safe distance from a black hole
Actually, there was. It's estimated to have killed somewhere between one and four million people world-wide. But the world didn't panic over it:
Hong Kong flu - Wikipedia
The world did panic about it. Just hitting google and reading some news paper headlines gives a little perspective about how dramatic an impact it did have on people of the day.
*My guess* is that without the instant access to the internet people back then were spared a lot of the melodrama of an event that the internet brings with it.
I do agree though, people do seem less stoic than they once were.

Yep, but that is what happens when you give people trophies for participating in their own LIFE. Melodrama. Most (not all) but most older folks are just quietly doing what they feel they need to do.

It is also what happens when there is very nasty and ugly government schism and each side kind of takes a tilt at it, windmill style. You know. Don Quixote.

I am not best pleased with the melodrama although when I was really at my sickest, I read this blog of a nurse practitioner who "had it" she thought. The healthcare workers are the ones who like, are the most melodramatic of ALL. So it was in grave detail. She went on at length about her patients and abandoning them, but what was really in some ways the most amusing (I'm sorry) was she had a friend who was an abortionist in a rural area who was afraid to give it to her patients.

I had to think long and hard about that one. Finally, I decided if it were me, I would go in and lay d down on the table and feel cruddy, but put a big sign outside that said, "I may have COVID. I am here. How bad do you want/need it today? Here is the number to the nearest planned parenthood."

I mean, it can be a time sensitive issue. And if she was doling out abortion pills, well you can tell your patient in what ways and how it should suck as well as side effects to worry about via an interoffice telephone

Talk about your moral quandaries. Man though yeah healthcare works are the worst for catching this stuff. I think I was probably less stoic on the freaking "Who has Covid thread" than I might be. I need to find that thread no one believed I had it but my dad who still has contacts in the US snuck me into a T-cell thing (had to send in blood) and it confirmed yeah, whatever it is T-cells are supposed to show, I had it. I'm not telling anyone. I don't want to deal with some kind of quarantine. Etc.

ECF== not dead page 22 and we can talk about what we WANT I guess, as long as we note that ECF is not dead, rite?

To make this vape related in the slightest, "Y'ever" (hehe) have a problem atomizer that just sucks, and had problem after problem but you love it? Would you retire it? It seriously is taking up a chunk of my time. How long would you wait? I hate it. I love it. It's like a BAD GIRLFIREND and no one wants THOSE.
