Madvapes has the gripper for 20 bucks. Add a couple of 16340s or get a couple of flat top 18350s somewhere else (about 5 bucks each or so unless you opt for IMR batts for around 8 bucks each) and a 5 dollar charger. -- Total price with the expensive batteries and a charger = ~$41 plus shipping.

You have to use XL length cartos in the gripper. --> Here is a video review that might explain the mod better than I can typing.

Any well constructed "mod" that uses an 18650 should give acceptable battery life. Buying better quality and higher maH batteries is the key to increased battery life. Not all batteries are created equal and quite often it has been shown that the cheaper batteries are counterfeits of low quality ( re wrapped rejected cells). I would recommend buying your batteries from a respected vendor (not ali baba) though even then there is a chance that counterfeit batteries have entered the supply chain -- just less of a chance.

The most important thing is to properly care for your batteries. Buy a multimeter (they're cheap and handy to have around the house for a number of non vaping reasons as well) and read up a little on batteries. A good resource is Basic to Advanced Battery Information from Battery University it can get a little technical at times but it is one of the best resources on the internet for learning about batteries.

If someone would be kind enough to post links to the proper (good quality) batteries and charger for this mod It would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

901/808d 3.7V Box Mod with Black Horn Switch

Any protected 14500 LiIon or unprotected 14500 IMR. I recommend the AW 14500 IMR. As far as chargers, the Pila charger is the best out there, but rather costly at $45. Aside from that, I've had good luck with the Ultrafire WF-139. Super T carries all of these items at good prices.

I've been doing a lot of research on getting a new mod as well. I started out with a Roughstack, which I like, it vapes really, really well on 18650s at 3.7v and it works with stacked 123cr's, but I am not fond of stacking batteries especially if they are not protected and the unit is not regulated. I also hate the button on the roughstack. It has one of those hard little buttons and after vaping on it for a while it hurts my thumb and leaves a dent.

After looking at all the mods, I decided for the next one I wanted a variable voltage, because that offers the most options in what can be used as far as cartos and attys, LRs and HRs. I like having choices. There are some pretty good inexpensive box mods out there, ranging from $29 to $59, some come with bottle dispensing and others don't. But I didn't want to go with a box mod. They are just bulky in the hand. So I was looking at the Provari and Lava Tube. I like the look of the Provari, but can't really justify spending over $100 on a mod right now. So the Lava Tube was my next choice. The Volcano site (the home of the brand name of Lava Tube) has them for $99 for a kit, but the kit only includes a Trustfire charger...which I don't like because it doesn't regulate the charge of the batteries and has the possibility of over charging and blowing up. (I'm quite concerned with that happening.) So getting the kit from them then buying a xtar or pilla charger would be an extra expense.

After searching for several days, I realized all the vendors that carry "lava tube" style mods are all carrying the exact same thing gotten from companies in China. Now going through the companies in China and only ordering one or two of these units costs $35 a mod plus $29 shipping, and it does come with a full kit, but the batteries and charger are crap so it really doesn't matter. But it's going to end up being about $65 from china, but then you also have Customs to worry about.

I found a site that I just posted a question to the board about as a vendor, but it's Elite Vaporworks. They have a good set for $74 on sale right now, xtar charger and AW batteries. It's a really good deal, and I am hoping they are an in country company, but I have emailed them to ask, as the don't list their place of business on the site. I haven't ordered it yet, but I'm pretty settled that I probably will order from them unless others have had a bad experience with them.

So box mods will be the cheapest way to go, but not by a whole lot. Roughstacks are cheap but the button sucks. Smoketech Bolt style mods are also under $45 each, but they are only 3.7v. All the other mods are pretty much over $50, many closer to $100...and they all basically do the same thing 3.7v, and the just look different.

To get the best deal it's really a matter of looking through a gazillion sites and figuring out who has the best deals going on when you go to order. Sometimes there are sales, some sites have coupon codes, and others are just priced less all the time, so it's just a matter of hours and hours of research and googling and comparing prices and products and features.

Thanks, one more question :
Is this battery as good, or better/worse than the one you recommended?

AW 14500 750mAh 3.7 volt protected

Just wondering because it is 750mAh compared to 600mAh.

With those two particular batteries, you can't go wrong either way. From my testing with a 1.8 ohm resistor, the IMR performs a little bit better at the top of the drain curve, and the ICR performs a little better at the bottom of the drain curve. The IMR is roughly a couple of tenths of a volt higher under load through the first 30% of discharge. 30% discharge is where the two drain curves meet, though and the ICR holds up better from that point on plus lasts a little longer.

I started vaping to get off cigarettes. and it worked. But I enjoy vaping and I use KR808's. The only down side is having to charge them all the time (not a big problem but kind of a pain). I was wondering, is there an inexpensive mod that has a long battery life?

If you like the KR808's, then check out Smokeless Image. They just came out with some big batteries. I purchased a 1300mAh battery and some of their new clearomizers and now I can vape all day without changing batteries. :)
