Im curious, are there many reg ohm builders out there or am I the only "dinosaur"?

I'm currently at .6-.7ohm on 25 gauge.
This enables me to take small puffs like I used to on a regular smoke and still fill something.
For me its always been about recreating the analogue experience even 2 years after.
I used to draw a small one just to ignite, and then a good one right on top of it. I just can't do the 12s lung intake to start and feel something. I guess it all boils down to the kind of smoker you were...maybe.

I build my bottom fed RBAs in the 1.6 - 2 ohm range. This type rba allows for a very tight, micro coil. This coil was wrapped using a needle tip juice bottle cap as a mold.

The clouds, TH and flavor generated by one of these micro coils and rolled cotton wick is off the chain. :)

I see so many posts about real low resistance vaping , sub ohms etc. I know what they about, more vapour etc. It seems to be the trend or maybe its a show of how powerful your set up is? I dont know about everyone, but I enjoy my set up so much.

I make my resistance at 2.2-2.4 on my Odysseus V2 on a Kicked Saber Touch set at 7.5 with a voltage output of 4.3. It seems great to me. Warm, but on the cool side. Big clouds, great taste etc.

Ive tried lower ohms and the heat changes my tobaccos way too much and I dont like the TH.

Am I in the minority? How many "cool' vapors out there?

I love a cool vape.

I also love big flavor, big vapor... And no throat hit.

0.8 ohms, using doubled 3mm silica and 28awg kantgal in my I GO L achieves all four....

I was never happy with my vape on SR or LR... Usually because in order to get decent vapor, it had to be hot and tasted like crap.

What wire gauge are you using super_X_drifter? Also, I thought the coils shouldn't be touching?

Hey bro, I run 30ga Kanthal A1. That thing about wires not touching must be a myth created by those who either don't want you to get a great vape or just don't know any better. It may not also be so good for mediums that work in tank style setups. Dunno, never used tank style RBAs.

Check out a thread in the Suppliers/ REOsmods forum called Micro Coil for the RBA on your REO. There are some other great threads and a step by step tutorial with photos in the the REOsmods forum.

I personally have never gotten into watching video tutorials, cause they just don't provide enough detail.

Here's another application:

super_X_drifter,

Your coils are fantastic, mine look like crud.

Do you oxidize the coil wire before you coil it? I mean the coils are so neat and close, I would like to be able to do that but I'm afraid of blowing up my mod. I do have a VOM meter to check the ohms with.

Thanks.

Yes, I torch them with a bic lighter until they glow red and run them under the faucet to cool em. I repeat the torch / cool process two more times (holding the wire with a pair of hemostats).

It is very easy to wrap one if you use a mold with a good gripping surface and a "stop" to wrap against. For these micro coils I used a needle top juice bottle cap. When I feel like wrapping a slightly larger bore coil I use a 14ga luer lock blunt tip needle.

Once the coil is on the mod, I insert a rolled cotton wick. The vape is Beast to say the least.

Ah, got it, torch the wire 3 times then coil like you said. I've got both type needles. Then thread through the cotton.

Gotta try it tonight when I get back.

Thank you very much for the help. Shooting for 1.5-1.9 Ohms on Ohmeter.

Yes :)

With that needle tip bottle cap, I'm going to estimate that you will need about 13 - 15 wraps to hit that target. Keep in mind that these micros produce a very warm vape, most users, including myself, that typically prefer about 1 - 1.7 ohms find ourselves liking around 2 ohms with micros. With the larger (14 ga) needle, about 8 wraps.

There is an awesome thread dedicated to micro coils in the REOsmods forum (under suppliers). :)

There is also a great step by step tutorial there on building, mounting and wicking a coil with the 14 ga needle. Enjoy brother :)

I think on silica wick, it's personal preference. Rebuilding an ody with high or low resistance doesn't matter too much if you've got a regulated device. On a gennie though, I always found wrapping a standard ohm coil required higher awg kanthal (30 or 32) and I always had problems with coils popping and hotspots. I now use 28 awg and haven't looked back. Easier build, more durability, and better experience with my genesis. This is why I've ditched my regulated devices and only run LR on mechs.
