I'll do it here, in case others could need a quick and easy way to set up one.
What I did was pretty much following the instructions in this video:

Watch it from around 4:30.
Very easy to do and vapes fantastically. Don't be afraid of making it quite low in resistance if you have a mod that can handle it.

That'll work. Thank you.

Just blew another coil with the mesh. Yay. What fun. :)

I did another wick and wire for the drunker. 3 wraps of 32awg Kanthal on a 3/32 drill bit, for 2.3Ω. I used 3 single strands of yarn from the #4 cotton yarn for one side and 2 strands on the other side, then let it soak for 48 hrs. The yarn didn't swell much, so I'm gonna try adding the 3rd strand to the other side. The coils heat up slowly, so have to fire it for 2-3 seconds before taking a hit. I'm wondering if I should go to a smaller wire and go another wrap or two for the 2.3Ω's? I've got two more Drunkers coming from a co-op, plus I ordered 10 grommets, and two more replacement coil and wicks from SV for the ceramic cups, to have replacement parts. For the next try at rebuilding, I want to get the bamboo yarn to try as I understand it wicks faster.

Received my Drunker about an hour ago. Not working too well with the stock coil assy. Getting a lot of dry burnt hits. Guess I know what I'll be doing this evening.

I'm certainely no expert here, and I have never used the silica, but, did you let it soak for awhile?

Nah. I filled it, let it sit for about 15 minutes and then hit it. It's OK though. I'm not a big fan of the silica. I'll re coil it this evening with my braided cotton. I had the same experience with my Novas but once I re-coiled them they were awesome. I'm sure I can get this to work to my liking and I love the fact that it's a nice big 5ml tank.

Thank you for the tip though. :)

Got my silver crimp beads today. Unfortunately I'll be out of town and out of pocket until Sunday.

Trying to get all my housework done now so I don't have much to do on Sunday. May or may not play with the beads on Sunday. Don't count on it. ;)

Let me know how they work out for ya as I have never played with them, only tried splicing.

Okay, so I lied (not intentionally!!). Couple changes.

In preparation for my trip, I had decided to put fresh wick and coils in everything. Figured I'd do the Drunker first.. I did the crimping with the silver wire. Easy as PIE! Feed the two wires in (using 32g Kanthal and 30g silver it was a breeze!), crimped them together, gave a little tug to make sure it was secure, and trimmed any excess on either side. I did something idiotic and wound up troubleshooting a short for FAR too long (it was really dumb, the wire pulled under the center pin wasn't yet trimmed.. and was just barely touching the threads... lol).

Then the cotton round wick just kept falling apart on me. I love the rounds in my drippers, but not sure I can get them working in this tank. We shall see.

So I decided to do something I hadn't tried before, and that's remove the strong cotton threading from the yarn (just 1 or 2 pieces of it to keep the pretty shape). Once I removed that threading, the yarn took on the consistency of cotton wool/batting.. Like a cotton ball thread that was one big, long piece.

So far, it's looking like that was the best move I've made. Wick looks bea-utiful. It's wicking much better than it ever had before. Unfortunately, the coil I wrapped was sized for the rounds, so we'll see how well the yarn expands or fits in the coil.

One of the parents needs me to do some stuff tomorrow, so instead of going to Charlotte and to a gun show, looks like I'm headed across town to see my dad.

Guess I won't be out of pocket after all!

I didn't take pictures of the crimping process because I didn't know if it would work or if I would have to try several different ways to get it right. I'll get it next time. But it's really easy.

OH! And I switched out my rubber grommet for the silicone one from Surevapes. To be honest, I like the replacement ones from Surevapes better. They're a bit longer, so I feel like they're hugging my wires in place. Plus, they are clear. I like the look.

That's all for now folks!

I loaded a drunker. Let it set for an hour. Now I'm using it. I fully understand what you are going through. I see the potential in the Drunker and new wicks are a must.

PS - I can tell you this is going to be 10000000000% better than the Vision Eternity. I can not recommend the Vision Eternity.

What type of cotton did you try? Also how long did you let juice soak into the cotton before vaping it?

xMackx, I used medical packing cotton. This may not be the right name for it. it looks like sausage and has zero additives due to it's use in post surgery to wick out liquids like plasma and blood. It starts out approximately 5/8", when stretched slightly and rolled/twisted it works out to be about 2 mm and not too dense. Tested wick action with a little water and a coffee cup. I let the juice soak over night.

I'll have some new data on hemp cord and on bamboo yarn pretty soon. I expect to do a pictorial. I did my first drunker build but didn't take any pictures. So far so good with the hemp/bamboo combination. Hemp wicks a bit slow, tends not to burn. Bamboo wicks fast, tends to burn but not as fast as cotton.

FYI, I am testing materials in my phoenix drippier before building them into the drunker.

I hope my findings with bamboo help

It's called the Killer 705. It's out of stock except for one place (and that is only a pre-order, and it's way overpriced)
From the maker (in Greece): KILLER 705
From England: The Killer
From Ireland (preorder, overpriced): The Killer

Good luck!

It can be used in a carto tank, or as a dripping atty too.

Thanks! If I get good at rebuilding I'll order one, I do like my carto tank.

My Drunker was waiting for me when I got home tonight!! Giving it a good cleaning now. I can't wait to try it out.

FYI, some folks are reporting that the stock coil/wick sucks. I vaped on mine for a couple days, and it was "okay."

Don't know if you want to get right into rebuilding it, but if it isn't performing, I'd go ahead and do it.

This is a vivi nova grommet. nothing to do with the drunken tank but the desing is tha same

vivigromet.jpg

That being said, I wonder if they are the same relative size. Furthermore, can they be purchased as replacement parts? If so this may be a solution for the Drunker users that have burned a grommet.

Thank you!

Surevapes for replacements.: Vulcan Replacement Silicone Grommet (Top)

$0.32 cents and they work perfectly. Rebuilt mine with a replacement today to test it for myself. I actually prefer these (they're a tiny bit longer).

Surevapes has free shipping, AND they sell replacement ceramic cups. I picked up 3 ceramic cups and 10 replacement grommets (I expect to lose a couple, not to burn them out) for about $10 shipped.

Edit: the ceramic cups are sold as "drunker replacement coil/wick" .. but each comes with the ceramic cup.

Supplier/MFG/Vendor link for the silver beads please?

I've been sitting here trying to decide if I want to try it with the stock coil or not. After the post with the rat urine comment I'm really cleaning it, and I think I'll just go ahead and rebuild. I saw a re-threader and made one out of kanthal and had luck on the nova's pulling out the silica and rewicking with cotton without doing a new coil. I was thinking that I may try that with one wick, and then use Mack's design with the helper wicks. Or do you think I should just do a new coil as well?

You should be able to pull out the silica easily. Your cotton wick should be thin enough to slide into the coil, so you should be good.

Wick assists seem to work well in my experience. I say go for it. Why waste the wire if you don't need to?
