US Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, & Pensions: Hearings - Hearing

Here is the link to the: "Full Committee Hearing - Progress and Challenges: The State of tobacco Use and Regulation in the U.S." where the proposed FDA regulations are discussed. Except for Sen. Burr, the sitting Senators present as extreme ANTZ! It is noted that the majority of the committee is not present, including the Senator from my state, and the majority consensous can not be guaged. However, if the attending consensous, vice Sen. Burr, is any indication, we can expect to lose our right to vape, decide how to vape, or what flavor to vape. Please view! [h=2][/h]

I tend to get more of the idea that Sen. Alexander was middle of the road, and falling slightly towards the anti-nicotine based products side. If science is persuasive in positive results supporting the use of e-cigarettes, Sen. Alexander appears reasonable, at least, and could possibly consider the benifits of their use. However, Sen. Harkin made it painfully obvious that he is against ALL nicotine based products that are not approved, by the FDA, specifically for smoking cesation. That being said, I wander if he relizes that Nicoret Gum comes in many different flavors that could be considered appealing to minors? He is either "grand standing" or he really believes that adults do not have taste buds! Either way, he appears pandering for votes and grasping at straws due to the lack of negitive effects the use of e-cigarettes poses.

"It's for the kids! We have to protect them!" seems to be the mantra for anti-tobacco groups. Parents have the responsibility to direct their children in the right direction. Chances are that they will experiment. Enforcing underage laws is the business of government. If we took away everything that kids might obtain wrongly and use to their detriment the store shelves would be bare in spots.

When I was a teenager there were stores that would sell me a pack of Marlboros anytime.
