Is it just me or RTAs don't need as much wattage

I bought the OBS Crius V3. At first I tried a few builds and rewicked numerous times and just wasn't satisfied. Last night I built on it and I am truly happy. I built a 24G dual Kanthal with 7 wraps, 2.4 inside diameter ohming at just about .3 and I went up to 35 watts. That's the maximum that I went up to and I have to say that I am satisfied with both flavor and especially vapor production. I feel more satisfied than my baby beast with the T8 coil at 50 watts. Now I usually use RDAs with a different build at 65 watts but that is obviously more cloudy. On the OBS Crius I can take long inhales without tasting burnt and I get great vapor production at 35W. So for me 35W seemed so little but now I realized how don't always need high wattage to get a satisfying vape.

Keep preaching there brother.

Thus in why I get blank stares when people with these ungodly sub-ohm tanks look so dang perplexed I can out vape them at under 40 - 50 watts with a good, simple build in a sub-ohm RTA. I have the V2 of the Crius and barely break 30 watts with a 2.5mm 26awg 8/7 wrap dual coil at 0.4ohm and can chain vape a room into a fog bank in less than 2 minutes while theirs to do it they are 100watts plus on their TFV8s. Enjoy it and watch a slight decrease in your juice consumption. 9/10 times high watts does not = the best vape in town.

Efficiency is a beautiful thing...

I generally chuckle at the phrase "this build can handle xxx Watts". Thats just a weird way of thinking to me, as in my head it translates into "this build NEEDS xxx Watts to work properly".
Figuring out a way of building to maximise vapor output at a certain power is one of the most exciting things to me. More battery life per charge, better life cycle as well.
You dont need a 20G, 0,0x build on a Mech to throw clouds.

For someone who runs their SubTank/TopTank Mini's and Wine RTA's at around 16 Watts, I don't find this to be a total surprise.

About time you did ...

Just kidding.. yeah, but it's more a question that the deck will be smaller, so you can balance it with a smaller build, thinner wire, which ends up providing as much or not more surface than that 3 wrap hanger wire coil.

Try SS 26 gauge and go full TC for a complete conversion to the dark side.

a while back, I used to stump the guys at the store I used to hang out with my little poor man's setup using NI... which they kept believing that there was no way to make any sort of decent clouds with it... until they tried my setup themselves.

Every RTA I have are now with SS 26 or 28 (I find 24 to just not give the same flavour capacity) and all are set at 45-50W, using TC...

I've yet to find a better setup.

On my RDAs, I still use the same wires, will increase to 70W if I want to cloud chase, but I've never needed to go over that... it's all in the fact that people lock themselves into the belief that you need thick wire and high wattage to get proper vapour.. sadly, if anything, it's actually the opposite... a thinner wire has more exposed surface, you can use more wraps, etc.

I can fog a room up in 2 puffs when I want to using this approach... so yeah...

Hope you enjoy your Crius, it's a good tank I do enjoy my V1 (aside it's sweating issues)..

Its the coil mass.

A simple round wire coil needs a fraction of the wattage that a clapton coil needs.

A single coil needs half of a dual coil atty.

I vape a Kayfun Lite Plus V2 rta with a kanthal .8 26 gauge coil. All i need is 8-10 watts. Get up to 14 watts you burn tge wick.

I have done that too. Strangers have walked up to me after meetings and in public (usually a bus stop), and asked to see my resistance and wattage. I show .8 ohms and 8 Watts and they shake their head and usually mutter "it just isnt possible.

It is possible; the answer is

Simple round wire build, with a single coil, and 70% VG eJuice.

I dont like 25 gauge wire and lower. For me 26 and 28 is PERFECT. Lower gauge wire needs more watts and more time to heat up.

The OP said "more satisfied with the rta" compared to a juice guzzling sub tank. Although i don't vape the latter or hi powered rda's, I have tried them and at least to me, they don't satisfy me at all. I have come to the conclusion that my regular rta's are more satisfying to me because of the thinner and slightly longer chimney and slightly smaller build decks. This along with slightly less AF and a slightly narrower DT, produces an intense flavor , more bite, and better nic delivery then the bigger monster tanks. And then obviously, you have the differences in coils and how that effects it as well. I just think once you get into bigger coils and more AF, you loose something because of all the mixture of air going through it all

I've tried em too. I guess with the right build, they vape fine. I just can't get past the noise and the turbulence with the airflow. As close as I get to subtanks is a few hurricanes and a few k5's. Find the magic setting on the Ammit and it's pretty nice too but I only vape those when I rebuild em for the wife.
