I had a similar discussion a couple of weeks ago with a guy who tried his best to 'inform' me of how dangerous vaping is. I gave him the basic facts but it was like talking to the wall. He knew everything there was to know about it.
When he noticed the hunting gear in the back of my truck and proceeded to tell me how dangerous it is to eat wild game because it hasn't been inspected by the government I just couldn't help myself. I burst out laughing and walked away shaking my head.

Wow...Yeah because the gov't pumping our meat with hormones and steroids then treating it with bleach and ammonia sounds so appetizing...That's ok. I'll take the venison flanks and sausage in my deep freeze over whatever Wal-Mart is pumping out any day.

Unfortunately there are plenty of people out there that believe the FDA has only our best interest at heart and what-ever-they say MUST be the full truth :(

If someone wants to discuss, I will always gladly discuss ecigs. If someone wants to debate, I will always gladly debate ecigs. But it someone either wants to argue or has no interest in listening to what I have to say because they have already fully made up their mind on the issue then I always say " If you are ever interested in learning more about ecigs just let me know and I'll be happy to talk to you" and then I walk away.

So, yesterday I was having a talk with a buddy. And I pulled out my new mech mod, well, new to me. Anyway!

So I pull it out and blow a huge cloud, felt nice, felt freeing. I FELT ALIVE. Well, he looks at me. Dead straight face and says "You know the FDA has proven E-cigs to be worse for you than cigarettes right?"

I couldn't believe it. Lost my mind. Asked him how he knew and he said "Google that crap man, the FDA has proven it's bad for you"

The more he talks the more I'm about to lose it, when suddenly he asks "Do you even know what's in that?" and I said in my head "FINALLY I CAN INFORM THIS PEASANT"

So I did straightforward "Vegetable Glycerin, Nicotine, and flavoring. That's it" and he said "And all that stuff will kill you, especially the nicotine" and I tried to fight back and inform and tell him the studies on ecigs that state they promote health. But he just said "If the FDA says it's bad for you, it's bad for you. They're the government, they're not gonna try to take away from your health. And nicotine is on warning labels, so, clearly it's bad for you. Anyone can tell you that." And he walked away.

Is it pure ignorance? Do people honestly believe this way? Or do they just not care enough to even try to learn? Anybody else run into these types of situations? Because lord knows I'm stumped to hell on how to even approach him about it again.

No offense to your buddy but....

Perfect example of a "Sheeple". To enclosed in the box of their own world to go out and do their own research, believing everything the herd and leaders of the herd tell them is truth and gospel.

Yeah... im 29 and im fairly disillusioned with my generation. They cant quit with the social media and believe everything they read on fb... global warming? Well I believe it was a couple years ago that they said it was colder than average because of global warming... think about that for a minute.... ok so there is a possibility that if you vape wrong you can get the same levels of certain chemicals as smoking.... well, what about the other 400 chemicals????? I have one of those mythical good paying blue collar jobs (make well over 100k a year) and theres a couple other guys my age or younger and they have no idea how good they got it and do stupid stuff and are constantly on the border of getting fired.... I just dont understand it. They are the same people that dont want to hear about vaping.... I do hope that my generation gets its act in gear...
ok end of rant...
I do get quite a few questions at work about vaping expecially from the smokers and have been handing business cards to my favorite local b&m... im all about converting smokers. I feel so much better and more energetic, best ive felt since before I started smoking.

If someone tries to tell you that the FDA has proven something about e-cigarettes or has made any other statement, just remind them that the FDA has no statutory authority to regulate e-cigarettes.

The current proposed rules are attempting to include e-cigarettes, or rather e-liquid, under the statutory definition of a tobacco product, but this has not yet happened. Therefore, the agency cannot conduct studies or make any official statements about them.

Ignorance? Or Gullibility? More likely a combination of both.

Tired of having this talk with people who are old enough to know that the idiot box lies to you.

Tired of having this discussion with all the people who were up my keister to get off the analogs.

Tired of having this conversation with people who feign intelligence and "the wisdom of old age" when they are neither old, nor wise.

:vapor: and :vapor: tired of people thinking I should give a rat's rear about their ridiculously spoon fed opinions. Bite me. :vapor: :vapor:

Ahhh. Much better. :)

You should carry little cards with the CASAA website address on it. Then when people start gushing their nonsense hand them the card and tell them to go and read about the facts so they don't look like idiots when they speak.

This is sound advice. I was recently in a Chinese restaurant in Seattle enjoying a lovely brunch along with my DIY Red Bull in my Titanide/Prometey setup just sitting on the table. I absent mindedly too a vape when this older lady at the next table says "You know those things are bad for you!" She was like 65 and the 4th or 5th person to tell me ecigs were bad for me that week and I kind of lost it. I stood up and said "Thank you for sharing your thoughts, you old bag. Next time, keep them to yourself." She said "Oh, sorry....(and muttered) jerkwad." So I went alpha on her and picked up my chair and broke it over her head and said "Anyone else got a problem with my vape?" The room was silent and I felt victorious....until the old woman got up and proceeded to kick my ... all over that restaurant. I'm a six foot guy and this tiny old lady was hurting me in ways I didn't know were imaginable (I swear, at one point I think she was speedbagging my junk until I passed out). When I woke up, the police were charging me with assault and told me the old lady was Linda Lee Caldwell, the late wife of Bruce Lee. Some one caught the whole thing on their iphone and the police officer showed it to everyone in the ambulance, the hospital, the holding cell while laughing. Now I don't go all alpha on the ANTZ cuz you never know when one of them will be the late Bruce Lee's wife.

Well, this blew up while I was working.

Personally I just find it incredible. And a majority of my friends vape, and the moment I was alone and vaping and talking to some of my buddys who are smokers who wanted to learn a bit about it all he did was try to shoot down everything I was working to promote. Like my other friends HEALTH.

When he walked away my friends who still smoke just said "Is what he said true?" and I made it too short and sweet and just said "Look, you're addicted to something that catches on fire, basically smoke which turns into tar. I'm addicted to something that vaporizes, basically steam. Would you rather be addicted to tar or steam" and that seemed to awaken their inner "HOLY HELL" moments.

It's so pathetic that it begins to become funny.

We're living in an age where we have unparalleled access to information ( aka www ... ) , yet the planet is crawling with people from all walks of life who choose to be ignorant. To some degree, thats understandable:

Because often its not the lack of information but he abundance of it that can make the formation of one's own opinion quite a chore.
Separating the wheat from the chaff. Telling fact from fiction. Takes time and effort and people don't really bother with it unless they're genuinely interested in it.
Easier then to adopt a pre-formed opinion.

Yep, I did some wading through megaytes of data before I ordered my first lowly ego-t.

And I learned to carefully weigh the so-called secondary information : With altruism on the decline I look at theinformation and also at the source... Not just the 'waht is he telling me' but also the 'why is he telling me'

Information/data has become a valuable commodity. So, if folks are giving it away for free there is either a hidden agenda or a price which isn't paid in coin....

And them smart alecks...I explain to them what the acronym really means.....

You just gotta ignore that guy and make sure the ones who were interested get well educated so they won't be turned off by his ignorance. Keep vaping and sharing the goodness.
