I have to say, #2 really is behaving himself. I fear me #3 is going in the parts box. Unless I can find a new o-ring.
My three kids (MT, TFV4,& Griif) are usually well behaved because they know if they're not they'll be taken out of rotation. Right now they're all scared of Boreas! LOL!:headbang:

OK, here we go. I wanted to try the vertical coils in the MT. I built a tool for a mandrel, using some 1/16" stainless rod I normally use to fill 2mm posts below the wire holes. I cut 3 pieces about 1.5" long and taped them together at one end, arranged side by side. I guestimated the area of the of the internal hole by multiplying the width and height of the mandrel tool; dividing by 3.14 and taking the square root to get the radius of a round mandrel of the same area. I selected the 26/32 Kanthal Clapton wire and put my guesstimated mandrel size in Steam Engine, and came up with a 4/5 wrap for .25Ω. Something was out in my figures as the assembly eventually came up at .37-.4ish, depending on when I measured it.

I split the coil wick, using half behind the coil and between it and the air tower. It's a bit hard to see:

Didn't leak a drop, not even on first fill. She's vaping strong at 37.5W. Almost through rayon break-in. The air flow seems freer that it was, and I am getting good flavor and vapor.

My vertical coil was 2.5mm by 5.5 mm. I checked the wrench with a caliper. at this size the air holes have no restriction. I wicked my mt the same way you did half the wick in back and half in front. my coil build is at a .33 ohm 24/32 clapton. I have vaped this build all the way to 200 watts. 1/2 to 1 sec. with no dry hit it is a monster

They should be

I suspect the afc o ring is why Satan was acting up.

Also I'm about to place a fast tech order. Anyone have suggestions for stuff to get? Maybe an RDA? was thinking about a troll or Mutation x v4... Or I may just wait for the Mutation x v4s. But def need to get the black glass for my Griffin and possibly the new chimney piece with the top airflow. Idk I'm still on the fence with that one. 26 & 28g ss316? Throw your suggestions my way!!!! I think the Mutation V4 is a great piece of gear; super flexible. My current favorite dripper, tho, is the Wotofo Sapor. It's not a cloud comp winner, but for large to serious cloud while holding flavor high, she's tough to beat. Leak resistant too, unlike bottom air drippers. That Mutation, though, can be built flavor or cloud, and she's a beast in the latter format. I have one coiled .12 with Aliens. Run that up to 120-140 watts and... I can't use it, lol. Every time I try I vulcanize my lips, sear my throat lining and spend 10 minutes coughing my lungs through my nose. But for anybody (wo)man enough to use it, it will definitely out-cloud a Sapor. You just need bottom air for steam. Still, the Sapor is the way I'd go. I hate it when bottom air drippers puke juice on my mod.

Nice job on those verticals. I'm curious if it's going to weep at the corners of the air towers from the round coils. My #2 does not, but his coils are rectangular. Let us know.

I don't have any, but I hear that Fasttech stainless Clapton wire is springy. Might want to torch the bork out of it before and probably after winding. I have found 26 and 28ga stainless useful. I usually build twists or parallels.

Hey MMW, I followed your pictorial how-to a few pages back and my Mutank is now working beautifully! The only difference between your method and what I did, is that I'm using rayon. Otherwise, it's exactly the same.

Two things, I think, got me past the last problems I was having with partial flooding:
#1--I made new, longer coils so that there is no wick above the air holes below the coils. 26 gauge kanthal, 2.4mm internal diameter, don't recall how many wraps. But each coil is about 1ohm, so the total resistance is about .5ohms.

#2:--I left a teeny-tiny bit of wick sticking out of the "windows." I trimmed fairly close but not flush, and then gently poked the rayon into the windows but left some "proud" and just sorta smoothed that out so that the wick wouldn't be touching the inside of the glass.

Next time I do a re-wick I'll take photos. I need to do the same for my new Aromamizer. Man, ANOTHER great tank! And SUPER easy to wick, although one CAN screw that up as well. THERE is where the "less is more" rule applies.....

Todd, Dominic, and all who chimed in yesterday with my MT issues, I'm finally on the right track. Absolutely no flooding, but still wants to get dry above 40W. I think it's just a matter of a little to much wick in the channels, even though I do get a few bubbles when I hit it. I'm finally feeling like this tank isn't a lost cause. Thanks so much for all the assistance!
Bill, I built my Griffin just like you said and it's much better! Again, I think I have a little too much rayon sticking into that juice channel. I've had it up to 50W, but no more, and the flavor and vapor is rather light, so I know I'm not getting quite enough juice. I'll play a little more with that one, too!
It's nice you all are so helpful with nice pics and everything! @zipflint , I'm glad you got yours going well!
