We don't truly know about overkill unless we discuss wattage and also "Why 6 volts?".

1) Why 6 volts? - one reason: 2x 3.0 volt cells. Easy dual battery mod... no regulator required. You follow battery voltage.
2) You can still adjust the ohms getting a lower wattage if you wish.

So it's also a hardware/preference/PV design issue. Personally... I stay at a regulated 5 volts. Very consistent performance and plenty of "oomph" for the atty (3.0 ohm). But I suppose a 2x 3.0 volt unregulated mod is appealing to some... for mechanical mods that stack batteries for example (prodigy).

If it's too hot.. up the ohms.

As with most things e-cig... to each their own.

Best guesses, 2 cents.

EDIT: The prodigy is a solid unit. All mechanical mods have less to go wrong with them. You have to play with atty ohms tho..... vv units or regulated units are nice, but have circuits that can fail. So it's kinda 50/50. Once you get the ohms strait... I think you will love the prodigy.

Normally I would shoot for 8.33333 watts or less per coil.......as a rule of thumb.

So 2.0 ohm DCs are 2x 4.0 ohm coils. Assuming you can get the amps (a BIG assumption.. you probably can't) that gives you (@ 6 volts) 6*6/4 = 9 watts per coil. (or you can do it 6*6/2 =18 watts total /2 coils = 9). Hot, but maybe OK if you are amp starved and don't actually get the amps.

3 ohm Ducal Coils = 2x 6 ohms = 36/6 = 6 watts. Much cooler.

:)

I tried the 6 Volts and it definately isn't for me. The same with VV, too much muss and fuss looking for the right combo for a perfect hit. I like a good 4.2 fat bat with a good reliable carto that holds at least 3 ml of juice and I'm happy for at least 12 hours without messing with anything. We are all different though and some people just love to tinker and fiddle with their Pv's.:2cool:

AttyPops: yup, I just want to experience the different watt loads. Self-inflicted lab experiment. :D

edit: and yes, they're just the Tenergy LifePO4 CR123a's. They were cheap from Amazon and an easy way for me to play above 4.2v. If I find the right wattage, I'll invest in AW's or IMR's.

In the Buzz Pro subforums, they did a poll. Most of the regulars there are using VV, so the poll was asking what voltage they liked best. 4.5v got the most votes, and 75% of the votes were in the 4.25v to 5v range.

What is your Sweet Spot ? Poll - View Poll Results

Based entirely on that, it makes me think that 6v is too much for most people.

The equipment you use with it, and which flavors you are vaping, will effect your sweet spot.
