MAIN POOL:
Our pool is easy. You only need to do two things to play. First – Simply pick a winner for every game played that particular week. Final score is all that matters. POINT SPREADS ARE NOT USED. Second – Place a number alongside each game (usually 1
through 16 as most weeks there are 16 games). Results: Your score for the week will be calculated by adding up the individual numbers for every game you win. A loss is not counted. The individual with the most points each week wins.
NOTE: Most players assign the highest values (numbers) to the games they feel the most confident about. This is where point spreads may help you – i.e. without casting any aspersions and as an example only, let’s say the NY Giants are playing the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Giants are favored by 17 points. Here you may feel confident with the Giants and assign this game a high value. Conversely, there may be a game where the point spread is 1 or a push – here you may not feel as confident and hence you may assign a lower value.
Remember the winner is the player with the highest point total regardless of how many wins they have. See tie breaker rules below.
1. Payment - total cost for the entire season is $56.00. This equates to $3 per week for 17 regular season weeks plus a $5 per person fee for the use of the internet service. The actual cost of the internet service is dependent upon the actual number of people who participates. Any remaining money from the internet service should allow me to
buy bagels once or twice during the season. Please make all checks payable to: {XXX} ( I promise to deposit all checks into the football pool account)
2. Access Instructions - If you played last year, your login data is still current. If you are new to the pool, go to
Office Football Pool Hosting :: Pro and College Football Pools :: College Bowl Pools :: Pickem :: Key Pick Pools :: Confidence Pools :: Survivor Pools :: Office Pool Hosting :: Golf Pools :: Baseball Pools :: Nascar Pools :: Fantasy Nascar :: Soccer . Click on the "Home" tab and select the "Register - Join OFP" option. Once you have successfully registered, you must log into our pool. To do this, click on the "Pools" tab and select the "Join a Pool" option. Our Pool ID is 7811 and our password is Norwalk. To make your weekly picks, you just have to log into the site and go to the "Picks" tab. It's really pretty easy to use.
3. Pot Payout - The weekly winner still will receive $2 for each person who played that week. The remaining one dollar will go towards the season pot to be split as follows:
1st Prize - 60%
2nd Prize - 25%
3rd Prize - 10%
Ordinary Joe/Jane Prize - 5% (The winner of this prize will be that person whose final performance is closest to the average of all the participants for the year). Please note: Anybody that misses 2 or more games will not be counted when computing the average.
4. Deadlines - since all this will be done on the internet, there should be no reason why anyone should miss a deadline. The deadline for submitting your picks to: SUNDAY - 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time. You will receive a reminder e-mail 24 hours before the deadline if you have not yet completed your picks.
Please note that the Week 1 game is on Thursday night and there are several Thursday night games. You must have ALL of your picks in by the designated website deadline which is right before the game begins. But after the game ends you can make changes to your picks up until Sunday, at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
5. Auto / Default Picks: If you forget to make your picks or miss the pick deadline you can choose the Auto / Default Picks option and your default picks will be entered for you automatically. Last year this was set to none and quite a few people missed deadlines. This year I set the default to random. If you would like to change this, go to "Picks" tab and click on auto picks and then set your default picks:
a) Default Picks, choose: none, all home teams, all road teams, all favorites, all dogs or random.
b) Default Tiebreaker Total: you can enter any number or if you leave blank, then the number will be random.
SUICIDE / SURVIVOR POOL:
For those hardcore football fans - we are running a suicide pool again this year. It is $20 up front and you pick the winner of only one game each week. If your chosen team loses, you are out. The last person standing wins the entire pot. The catch - once you have picked a team, you can't use that team again. If you are interested, follow the same access instructions above with the exception that the Pool ID is 7814. The password is Norwalk. You can enter this pool as many times as you would like. Note: If all of the remaining players lose in the same week, the pot is to be split among those players who were still alive at the beginning of the weekend.
Click here to Log In and Rejoin My Pool.
You can write one check to {XXX} if you are playing in both the pools ($76.00). Payment is due no later than September 12th. If you have to mail me a check, my mailing address is at the bottom of this email.
Additional Information:
Manager Picks - The pool manager can enter or change picks for anyone at anytime. A flag in the poolwide picks and standings pages plainly identifies picks that are entered by the manager. This way, everything remains above board. The only time this is used is if someone is unable to get into the site due to travelling and sends me an email, telephones or faxes the information to me. As long as my email, voice mail or fax confirmation shows that you are sending in your picks before the deadline, I have no problem with entering your picks in a crisis.
Tiebreakers (Standings based on Points)
Tiebreaker #1: MNF (Monday Night Football) - The cumulative absolute difference in your total point predictions and the actual total points scored in the Monday night football game. If there is no Monday game, the last game of the week is designated as the tiebreaker game.
Tiebreaker #2: Win % (Win Percentage) - Wins / (Win + Losses). During a week when there is an early game, some people are likely to miss entering their picks in time for the early game. In this case, they might be 10-5 when someone else is 10-6. If you use this tiebreaker, 10-5 beats 10-6.
PASSWORDS: Everyone who was a member of our pool last year should still be a member now. All they need to do is log in to the website with the same username and password as before. If they have forgotten their password, they can retrieve it by email by going to HELP>Retrieve Password. If their email address changed too, then they can contact me directly for help.
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO OTHERS THAT YOU MAY WANT TO INVITE!!!!
