Insulator question.

Anybody care to school me on the insulators? How they work, what they do? From my point of view of not knowing anything. burned an insulator melted it a tiny bit by accident cous I forgot the have my mod locked.. -_-.. anyways question is. I'm getting that chemical taste. It doesn't seem to be melted too much just a little bit off the top. Should it be causing problems for me? Wouldn't a vodka soak get rid of the weird taste and fix it if not damaged too much? Also if it needs to be replaced, it's for a gamma tank.. anyone know where I could find such?? Thank you for your time.

Alright.. since no one replied I thought I'd put up what I did if anyone had this problem. I did a vodka soak overnight, rebuilt it and made sure it was far away from the insulators,posts, and the base. Chemical taste is completely gone and it vapes just fine now.
