Don't even ask the questions and start DIY, it's just worth it in every way. And it's not that dangerous, I'm mixing large amounts of nicotine at 100mg without gloves. Just don't spill it and wash your hands right away, no worry.

Let me help you start with the best deal on VG ever : Voyageur Soap and Candle - Ingredients, Supplies and Packaging for making Soap, Bath Salts, Lotions and Creams, Aromatherapy Products and Candles

(it's in body care supplies / cosmetic moisturizers)

This is horrible advice. You should never handle 100mg nic base with no gloves, or eyewear for that matter. It is better to be safe.

i agree with most of what has been said on this thread, i am new to vaping and so i have purchased about seven flavors across the board to see what types of juice i am into, next will be an order so that i can mix small batches and stay with fresh flavors. however, safety should be on the list of concerns. storage, protection, and accurate measurements are a necessity for safety. enough accidents and big brother will step in and shut all the DIY with high quality chemical down; see many examples. good luck

Pros: it'll cost you like 20 cents a day or less depending on your nicotine strength, and your PG concentration.
Cons: none. You used to smoke and it tasted like an ashtray, there's only room for improvement here.

if you want to learn how to DIY and rebuild your own stardusts or vivi novas, do read The Vaper's Handbook here:

How much requirement is needed? Will it look like Breaking Bad out in my shop?

No.

I use 36mg base, vg, pg and Flavors. Everything is measured with syringes directly into the juice bottle.

My entire DIY mixing supply setup fits in a shoe box. With the exception of the nic base which is in the freezer

So the subject asks the question. A noob but really enjoy vaping. Just curious about DIY juice. I'm a bit of a tinker by nature so wondering if making your own juice is worth the messing around.

Pro's & Con's

Opinion please!

Yes! If you know where to go.. Some places charge crazy prices for Nicotine base (flavorless e-juice). The best place i have seen for prices and quality is myfreedomsmokes.com . I use their nic base and its great. The way I started out was buying 24mg nic base and just adding flavorings. Its that simple.

250ml of 24mg Nic base is 13.95. Cool thing is you can vape it as is, so its easy to add flavoring to taste in small batches.

It is *so* worth it.

Use gloves, eye protection, turn off phone/TV/radio, close the door to pets/kids/significant other (no distractions).
Get your recipe exactly in front of you: Print it out, write it down, or prop your laptop/netbook up in the mixing location.
Get precision measuring equipment: graduated cylinders and syringes or pipette pumps. Counting drops is variable on the viscosity, and it is bad to lose count "one hundred and sixty one, one hundred and sixty two (SNEEZE). oh, crap, where was I?"

One suggestion I have, that I have not read anywhere, but is just common sense. Many have surely discovered it.
Add the nic last. Up until that point, if you spill your mixing bottle you have only made a mess or added scent to that room. If you spill it afterwards, go into emergency mode, and clean it up.

Safety Tip: Leave your nic sealed up, and use these rubber lids. You must use a syringe, and they are completely spill-proof. As a bonus, you will expose the nic to less air, and it will stay fresh longer.

I would say a newbie DYI should start with 24mg nic base is no more dangerous then normal 24mg e-liquid that 1000's of us get on our hands daily.

Now before you start turning your house into what looks like a lab - you should start off with single flavored juice, which requires nothing more then your eyeballs and taste buds. I start at 1ml of flavor to every 9ml of e-juice or about 10% unless its some potent flavor. Vape.. does it taste good? yes? congratulations you just made basic e-liquid for pennies. It doesn't get more simple.

As you progress you will need all the gear, but for now.. keep it simple..

I put my nic and DYI in a coca cola 6 pack fridge.. keeps my nic base nice and clear.

Placed an order with Wizard this morning. After doing the math on the cost I just had them cut it for me. I only vape 18mg so don't need it higher anyhow. For 500ml it was about only 20 cents more than getting 36 plus the PG and VG. I was actually just going to go 100mg and cut it but for the 1st round I figure get it to the strength I use and concentrate on flavoring for a while. Plus I'd like to wean down my level anyhow eventually. Got a bunch of measuring stuff and some bottle as well. It'll keep me busy for a few months :)

You guys rock!

brassmonkyB, congrats! 500ml is quite a lot, should last you for a while. Yup, safety first is best.

A good tip for mixing? Despite (or because of?) whatever heating thing you use, get some plain old atomizers that fit your PV. You can de-wick and de-bridge them with tweezers, or buy them that way. They will retain less flavor, for you to use them as a testing vehcle.

Start small, with tiny test batches. 3ml is a good-sized test batch. 30 ml is a bad idea for a test batch! Shake it until your hand is tired, steep it in hot water, and drop a few drops on the atty.

The atty can be cleaned easily, and will be more re-usable than most other things. You can boil it, flush with ISO, whatever. Prime with a few drops of straight PG to get it ready, then try the next batch!

Thanks for the tips. Especially the atty...its not my main vape device but I do have a drip tip atty set up on an ego. Perfect! I did get some 3ml bottles for testing. I got a large amount because I have a friend I converted a week after I did and he seems to have the exact same taste as me but won't DIY anything. In fact just has me order 1 of whatever I order when I do it. So once I stumble on a good recipe he's going to want a batch so he paid for half...its cheap anyhow this way. Plus I vape multiple flavors through out the day so I always have 3 or 4 bottles open :) In less than 3 weeks I've turned into a maniac! But my wife is 100% behind me if it means no more stinkies.

EXcellent stuff Lonnie. Wizard Labs was pretty cheap and i just purchased it at the strength I wanted with % PG/VG as well. This way no other mess. This way I just add flavors, which they also sell, plus a couple other vendors since I'm on the hunt for a good tobacco flavor.

Buying premixed flavors are fine for many people, BUT

I am a BIG fan of DIY (do it yourself).
Advantages are controlled nicotine mg (start high and go low) and cost effective.
I started with 36mg nic mix and I am now at 10mg
Buying a variety of flavors until you find your favorite few
