I remember reading a while back that people were getting duds on their expensive Nautilus coils when it first came out. Supposedly they have fixed it since then.

A friend of mine got a Nautilus a couple of weeks ago. He's run into trouble with the first 2 coils he's used. The first coil lasted about 6 days, then completely died and wouldn't fire on him in the middle of the day. He had a "No Atomizer" notification, and went back to smoking cigarettes for the day. We later determined it to be a dead coil when we swapped it out.

2 days later the coil is dead again.

My friend is considering going back to his aerotank mega again because of this. Is this just a bad batch, old stock, or is Aspire still having quality control issues with their Nautilus coils?

I tasted his Nautilus and I didn't like it actually. For some reason, it had this really plasticky taste to it. I know it's not the juice because we both use the same juice, and I had just given him the rest of my bottle earlier that week.

I heard the new Atlantis and Subtank both have cotton coils, so I just might recommend he get that instead. He still has the Aerotank Mega, but the glass on it is broken.

If the first two coils used were the two that came with the Nautilus originally (in the box with the tank) it is quite possible that clearomizer was older stock, which means the coils that came with it would be too. I suggest putting in coils from a fresh pack bought from a reliable vendor. I have heard similar experiences with the stock coils that come with the actual clearomizer. Worth a shot. Make sure they are labeled "BVC" and "Nautilus", because Aspire has BVC coils for their other line of clearos that don't have "Nautilus" labeled on the box.

If they were the wrong coils it wouldn't work at all right? He has 2 blister packs of coils bought separately. Not sure which ones he used.

The wrong coils would not work at all, they have different housings and would likely not even thread properly. I was only clarifying so that a future purchase wouldn't be the wrong item.

BVC coils also take quite a bit of priming to get the best use. Put a drop directly into the coil, then fill the tank and seal it up and let it sit for a half an hour. Then take 8 or so primer puffs before firing at the lower setting the device you're using the nautilus on has. Repeat, primer puffs and then increase the power, etc, until happy with the flavor. If you DON'T prime the coils properly and give them time to saturate, you will likely get bad results, and often this can ruin the flavor of the coil for the rest of its lifespan.

Other than that, I'm not sure what to tell you. More information could help others diagnose the issue. What device is being used to fire the coils? What voltage/wattage? Are the coils being primed? Are the packs of coils labeled "BDC" or "BVC"? What PG/VG ratio is the juice that is being used?

What battry is he running it on? I had bvc coils burn out but never had one fail completely

Running on iStick 30w. I've only had a coil completely die on me one time, and that was before I started rebuilding them.

It happened using stock kanger pt2 coils on an MVP after a dry burn. Dry burning is overrated. You go through all this trouble and I was only able to get about another half day out of them typically. You're also probably subjecting yourself to dried on, burnt silica hits. But that's another topic. I'm just glad I don't use stock heads in anything anymore.

I still get duds once every few packs. In fact, I order about 6 five packs at a time, that I share with my friend, and one of us always seems to run into a pack where most of the coils are crap- usually burn tasting right away, even after proper drops down the center. I've just learned to roll my eyes at it now.

I would double check that you're getting them from a reputable place. So many fakes out there, even with the scratch off, who really knows. But when they work, they're still the best I've had.
