Is 1/8" Too Big for Quad Coils?

I built my IGOW-6 today with 26 gauge wire. The inside diameter of my coils is about 1/8". Is that way too big? The coils don't seem to be touching the posts or each other or anything... I just know most people talk about them being 1/16".



Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, and vape on.

I dunno I haven't even been able to use it yet due to battery issues. It's the worst torture ever! I don't think it's going to cause any problems... I just didn't know if that was way too big a diameter for 4 coils. I did a little googling and found several videos with 1/8" builds with pretty darn good vapor production so I'm just gonna leave it be for now and hope it works out. I guess I can just experiment and go smaller if I need to.

yeah sure but what ohms is it?

so long as the coils aren't touching any of the body or cap and you've metered it to check and checked your in safe ohms for your battery

Thanks. I dunno yet honestly. I could the math without a meter but I haven't yet. They definitely aren't touching anything, they are all suspended. I am just waiting to be able to use it and trying to keep my mind busy haha. I really just wanted to ask to see if anyone thought that size was crazy/dumb/whatever.

well give me how many wraps each and what wire and i'll tell ya!... how long is each tail(leg), 2mm each?

well... 26 gauge kanthal is about 3.21 Ohms/ft resistance.

3.21 / 12 inches = 0.2675 Ohms/in resistance

With about 3 inches of wire per coil, that puts each coil at .8025 Ohms.

So .8025 Ohms / 4 coils = .200625 Ohms

Assuming my math is right, my set up should be at ~.20 Ohms

Sorry! I did 6 wraps per coil at 26 gauge. My batteries are Efest 30A IMR18650 2100mAh. I just can't use them right now as they are drained. And if by tail you mean the part I snipped coming out of the negative/positive terminal, I'd say around 1-2mm. I snipped them as close to the terminal as I could.

I ment from the coil to the post but doesn't matter... you cant afford a multi-meter

I only think your crazy/dumb if you fire that bad boy up without checking for shorts, its a lot of powa and then ita be night night go to sleep vape machine

My pops has one he is going to give me but right now I am without one. Like I said, I was just wondering if 1/8 sounded insane to anyone. I don't think I'm going into the realm of unsafe or anything, I just didn't know if there were any other downsides to a larger diameter that I was unaware of other than resistance. But now that I think about it, a lot of people talk about doing 10 or 12 wraps at 1/16... wouldn't that be the same as 5 or 6 at 1/8?

I use 24 gauge wrapped around 5/64" drill bit. Can't go any lower in gauge than that.

I'm still waiting to get a multimeter, but worst case scenario lets assume I have a quad coil set up at .2 ohms. With a fully charged battery at 4.2 V that would put my wattage at 88, like slippy_eel mentioned before. Is that crazy dangerous? It sounds pretty darn high.
