Jerry, you have to syringe fill em. If you free pour your juice on top of the cup seal its just going to run down the center tube and wont make it into the tank.

Yeah I confirmed that for myself when I pulled what is in there out. Could've free poured at that point, and maybe should've given my luck with the other four units.

You misunderstood what jerry503 was talking about. He was talking about removing seal that's in there at which point he could have dripped down the side of the tube.

Ahh, my mistake. I might try removing that cup seal entirely like the old fluxo deluxes.

Two out of two phoenix top-coils that I've filled are getting that gurgling too. Used the included syringe the first time, a thinner syringe I've got here on the second. Same as above - a drop or so of juice collects somehow between the o-ring and the mouthpiece.

The first one starting giving off the dryburnt taste after about a half-hour of vaping, which comes and goes now - I decided to give it a good rinse and let it dry to see if it can be salvaged later. The second is holding up better, but I've cleaned out the area between the tip and o-ring a couple of times with a q-tip, and the juice works its way back up pretty quickly. It's definitely juice, not condensation, as it's the same color as my juice. (An 80/20.) In fact, you can see the juice within the filling hole.

On the plus side, the flavor is fantastic, and I love a nice warm vape with lots of vapor and this fits the bill perfectly. In fact, I haven't vaped in ages (one mo'gain!) and I'm getting a little buzzed.

Honestly, I'll deal with the gurgle if that's the only tradeoff, but the dry-burnt taste was the pits.

Having now watched Chris' instruction video, I'm still not sure where I went wrong on all four of my attempts. Well, on 3 out of 4 since I know what I did wrong the first time -- it happened right before somebody here posted "do NOT fill upside down" heh heh.

But on my other 3 tries, as best as I can tell I did the same as I see in the video. One thing I'm not clear on though, is he just says "find the fill hole...stick it in", and doesn't show a detailed close up. But there's two holes, opposite each other, with one a bit larger than the other, right? I think I read here yesterday to use the smaller hole, in any case that's what I've been doing. Is that the correct fill hole or should I be using the larger?

Each of my results were different but were all fails. In no particular order --

- juice oozed out the top while I was attempting to fill. Same as what happened when I filled upside down, but I was filling upright this time.

- everything seemed to go fine, and it seemed to vape OK draw & vapor-wise, but it was seriously lacking in flavor. Due to tastebud boredom, I removed that unit from the battery and left it sitting on the counter -- sitting vertically, on its bottom/threaded end. Came back about 15 minutes later and found a puddle of juice, dime-sized or maybe a bit more, that had obviously leaked out the bottom.

- the filling process seemed to go fine, but as I vaped I got a loud gurgling sound, and juice was getting drawn up into the area between the fill hole piece and the drip tip. A few toots later, it was into the drip tip and my mouth.

As I said, 3 tries, 3 fails, all different. Any thoughts or suggestions? In the meantime, back to my boges and stardusts...

jerry, are you pushing the needle all the way through the hole? When you fill them, where is the juice line when you stop the fill? I just want to make sure your not over filling. I stop at the base of the white cup, so there is the silver tube, then the black shrink wrap, then the white ceramic cup. So i stop just before reaching the bottom of that white cup.

MrWarspite -- yes the needle has definitely been all the way thru the hole -- I've been going in a bit more than what Chris shows in his video. As to how full, you're saying to stop at the top of the black area? I was going a bit further than that, but still allowing an air gap between the juice and the bottom of the sealed area.

The first one I used, I was getting some burnt taste, after a couple drags. I had ordered the 2.6-2.8 version, and put it on my Provari, without checking the ohms. I set it at 4.2 volts, which is about where I usually vape my juice with Fluxos. The burnt taste got worse, so I set the Phoenix aside for cleaning. I opened another and filled it, this time checking the ohms before vaping. This one read 2.5 ohms. So I lowered the voltage to 3.9, just to be safe. It vaped perfectly, after a few "break in" puffs. No gurgling, and no leaks. I haven't checked the resistance of the rest yet; but i'm wondering if the box, which was marked 2.6-2.8 was mislabeled, and I got 2.4-2.6 instead. Otherwise, these work very well.

just vaped my first fill on the top coil, nice and warm at 4 volts, good flavor, no leaking, no nasty burnt rubber taste like I tend to get with the fluxos if I don't clean and burn and cut the seal, some condensation between the rubber seal and the drip tip, though with the fact that the heat is up top I can understand that buildup, I did find the need to remove the drip tip and dry out that space with a tisssue when I could taste the juice in my mouth which doesn't happen at all with the bottom coils. overall a great experience though with the top coil.

Well.. all good to report back with so far since my last post about 6 hrs ago...

The first unit I opened I did have issues with as I've already mentioned last night and then later summerized again earlier this morning. The "hot vape" or another way to describe it was that it was a harsh vape that was hot on the throat... was fixed after cleaning it and then spacing the coils out better so they weren't all touching. It vaped perfectly after that for two fills so far. I had also mentioned seeing a very minor leaking but this wasn't significant enough to worry about other than just to mention it. The leaking happened before the first cleaning and after I cleaned it... I also modded the silicone cup to open up the slits the wicks go through... this means any further reports on this unit concerning leaking are useless... Still, I needed a good working clearo so for my own use, it is still a good working unit.

On that last report... I mentioned that I filled two clearo's and just set them down to look for any other leak issues on newly opened ones. I put one vertically in a plastic coin tube and one horizontally on a napkin. I vaped perhaps about 5 times on each and didn't notice any of the "hot vape" I mentioned for the first.

I started to think the test logic through and relalized that on my first clearo, I had vaped it down about 1/4 - 1/3 of the fill before I got the so called "hot vape"... and then laid it down horizontal on a table which then later I noticed the minor leaking. So I opened a 4th one up and filled it... I vaped it down to a similar amount as the very first and then traded it out with one of the other two that I had sat down... the one laying on it side horizontally. These two that are now set aside to look for any leaks... have not leaked in the least. I also vaped the one I traded out completely and it behaved all through the vape until close to the end when I started noticing it was getting a little hard to pull on... The juice I'm using, while a 80/20 PG/VG mix, is known to clog a coil pretty quickly and I've always had to clean and dry burn after each fill... so this was not a surprize, it just happened a little sooner than I expected.

I've now opened the 5th and last one of the first box... at this point it is also doing very well. The two that I have sat aside to see if they develop a leak will stay there all night long and I'll report back tomorrow about them... so far they are not leaking no matter which way they are sitting or laying.

While still early in my own testing of these... I'm very happy that only one showed minor issues... Of the BC versions I had, all got to a point that they "hot vaped" and now that I think I know why... I'm considering trying them again later since I like the idea of not having to tilt them all of the time.

I have been vaping the top coil and the bottom coil side by side for a couple of hours (feel alittle sick lol). I like the warmth of the top coil but I think I like the vape of the bottom coil better. I haven't had any leaking or issues of the top coil but for some reason seem to favor the bottom coil. Both really work well though

As to Chris' (and maybe others) question about how can people be having so much trouble, and numerous comments that it's "just like a CE2", or "just like a fluxo", or just like whatever...

At least in my case, I can answer that in one word: newbie. Other words come to mind as well (clueless, clumsy, un-handy, shouldn't tinker, etc.) -- but I'll be nice to myself and stick with "newbie". I've never used a CE2, nor a fluxo. Prior to yesterday I'd never been on the operating end of a syringe (in any context). My only experience, since graduating from V2s (mini-cigs) with pre-filled cartos just a couple months ago, has been with Boge cartos and with Stardusts, which are so easy that even I can operate. Though, truth be told, if I hadn't seen the videos it wouldn't have occurred to me to simply unscrew, tilt and fill. I'd probably be trying to pull the drip tip off, and clueless how to get the f*&#$ juice inside. :(

Point being, I guess, some of us are less experienced, or less inclined to intuitively Figure Things Out, than many of you. Thanks for your (hopefully) continuing patience.

That sounds authoritative to me. Since I had no luck with the small hole maybe I'll try the large this time...thanks.
:laugh:Didn't mean to sound authoritative  My eyes aren't too great anymore and I just reckoned one was as good as the other. I just aimed and filled mine.

Don't be putting yourself down for being a noob, we all had to start at the beginning ;) Nobody here minds questions or helping out.
