So, yesterday I was having a talk with a buddy. And I pulled out my new mech mod, well, new to me. Anyway!

So I pull it out and blow a huge cloud, felt nice, felt freeing. I FELT ALIVE. Well, he looks at me. Dead straight face and says "You know the FDA has proven E-cigs to be worse for you than cigarettes right?"

I couldn't believe it. Lost my mind. Asked him how he knew and he said "Google that crap man, the FDA has proven it's bad for you"

The more he talks the more I'm about to lose it, when suddenly he asks "Do you even know what's in that?" and I said in my head "FINALLY I CAN INFORM THIS PEASANT"

So I did straightforward "Vegetable Glycerin, Nicotine, and flavoring. That's it" and he said "And all that stuff will kill you, especially the nicotine" and I tried to fight back and inform and tell him the studies on ecigs that state they promote health. But he just said "If the FDA says it's bad for you, it's bad for you. They're the government, they're not gonna try to take away from your health. And nicotine is on warning labels, so, clearly it's bad for you. Anyone can tell you that." And he walked away.

Is it pure ignorance? Do people honestly believe this way? Or do they just not care enough to even try to learn? Anybody else run into these types of situations? Because lord knows I'm stumped to hell on how to even approach him about it again.

Sorry, I would have laughed at him. As pathetic as it seems, I have found it to be more effective than attempting to explain. They think you don't know, they think they know something, laughing makes them wonder if they do. In cases where I actually see these people again (mostly family) they quickly do a little more digging and find out for themselves.

Wow...Even here in MS I've only ever met one person who was that ignorant and she was an admitted ANTZ. She is so anti she wouldn't even listen when I explained that nicotine is in a lot of the food she eats and is merely a stimulant, not a carcinogen. People like that worry me because they won't educate themselves or listen when others try to explain...Makes me fear for our future cause people who are that lazy and willfully ignorant are increasing in number...Question everything people it's good for your survival....

Trying to argue with someone about 'e-cigs' is completely pointless and hopeless. I get the impression from this story that the person actually did not care about your well being, but really just wanted to get the feel of a "told you so" moment. I feel that's how it mainly goes, simple posturing, that just know more than you. While they may try to learn, they would only trust a 'Brand name' source, they would not believe other small sources unless they come from something as big as the FDA.

If I am not mistaken occasionally happens the FDA has us eating foods that notorious countries like China won't even let their slaves eat.

FDA is like a bad joke that people keep telling anyway. Just frickin laugh at them.

Yeah like aspartame a.k.a. asuflame a.k.a. ascuflame potassium a.k.a....Yeah. Or how about brominated vegetable oil? I could go on about how they don't really care because they put all kinds of stuff in our food that isn't even used in under-developed countries because they aren't that stupid, or just care more; whichever. We just change the name, maybe move a molecule to the left or right to "change the chain" and go on poisoning people...

Edit: Just for fun I'll tell you what those really are too. Aspartame is what a special strain of e-coli poop out when they consume petroleum and brominated vegetable oil is a freaking flame ......ant...Sounds yummy right?

its not hard to believe at all that so many people are ill informed about
so many things.
being 59 years old i can attest that most every one under age of 30 have
been taught since birth of the evils of tobacco, corporate polluters,
greedy bankers and lets not leave out global warming deniers and
the religious fanatics that want you to behave and absolutely everything that promotes
family values.
don't get me wrong i am for environmental safety, quitting smoking,
a decent return on investment but as far as the weather, what goes around comes around.
my religion is between me and god but that don't put me off from commiserating
with church goers.church can be good for you especially if you don't have a creed
to live by. family value is family values and there are different types of families.
having a family of any type for the sake of the cause doesn't work with out
the value part.
so its no surprise one gets responses such as this. critical thinking skills
haven't been taught in public schools for years in the big cities.
young people now days don't listen to the radio or watch tv,if they
happen to be its not the news.even as bad as the news can get they get their information
from sound bites.they are to busy being all full of themselves.
i can sum it up in the popular phrase"to much information! or information overload!".
of course i realize there are young people a cut above the rest and don't fall for
all the sophistry that passes as so called facts now-days.
sorry for the rant.

As one of those that, modestly mind you, considers themselves "a cut above" let me just say amen to that. So much of my generation is too absorbed in social media, or worse themselves, to look around and see what is wrong with the world and even when they do, they don't care... Sad really that we can't see beyond ourselves anymore.

The part that concerns me is that this guy is more than likely a voter that probably casts his ballot based on whatever mud-slinging campaign commercials applies most directly to what he thinks. Yeah socialism.

Amen to that as well...I think they should do a competency test when you go to vote...If you can't list say 5 of each candidates policies, .....
We all deserve a say, but an uneducated spewing isn't helpful at all...

I had a similar discussion a couple of weeks ago with a guy who tried his best to 'inform' me of how dangerous vaping is. I gave him the basic facts but it was like talking to the wall. He knew everything there was to know about it.
When he noticed the hunting gear in the back of my truck and proceeded to tell me how dangerous it is to eat wild game because it hasn't been inspected by the government I just couldn't help myself. I burst out laughing and walked away shaking my head.
