junk or leave things out of your order that they charged you for and never reply to an email or phone call (I'm looking at YOU eLiquid-USA)!! Trying to save $5 on a purchase or shipping and choosing an unknown can easily cost you 10 times that much if not more! Ask me how I know!

I totally agree with those talking about the juice.

Find a local vape shop with a juice bar. I think my local vape shop has 60+ flavors. I did NOT like the majority of them. If all I had to start with was some of those flavors, I probably would not have been able to stick to vaping. I stood there a loooong time sampling juice before finding two that I really liked. Which leads to another bit of advice. Buy more than one flavor. It will help not only with boredom, but also with vapors tongue.

Read and research, especially on ECF. But, then do something about it.

Even if your first kit isn't ideal. At some point, you simply have to jump. As long as you've done some research and make sure you don't buy cheap knock-offs, it'll be ok. The only way to fine tune what is going to work for you is to actually try something and get some experience.

Sign up for vendors email newsletters, from many vendors. Wait for holiday sales and stock up enough mods, toppers and eliquid to get you to the next holiday....

While you're waiting for a good sale, read up on whatever you plan to buy, after a few reviews and
"help!! my ___ won't work" threads, you may reevaluate your purchase.

Never feel like there's a dumb question. Everyone has to learn and like most things in life it's the hard way through trial and error. There are so many knowledgeable people in the vaping community willing to help it's amazing. If you have a good local shop learn who's kind and knowledgeable and learn their name. Never let something that's not working quite right discourage you. ASK....Relax, take the pressure off and enjoy. Giving up cigarettes is one of the kindest things you can do for yourself and those who love you.
