Hey David, welcome to ECF!

I shopped a new policy a couple of years ago and landed with a company who classified vapers and occasional cigar smokers together. My rates are not the lowest but considerably lower than my smoker rates were. I'd definitely be interested in seeing what you can offer.
@B2L Thanks for reaching out. I would encourage you to check out our site where you can quote yourself to get a preliminary idea of cost www.latitudeinsurance.net/vaping and better yet PM or call me for a more detailed eval.

welcome, david. i'm starting a new job next week where the health and life insurances have a "tobacco user surcharge" policy that specifically includes e-cigarette users....sigh. while I use tobacco flavorings, I don't consider myself a tobacco "user"! I'm sure your presence on ECF will be a great help to many of us.

Awesome, thanks David. I've got a little time tomorrow, I'll check it out and touch base with you.

Welcome to ECF!

So, how DOES the insurance industry view vaping as a health risk? Are we still smokers?
@Qew Great question! The short answer is that with a few notable exceptions, the insurance industry views vaping the same as smoking. So I have two jobs, 1. to get out the information about those companies at the vanguard of this movement that offer NonSmoker rates (the exceptions), and 2. to try to get more companies to recognize and reward the healthy choice Vapers have made and offer these rates as well!

I certainly welcome you! There are few companies who care to classify us as Nicotine Replacement Therapy Users, I have an insurance company that makes my rate lower then a smoker, but higher then a totally nicotine free rate. I use both e-cigs and nicotine gum, it depends on what I am doing. I look forward to seeing what you can offer. I was using gum and cigarettes, then found vaping, I quit a 40+ year cig habit. There are just some of us who will always need the nic. I considered myself a lifetime smoker because my mom smoked while pregnant and while I was growing up. I got lots of second-hand smoke as a child, so, I consider myself a "Lifer"! This vaping is so much healthier then smoking. But, I still need the nic. So, I will see what you offer. Thanks

@jbmcdan Congrats on the new job! As for the way your work benefits view your healthy choice, pity, but this par for the course. Having said that, "work" insurance is an animal of its own...it's great bc it is cheap or even free (maybe not in your case), but it has many limitations. I always recommend clients have their own personally owned coverage as well as work benefits. In your case, a personal policy rated as a NonSmoker might even be cheaper than your group work policy! If you are not using nic juice, you have even more options. Would be happy to go into specifics. Cheers.

Welcome to ECF David. I know you're geared toward life insurance but wondered if you could be of help with health insurance. Classifying a vapor the same as a smoker is so ridiculous. Hoping you can be of some help in educating health insurance providers to this fact would be terrific!

@Nautilusfan Hello! You are correct that for now the focus is Life Insurance bc we actually have some traction there and hopefully can use this as a foot in the door so to speak to influence other areas of insurance like Health, Disability, and Long Term Care. Agreed, it is ridiculous and imho discriminatory!

David, it's good to have you here.

I have to wonder how British doctors have declared Vaping to be 95% safer than smoking and the U.S. seems determined to kill vaping or at least make money on it through higher insurance rates. There's obviously some politics underneath it all.

Are the companies you mentioned that offer lower rates to vapers separate from the ACA or are they approved to sell policies under ObamaCare?
