Do any of you use an Orchid? I bought a V4 to try since it seems to be so closely linked to the Kayfuns that I love. I finally tried it yesterday. Build a dual coil to 1.2ohm. It generates a lot of vape but it is like sucking air. The airflow is way too airy for me. I always looked for a draw similar to a smoke and that is what I get from the kayfun. Always remove the airflow screws to maximize airflow and prefer the dual air hole models. Thought that since I did that, the Orchid would not be too bad but no way could I use this. Another one in the parts bucket!!

I would of bought the Orchid 4 off you , what you want is the Orchid 5 , much less airy draw.

Sitting down, facing forward.
Beautiful device, but what else would you expect from the people who brought us the Jaguar? I'm kind of spoiled by the regulated electronics though.
Gives me some ideas... Maybe stretched, for an 18650... dna 40-50W board... If I can get it right, would anybody buy one???

I'm a big fan of the VTR and low tank mods. I'm working on building my own version with a DNA40 chip, but would like to find a "professionally" machined one. The Gizmo with an 18500 just seems a little too limited to me, but I'm also a fan of regulated stuff.

3 hours later it's now red. Checked voltage when I noticed it and it was at 3.61, but it's dropping much more rapidly. Turned yellow at 3.75.

10-15 minutes later it's reading 3.50 and I'm only vaping at 11W on a .7 ohm build(~2.6V). Dropping rapidly, 3.47 a minute later...

Should I RMA this thing or does this sound normal?

Edit: and within 10 minutes of me posting this it died lol.

If it's normal for a device to die so quickly after it hits "half" power then I'll just have to make note that yellow means I need to be near a charger within a few hours, I just don't want to keep a faulty device if there's something wrong and I can have it replaced. My other MVP seemed to last longer on half charge, which is why I'm concerned.

I'm thinking that that's pretty typical, Shred. Lithium's tend to drop from full (4.2) fairly quickly to around 3.9 - 3.8, stay there a long time, then fall off quickly.

Innokin calling the yellow light "half" is, imo, the error, but since they stay at 3.8 a long time, 3.7 does make a "logical" value to let you know it's soon going to be time to charge. Once below 3.6 it's going to fall off quickly, and should shut off at 3.2(ish) to protect the battery from over discharge.

Well that's sort of good to know, good in the sense that there's nothing wrong. Would be nice if the yellow light was more like half as far as time goes and not just halfway between 4.2V(full) and 3.3 when it shuts off. This is only my second APV, my first was an MVP 20W, so I don't have much to go off of.

With the way I've been vaping lately, I can't really complain too much about getting almost 28 hours off a single charge as long as what's happening is what's supposed to be happening.

Thanks for clearing all of this up.

I checked into the V6. Might be good with the adjustable airflow. I am going to order a base and 2-piece chimney from FT. The V4 I have is from FT as well. You can buy them for $10 or so. That is what I thought was good about Orchids. Very cheap if you want to buy clones.

I meant that I take the screws out of all the kayfuns. There are no air adjustments on the Origin.

If you take the AFC screw out of kayfuns, that's an EXTREMELY airy draw! I keep mine about 50/50 and that's still pretty airy, but it's a close approximation of using just one of the tiniest holes with a single coil in a Magma.

If you think that is airy, don't ever try an Orchid. I started with the airflow set about the way you have it but have wanted more airflow as time went on. When I switched from 1.8ohm to 1.2ohm and upped the wattage, I needed more airflow.

Yeah, after I got used to the magma, single-coil at 1.4Ω with just the one tiny hole, I found my kayfuns a bit anemic at 1.8Ω and almost completely closed-off, so I started making my kayfun coils around 1.4-1.5Ω, and opened the AFC a little bit, so now it's about 50/50 open. I had it a little more open than that, but it was so completely unsatisfying, I closed it a bit more, and went back to using rayon instead of organic cotton, it can stand the heat a little better. Now the kayfuns vape very similar to the magma.

That's good to know about the Orchid, though I really don't look twice at most RDAs made for dual coils, with the sole exception of the Veritas; apparently it can be single-coiled, and the AFC closed off pretty well, so I may give that one a try. I love the magma, but it's a pain to take anywhere, with all the leaking, and having to be sure it stays completely vertical. The constant small leak must be because of the air hole right under the coil.

I still use cotton but I went from 1.3mm coils to 2mm and that seemed to resolve any burnt hits that I got. I switched from 30ga to 28ga. I ordered some 26ga so I may jump the coil size to 2.4mm and see how that works. I have never tried a dripper as I chain vape constantly and it doesn't seem worthwhile for me.

Single coils are my preference as well. Just want to try something different once in a while.

Very true about increasing coil diameter to help prevent dry hits; when I first started coil building, I tried 3/32 (about 2mm 2.4mm), but got a lot of dry hits, so I went to 7/64 (close to about 2.4mm 2.8mm I think) for quite a while. Lately I've been trying out 3/32 coils again, and I seem to be a lot better at judging the correct amount of wicking, and the 3/32s are working great. I guess judging the correct amount of either cotton or rayon is just something you have to learn over time and experience.

EDIT: Also -- if you have ANY interest in trying an RDA, the Magma's flavor is simply outstanding, and the well is large enough it can last thru an entire hour-long TV show, if I don't go completely nuts vaping. :D If I go a bit crazy vaping, then I can refill at the half-hour point; it's pretty quick, at least it is in the Magma.

Some Innokin bargains if interested:

MVP 2.0 15w silver $34.99
Cool Fire I $19.95
SVD $29.99

Coupon code love15 for an additional 20% off. Shipping $2.99

Variable Volt/Watt Vaporizers | VaporEngine.com | USA's Best Online Source

Those are pretty good, but I just saw a Sigelei 30w box for $36.99, and try as I might, I cannot get that out of my head. :D I really don't need another mod right now, nor can I afford it... but that's the same price I paid for my Sigelei Zmax v3! With which I've been very happy. So I'm just trying not to spend the tax refund before we even file our taxes -- I'm working on it! :D

Ain't it the truth! And I'm pretty well set on hardware now; what I really need to spend a chunk of the refund on, is stockpiling some serious quantities of nicotine while I still can, and maybe WTA too, which is a damn sight more costly. About the only "serious" piece of hardware I might be interested in, in the near future, is a Veritas, but I'd buy a clone for $18.99, so that's not even really "serious." I could use some new driptips; I've got one swivel that I really like, and I'd like to get more of those, they really help when the coil decides it needs to spit at me. :D

Received my SVD 2.0 at lunchtime and used it all afternoon and evening. Very smooth vape like the MVP. Big and heavy with 18650 and pyrex AGA-T2 gennie but has a good feel.

Spring loaded 510 was a surprise in that it has very little resistance.

efest 3100 button tops are too long to get cap to screw on all the way. AW 2000 is fine.

Fire button is very light press.

Can't imagine that the SVD is better as Gary stated. That must be really good.
