I might manage some fused. I've got some 28ga and 26ga SS316, and it's supposed to be available down to 38ga. I don't know where to get stainless ribbon wire, though. The only stainless ribbon I saw available in the country, in quantities less than 500lbs, is 304 grade which is not my favorite, and is .25 x 1.6mm in the smallest size available, not to mention $19.85 per foot(!) plus shipping. Even if I could make it, you couldn't get it in an atty :)

You know I may be wrong but it seems the vids on youtube showed a TRUE alien being more of a fused with a different wavy wrap!

Hhhmmm... Interesting. I wonder how they got that wave in the wrap wire, and made it stay there... Ah, OK, I think I see. That looks like a stapled alien wrap to me. They wrapped the two outer wires with a parallel Clapton wrap and unscrewed one of them, just like building a staple, then mismatched the outers to put the curve in it. And I think the wrap "wire" is a twist.

I regret to inform you I am not likely to spend the time to make that :)

Its not one I've had the time or patience to try yet but the vid Bill posted is a good one to watch for it. You wrap a regular clapton then pull the wrap off the core. Then stretch the wrap and then re-clapton with it going the opposite direction of the original if I remember right.

I just bought 15' each of 26/30 Clapton 316L ss, and fused Clapton 28*2/30 316L. Figured I'd give the Clapton scene a try. I have some 26/36k that I bought earlier but haven't really cared for it. Too slow on the ramp up and cool down for me. Hopefully the ss will be more responsive.

I don't think you will find that to be the case. It works fine in TC mode, but clapton wire is a high-watt thing. It's too massive to be otherwise. Maybe I am wrong, so good luck. But I won't bet on it.

This is why I don't use it. I have used kanthal claptons a few times, but I find it rather annoying for what the end result is.

I will say that I've always wanted to try a fused 28-30 core with a 34 wrap with everything being nichrome.

However, since finding SS, I haven't bothered to seek it out.

Clapton takes a while to heat up unless you put some wattage to it. Idk what wattage you Vape at but it can be a great or horrible experience.

I've never used clapton wire under 3mm inner diameter, it might heat up a lot quicker the smaller the ID is.

7 wrap 3mm 24g core 28g outer SS Clapton's in my troll RDA at 125-160 Watts is awesome.

6 wrap 3mm 24g core 28g outer SS Clapton's in my Griffin at 80-90 Watts is great.

Well, I'll give it a try in both a tank and an RDA, see what happens. I have about 125' of 316L 26g and 250' of 26g 304. The problem I have with those is trying to eliminate hot legs. If I can't get what I'm looking for, I'll just stick with my kanthal and Ni80.

For me, having to use so much heating to get to a spot I want, it's a law of diminishing returns. Once again, that's why I love vaping though. You guys make some fantastic beautiful coils and i love them. I feel like a tootler in here with my single strands! Bahahaha!

I love seeing pics of builds from everyone in here. It's like pR0n!

I use Kanthal and Stainless both, and I use Clapton in high-watt applications. I find, though, I run even Stainless in wattage mode. Maybe I'm Old Skool. Maybe I came up in a time where you had to build the damn coil to do what you want on a mech and didn't have the option to just move the watts up and down at whim. But whatever, TC really doesn't seem worth it to me.

I don't do tc either. Doesn't seem to do it for me. Everything is in power mode. I'm mostly a single strand guy myself. My favorite thus far has been 26g k duals at around .25-.3 ohms. I just see so much on Claptons and ss wire I had to give it a try, but so far, my kanthal does it fine for me with simple builds. I do like twisted triple 30 and 29. Anything bigger, it just takes too long to heat. I'll probably reserve my Clapton for my hi watt regulated devices.

Same here.I got used to building my coils around .3 ohms on my mechs,so even though i use primarily vw mods now,i still build them at a .3,even though everyone says you can build much higher and still get the same result.I'm in the if aint broke don't fix it club haha.Same with the temp control, when it first came out,i rushed to get a mod that had it,i wasn't really impressed with it,tried it a few more times, decided i didn't care for it and moved on.

That's what my standard go to build has been for a couple years now,i tend to stay right at .3 though.I used to use 28g all the time, then decided to try 26g and have never touched the 28 again after that. Not sure what the big difference is between the 2,but i found 26 to be quite a bit better.

26 has been my go to size for quite some time. I have everything from 24 to 30, some Ni200, but a small amount to try tc, Ni80 in 26g, the ss I mentioned and the Clapton stuff. I'll probably end up going back to my 26. 24 is like trying to heat up a car coil spring to me. I even have some flat kanthal which I used to make some tiger wire once. Didn't care much for that either. Simplicity, I guess for me, is the name of the game.
