How do we expect the general public to accept vaping when so many vapers are ignorant of what we do? The New Members Forum here scares me for our future.

IMO the average age on ECF has gone down significantly in the last two years. It's great the community is growing so fast too. It just means we have to keep helping everyone along. Change can be scary though

The non Noobs can't even agree on much. It's a pretty diverse community.

Good point B1sh0p. That can help us as long as we don't let it divide us.

And you have grown up with all vaping knowledge right? I mean, you were never a n00b once? Our job here is to educate, not point fingers at those less informed and make them an example. That's elitist right there...

Oh god this this this this.

I see this on every forum... It's all novices at first... Then it grows and grows and all of a sudden people who drop by for knowledge and information are crucified and made fun of.

Nah, there are things the majority agrees on. Maybe some differences in fine points, personal preferences or ideology perhaps, depending on the subject, but when it comes to safety, for instance, only the odd one disagrees and they stand out like a sore thumb. As in most of life, a little discernment is required.

I agree with your feelings Vermonster and the supporting comments. I have absolutely nothing against noobs, heck I'm still a noob myself but I am a research hound and since I started vaping have acquired, used, and learned much. I only give advice based on what I have learned and feel I have a strong grasp on to make sure I avoid the blind leading the blind situations.

That being said, I get very frustrated by the "hey, what can I buy to blow huge clouds" questions or the "I just bought a $5 RDA from my local store and want to build a quad coil super nano dragon build so I can chuck mad vapor" statemens I see more and more often.

I know the pros like Rip Tripper make it look insanely easy, I have stated that I really think they need to go back to including PSAs at the start of their videos and remind people, especially noobs, that even with the new safer higher amp batteries there are still serious safety concerns.

Just worries me, I probably care more than I should.

"Hey! I just started vaping last week so this week I ordered some cheap clone mech and RDA, some 18ga kanthal and some surefire's. Now I can blow phat clouds like riptripper!!11"
Or one of my favorites..."I just can't quit smoking if I can't blow huge clouds!"

Sorta like just learning how to ride a motorcycle and then running out and buying a GSXR1000 or Hayabusa.
Unfortunately they're not going to listen to what they don't want to hear. They don't care about safety, just how to wrap whatever the latest flavor of the month coil is and "chuck mad vapor".
Normally I'd be just fine with letting Darwin take care of this but sadly whatever mistakes they make only makes us as a whole look bad.

By the way, I am a non-native speaker of English, and I was once taught that there is a difference between "newbie" and "noob".

Contrary to the belief of many, a noob/n00b and a newbie/newb are not the same thing. Newbs are those who are new to some task* and are very beginner at it, possibly a little overconfident about it, but they are willing to learn and fix their errors to move out of that stage. n00bs, on the other hand, know little and have no will to learn any more.

I have been using the words like that ever since.
Is that correct, please?

Vermonster, some of the things I read on ECF scare/offend me also, but the noobs, not at all. What I can't get my mind around are the many who apparently hate vaping and miss no chance to point out how bad it is, and how they don't mind proposed restrictions at all. Nicotine is to be avoided at all costs (its a deadly poison!), and a person who doesn't smoke should NEVER even think about trying it. I don't know, but I thought ECF was supposed to be an advocate for vapers, and I don't think we'll ever get anywhere as long as some in our own ranks speak so harshly against it.

I fully agree.
I have been shocked to see this attitude, even from some long-term members of ECF. Spouted again and again. As if the purpose was to frighten off new vapers, to drive them back to tobacco.
My home forum in Germany is pro-vaping (it is a vapers forum, after all), and continued FUD and scaremongering is not tolerated. Thankfully.

and a person who doesn't smoke should NEVER even think about trying it.

That is mainly for political reasons.
Our enemies, those who wish to drive us back to tobacco because they get money from people smoking - a multi-billion dollar industry and its paid shills (and no, I do not mean Big Tobacco) - are firing at us with machine guns. It is just not a good idea to provide them with ammunition :)

there. is. just. so. much. BSery. to. correct. in. the. new. members. forum. I. just. can't. go. there.

bless you fine folks who help out with actual knowledge instead of just regurgitating the same BS you just happened across from the last noob. you are certainly a special breed of folks.

Yes, bless you fine folks!

And yes, I do choose the threads that I reply to in the New Members forum carefully.
1. I cannot give US-specific advice.
2. I am strongly allergic to B.S. :sneaky: and my attitude towards people who absolutely refuse to even read information when posted in a thread - let alone to open any link, even to another section of the same forum - is... uhm..... not friendly ;)

Okay contrary to everything my avatar stands for, I admit I started this thread to get more vets involved in the New Member Forum and to open some eyes to the fact the fight isn't just with the antz, we need to keep our own up to speed also.

If they have the patience, that would be nice :)
