I've got a Troll rda, my first attempts at dual coil did not go so well, so I've been using it for about two weeks now with a single coil. After some fiddling, the flavor was good.

I was determined to conquer the dual coil, so I gave it a shot again tonight and had success! Two beautiful coils that heated evenly and everything was wonderful.

Except, everything is tasteless. Not even a hint of flavor. I've closed down airflow, I've opened airflow. I've upped the wattage. What else can I try?

You may need to "up the wattage" a bit more. Going from a single coil to dual parallel coils with no other adjustments makes for a very "cold" vape.

I'll provide examples... and this is reverent, in varying degrees, regardless of your actual resistance and wattage.

This is a 1.0Ω single coil build. See the heat flux value (vaping "temperature") in the right side box, titled "results"? It's a toasty warm 266 mW/mm² at 15 watts.

Now... the same resistance and wattage, but with two coils in parallel. The heat flux has dropped to a stone cold 67 mW/mm².

You need to either increase your wattage considerably more than you think one might... if you have the power available, or... use a lower net resistance than what you used with a single coil, or... use thinner wire, or... a combination of these options.

I upped the wattage from my usual 16-18 up to 25. Should I go higher? It is a .7 build. I can go up to 50 with my mod.

Use a coil building calculator online like steam-engine. Are you vaping on a mech mod or regulated? What are your batteries?

I used steam engine to build, it is a .7 build. 7 wraps each of 28g.

Vaping on a regulated mod with a single 18650. Can go up to 50W. Went up to 25W before I got frustrated.

Just ran your build through steam-engine... This is a build for around 30w.

If you want to go to 50w, make sure your battery can drain up to 30 amps, and a 28awg wire won't go that low; you'll need 24 or 22 awg.

I also had a Troll RDA for a while. My best build was:

REGULAR COIL BUILD (NOT MICROCOIL)
24 guage
dual-coil
0.3 ohm
1/8 diameter (3.175mm)
6 wraps
65-70 watts

Used VTC5 batteries.

Dual coils just need it. Yes, I did duals for awhile, but then went back to singles. Just not a significant benefit for me over the cons.

Yeah, I've lost noticeable battery power vaping just the last little bit on this. I'm lazy, and I'm used to a battery lasting almost two days (I'm a "light" vaper). I may need to rethink things.

The flavor is good now though! I don't know. Might even be worth purchasing a new set of batteries!

Just get a set of VTC5's and you'll be set for anything.

Okay, you've given me a new question to ask. What constitutes a microcoil, exactly? My typical coils have been anywhere from 2.0mm to 3.0mm. I don't really want to mess with wicking anything smaller than that!

This is a regular coil:

This is a micro coil:

The spacing between each coil is what makes the micro-coil very efficient in transferring energy.
The 2mm and 3mm you mention are the diameter of the coil. 3mm will allow for more cotton, thus more juice to be stored in the wick if you're vaping super low ohm.

If your build is drawing less than 20amps, get the HE4 batteries, if you're drawing more than 20amps, get the VTC5's

Micro, macro, and nano refers to the size of the coil diameter. Contact and spaced refers to if the coils are touching.

Yes, you're absolutely right. The term "micro coil" has been so misused and lost its meaning. If you watch all the reviewers on YouTube regularly, you'll start to think micro-coil means spacing.

But actually it might as well since more people are referring to it that way.

As stated above, micro, macro, and nano all refer to the diameter/size of the coil. Why someone would posit otherwise is beyond me. spaced v. unspaced = Coil spacing.

Anyhow, at .7 I usually use my mod at around 20W. Are you sure it's not the fact that the wick is new? It usually takes a few minutes of vaping for the flavor to kick in.
