I've been vaping for over 10 days. I'm using the drip method after cartridges are low. I've had a couple of really bad times, whether physically or mentally (probably more mentally), of massive cravings. Last night, I 'felt' like I could have put 10 analogs in my mouth at one time. My nerves were shot over this. Husband gave me a half of Xanax to calm me down. I stuck with vaping and after about 30 minutes or so, the Xanax kicked in and I was better. I kept vaping my brains out and nothing helped except the Xanax. What I think triggered it was we were watching Burn Notice and the mom smokes non-stop. It looked great to me. What is the deal???? I smoked low tar and nicotine analogs, and am using 26 mg's liquid. That did nothing. Any insight?? Thanks in advance!
Why didn't you just smoke one? Seriously, switching to Xanax cannot be good.

I believe that the OP later stated that they had taken this medication (most likely PRN) previously. Someone who needs anxiolytics should take them when necessary ... without fear of mentioning it here ... and dealing with the resultant judgment from some.

There is actually a post on here about the MAOIs in tobacco (monoamine oxidase inhibitors) which has an antidepressant effect.... That may be what you are missing and there is speculation that that is why other nicotine replacements don't work for some people. Search for the post bcuz some of the ppl posting seem to be quite knowledgeable about the chemicals involved.

First off, happy B-day Trafik! Great choice of a gift for yourself. I went a similar route and bought myself one for this past Father's Day.
And to the OP. I find that when i get a cig craving and not just a nicotine craving that the sooner i take a couple puffs from that stinky old cig better off i am. I think it can potentially be more damaging waiting. It's like waiting for your WHOLE house to be on fire before you try to put it out ;)

OUR INTERNET WENT OUT YESTERDAY!!! Here I start my first thread here and poof, no more Comcast.

Not that I feel I have to, but I want to explain. I have fibromyalgia... all over my body. On a good day, I ache like I have the flu. Sometimes it hurts to use the muscles to breathe. That's loads of fun! Then I have interstitial cystitis on top of that. That is not a bladder infection. The easiest way to describe it is it's like having arthritis of your bladder wall and down through the urethra. This disease makes your bladder shrink and harden. This is not for wimps....trust me. I have other medical problems, but these are the two main ones I have had to live with for 17 years. I had to quit work in 1999. Since I have had to make so many concessions in my life, because of these auto-immune diseases with no cures, I felt I was entitled to smoke analogs and I pitied the fool who tried to take them from me.

Last October, my almost 86 year old Mom died of lung cancer. I was there with her to the end. I kept thinking, "Man, if this doesn't make me want to quit then nothing will." Then recently, I saw a commercial for an e-cig. I was tired of coughing all the time. Coughing and these stupid ailments do not go together. I kept sounding like my mom and this unnerved me....for the first time. Since I put down analogs, I hardly cough at all. It's been very difficult dealing with my mom's death. For the first time in my life, I have no parents and sometimes feel like an orphan. One drag would put me right back where I was and I know this from past experience....like an alcoholic. I live under stress as I do all the paperwork for my husband's business, take care of personal finances, etc.

My doctor closely monitors me and the medication he prescribes. I really don't think he'll mind that I'm taking a .025 mg of Xanax once or at most, twice a day until I get more time under my belt from no tobacco. I can't wait to e-toke in the exam room. He's a cool dude. He really is. When he walks in, I always say, "Hi honey.....I'm home!"

My avatar is of a real Maltese puppy. Is she not the cutest thing????? I have an 8 year old Maltese who is my heart. I used to get the biggest laugh over all of the older women with their pampered pooches.....until I became one. NOW I SO TOTALLY UNDERSTAND! :)

Hey Guitarman, Ya sure it wasn't just all that hard candy you've been sucking on :)

A Big Congradulations on your Success!!

Well thank you, about the whole candy thing, when i say I tried everything to stop smoking, I mean everything. Ohio has a quit line that offers patches and advise, and their biggest point was that cravings don't last that long... apparently I'm the exception to that rule, because my cravings didn't go away until I got nicotine into my system. I literally could think of nothing else besides having a cigarette and feeling normal again. lol It's a sad thing to come to term with, only feeling normal with nicotine coursing through my body. I'm on my way to 0 nic though, just trying to do it slowly to avoid relapses.

I have Fibro too, newly diagnosed. It sucks, doesn't it? :(

I say, have a cig. You'll quickly remember why you quit, believe me, btdt.

Thanks for the info input!
But like I said, one toke will get me hooked again on all of it. I just can't risk it. Here's praying that I can kick it.

I am on disability and live in pain. I'm not whining, just stating a fact. Not looking for sympathy, please. After 15 years, you do adjust! I truly felt I was entitled to analogs because it was my last vice (my pacifier), and I was a bit glad I had only one, well, besides chocolate, food, and other yummies. I am on a great deal of medication daily, including the xanax for my occasional meltdown, which does happen. I know my doc would agree for me using it for not smoking. He doesn't know, yet, as I don't go back and see him until the 1st of next month. I have this plan to take an e-toke when he walks into the room. Can't wait to see his face.

Wow! When I read this I thought I'd been sleep-typing! We have so-ooooo much in common! PM me, won't you? I think we could really relate and keep each other encouraged!

Saints, the puppy is too gorgeous to be real (but I knew it was).

I can remember once about 12 years ago when I was sick with something and, long story short, I kinda accidentally quit smoking for about a year and a half. It's the only time I've ever quit before now. Anyway, I can see where you're coming from about it only really taking 1 to spoil everything. I was fine without smoking and had never even slightly wanted one, but it was my birthday and I had a glass or 2 of wine, which I never did anymore, and that was all she wrote. I bummed a cigarette and then maybe another one, and by about 3 months from then I was a full-fledged smoker again. If I had never had that 1, I never would have started back. I must say, though, that I didn't have the e-cig to fall back on at the time.

Bearscreek, you know exactly where I'm coming from. I guess what I learned from this thread is that everyone's experience is different....similar, but different. I was a bit surprised that the main consensus was...just smoke one. I guess I was expecting something like, "This is one of the phases," or "you can do it," etc. I really didn't expect to be questioned about the Xanax like I was, but c'est la vie. There is always the possibility that I'm putting too much pressure on myself. I'm close to not smoking 3 cartons of cigarettes, so why mess that up? Thanks all for your input!

I wonder if the tobacco store misses my business. I wonder if they sell the e-cigs? I need to go by there and see. It would be a good edition to their store.

Hey Saints, I just want to point out to you that it was really only a couple of posts that gave you any grief in regards to your Xanax use, everyone else understood and supported you. I applaud your honesty. For 20 years I felt like such a failure because I had tried everything unsuccessfully to quit smoking. I had lots of friend who had quit, I wondered what was wrong with me that I kept giving in and giving up. I felt very alone in my battle against cigarettes, that is, until I came here to ECF.

You are so very kind, The Fool. Grief about the xanax? Naw....one thing I forgot to mention about the xanax is that it does help to regulate pain. WHY? Because when you are tense, you hurt more intense. I found that out when I had shingles in my mouth. Now that was really fun!!!!!!!! Praise God I didn't have permanent nerve damage like so many people do. Healthy, or fairly healthy people just don't understand, and I wouldn't want them to as they'd have to put up with what I do. I wouldn't wish this on anyone! God has given me the Grace and strength to deal with it all, plus great doctors! I've no problems with that.

As for the honesty, you never know who's reading what and what their background is. If I can help someone in anyway, I'll step up to the plate.....just like all of the people on this board do trying to help others......it's the same thing! Great group of people here!

Haven't been here for awhile, but still vaping. I had quit smoking analogs on March 22....quit for about 6 weeks, got my 510 in late April. I found myself enjoying both, yes, I went back to analogs. I think I was driving myself nuts at not allowing myself to smoke...it was maddening.

So, I am only smoking 5 or so analogs a day, and it's always in the evening...with a cold beer on these hot summer nights. It's a difficult thing to give up, although I vape abit throughout the day, in my car or @ work....I am just patting myself on the back for not smoking analogs as much and taking this whole thing one day at a time.

I am considering something with a longer battery life and maybe a little more throat hit of some sort.

Much luck to ya'll:)

This may not be the accepted reply, but I too have smoked an analog here and there since switching to vaping. I do get reminded right away why I quit though - the taste for me of an analog anymore is just gross.

But for the most part I think that if you want to have an analog once in a while even though you're vaping -- do it! There are very good reasons no ecig company will say they are a 'stop smoking device' - they are smoking alternative devices.

Some people have quit analogs 100%, some have just cut down to half-n-half and for some ecigs are not for them. Bottom line is you do what you feel is right and best for you. And remember, even 2-3 regular analog cigarettes a day mixed with vaping is far better than a whole pack of analog tobacco/tar/chemicals/smoke/smell in a day :). Just my :2c:.

I'm glad I found this forum. I've been using my 510 for a week now and cut back dramatically on smoking, but still admit to having a regular cigg occasionally, mostly when I first wake up. But more and more I'm preferring the taste of the e-ciggs and I usually put out the regular cigg soon after lighting it. I too believe there's something else we might be missing when we quit the analogs beside just the nicotine. The first few days I was vaping I had some bad headaches, still trying to figure out it was the nicotine level was right for me (using 24mg), if it was too high or too low.
