Is it possible to ignore an entire social group?

No that is not possible.

However, as Angus mentioned in another thread, we are working on the social group posts as well at the Lounge and Outside posts not showing in "Todays posts".

In the interim, I can only advise you to avoid reading threads in the area that concerns you.

If you feel something is over the line, I would encourage you to report the post.

I understand your stance. I come here to enjoy and delve into something that I find has become a big part of my life, the E-Cigarette. I walk into my home and shut the door, turn on my computer, go to a specific place on the interwebz to give me my...me time. No outside interference, just what I am in the mood for at the moment.
What I keep telling myself is that this is just a glitch(sp). They are working on it and will have it fixed soon.
Don't stop, keep scrolling and soon it will be back to normal. I don't have to look, I don't have to read. I see it, it is there, no one is cornering me....I can keep walking (scrolling).
Some of these topics that I think you are talking about were shoved down my throat for years and I tend to shy away (run like crazy) from them. I do have my times when I am ready to have interaction, but not until then. Hang on and in there, these interwebz guru's will get it handled. Well, that's what I keep telling myself.

Cool... thanks for the responses! I don’t read them because I too, run like mad. I didn’t realize that there was another thread on this by Angus and it good to know that in the future there is at least a possibility of them not showing up. That’s good enough for me and until that time I will just ignore them. :) Thanks ladies!

yeah these have been bothering me too. I don't know why it's even allowed here.

But I just do my best not to read them.

I s'pose it's allowed because to disallow it would be wrong, just as disallowing the group with diametrically opposite belief systems (more in line with my own) would be wrong.

I don't read them either but even some of the thread titles strike me in a Robert Conrad-esque "I dare you to knock the battery of my shoulder" kind of way and sometimes it's difficult not to take the challenge. :D

I have been browsing that other group though and have been considering joining it to strike a sense of thread-balance for myself.

Well, I have a suspicion it might be a gnarly piece of code to write, whether it's the SQL or the PHP to generate it, or both, but as the forum grows, I find that I'd really like for "New Posts" to be "New Posts in my Subscribed Forums" (including social groups) -- either that, or as the OP has asked, that I can ignore certain forums. (Fora?) I typically don't hit "Today's Posts".

And I thought I was the only one!!!! I too come here to discuss this vaping hobby of ours. If I wanted to delve into other more sensitive topics I would join a forum that was geared towards those. I also ignore those posts and find it a bit annoying to scroll through them on the Todays post page. I am happy to hear that there is discussion and action to resolve this. I joined ECF and became a Supporting Member to discuss vaping. Thanks for working on this

Folks, remember that this is a vaping community. Not only is it a place to discuss e-cigs and vaping, but it is also a place for vapers to be able to shoot the breeze with like-minded people.

Yes that is correct and I doubt anyone has any real issues with like minded people discussing other topics. The issue is we are on ECF and mainly here to discuss vaping, hardware, DIY etc. And OP is asking if there is a way to keep the todays post on topic which is Electronic Cigs. Nobody is saying that the community should not have a place for discussions of other topics but that the todays posts should be vetted for on topic threads. As this community grows the todays post is becoming cluttered with many non vaping threads. Many of us use this option to browse incoming traffic. Thanks again for you help and trying to find a solution

After you have been here for a while, you will find that you know pretty much everything that you want to know about e-cigs and have said pretty much everything that you want to say about e-cigs. The social side of the forum keeps members here, otherwise, most members would be gone in about six months, or less.

That would be great! I rarely if ever read posts in the "lounge" or "outside". And although I joined the group for my region, I have no real interest in finding vapers in other regions or knowing when they meet.

I'm an atheist and I enjoy lurking in the Christian Vapers section. I'm an anarchist and I find the "Republicans" vs "Democrats" threads amusing. :)

I'm also not interested in DIY (Done it, results sucked) but I enjoy seeing those posts too. I guess I'm just used to the internet and the fact that people on it like talking about stuff I think is silly.

Though, as a technical side, I have to ask... Why CAN'T this be done? It should only take a few seconds. Add a field for "ignore_group" or whatever and change the "SELECT FROM <variable>" to a "SELECT FROM <variable> WHERE <second varible> IS NOT <query>"

New Topics ALREADY exludes some forums (so says the page), why would it be a problem to exlude others?

Agreed. I haven't even visited or seen any of the other posts in discussion yet but, after 34 years, I know myself pretty well. I talked about my new DroidX on another forum for 2 days after I got it...then got sick of myself talking about myself.

I'll agree that there's an extent to which that's true, but there's a lot of vaping related stuff, such as new models of this and that, new flavors, and new suppliers, that can keep people around. And keeping in touch with your fave suppliers in their subforums. All of which can have a social aspect to them as well.
