Is the REO better than a Kato hammer?

... For me? I'm not totally ignorant, just stubborn and unwilling to get into rba's. As much as it makes purists froth at the mouth, I use an original Kato hammer topped with a lowly pt2. Granted, I have an Aero tank base, a tatroe top, and a sweet three inch pipe tip. I've gone as far as I can go with plug and play. I don't want to build coils, dripping tastes great but is inconvenient. I don't change flavors often, and loathe leaks floods and gurgles. Is the REO for me? If so, there would be a slightly scratched hammer going on the classifieds soon. Also, this will be my sole mod. Pocket carry, all day use etc.

I know sub-ohming on mechanicals is the popular trend, but that doesn't mean it's the only way it works. A Reo, or any bottom feeder, is just like any other mechanical mod except the tank is built into the body. In some cases, the liquid capacity of a Reo is less than tanks.

A 1.5 ohm atomizer on a 3.7 volt battery is around 9 watts. 2 ohm is around 7 wattas. If either one of those hits your sweet spot, then just toss any old 510 atomizer on it and go to town. I use a 1.5 ohm atomizer on my VMod, the Reo's cheaper cousin, all day long and I'm more satisfied with that than any other device combination I've tried.

If you prefer the taste of dripping and have an ADV then a Reo or other bottom feeder is perfect.

I tend towards 1.8 ohm heads, at the moment. While I enjoyed my limited experience with atomizers, they weren't feasible for me personally, mostly due to the constant refilling. The Reo seems to circumvent this. Also, I like the idea of using 18650 batteries vice my current 18350. It seems to lend itself well to a pick up and go all day style, which is kind of what I'm going for.

I have the feeling you would be better off going to the Reos mods forum and asking there. I have a Vmod XL bottom feeder and love the form factor. But I use rebuildables on pretty much everything I have including that, so building coils is the norm for me. I have experienced the PT2 and it was good, but not what I will replace my rebuildables with anytime soon :)

For the Reo;

Pocket carry, check.
Able to change flavors at a whim, check.
Indestructible, check.
Great warranty, check.
Able to personalize to your performance criteria, check.
Ability to get your money back if you decide it's not for you, check.

IMO if you're on the fence, go for it. OTOH if nothing I've said here appeals to you, don't waste your time.

HTH.

I'd say go for it. If you don't like it, return it or sell it.

I own both a Reo and an Hcigar Hammer clone.

Honestly, if your unwilling to get into rebuilding you will be missing out on where the Reo can edge out a couple of cheaper bottom feeding options out there. The Reo will be loads more solid/bullet proof, and offer the ability to use a Kick as well; but in your case (unwilling to rebuild) a VMOD or even a Vision Aurora on your Hammer will get you what your looking for regarding trying out bottom feeding disposable 306 and 510 attys for 1/2 the price (VMOD) and 1/4 the price (Aurora).

You can get VMOD's that use 18650. They hold 50% off sales every year, I'm not sure when though. Perhaps someone else can chime in.

Also, a little FYI: You can purchase a Chi You clone and the 18490 and 18650 battery extension tubes, 510 cap, and switch for the Chi You will screw into your Kato Hammer, allowing you to use your Hammer with larger batteries or frankenstein it's looks (Chi You 510 cap and button). You can even reverse assemble your Hammer (atty sits above the battery extension tubes, not the button).

I'd go with the Vision Aurora first to see if you like bottom feeding with disposable atties in the first place, and move on from there.

If you were willing to get into rebuilding, I wouldn't even be suggesting anything but a Reo for you. :D

Vapage is having a 40% off sale on everything on their site right now. Makes me half tempted to grab a second one.

And there you have it. :D

Coupon code: 893ML for 40% off and free shipping.

Just ordered a 14500 VMOD so I can have a cheap and teeny tiny 306 bottom feeder laying around at my disposal. $50 bucks shipped is a no brainer for what it is.

Thanks for the heads up @Johnnie Price, coupon expires 03/31/14.

Cool! I love how helpful the members of the REO community are!

Reo owners are a great bunch! Aside from the reliability and durability of the Reo, the support that comes from Rob (the owner / manufacturer) and the community is amazing. In the last few months, I have sold off all of my other gear and put every dime back into Reos. I love leaving the house with one device and knowing it will last me all day and perform without a hitch. After I got my first Reo I realized how much I hated fussing around with my other stuff (filling a Russian 91 comes to mind).
That said- they aren't cheap, but they are quality mods that come from a great builder and have an amazing community to back you up. Come and join us! You won't be sorry :)

You know, I have seen so many posts identical to this one. I think there had to be a reason why someone would collect REO after REO instead of branching out. I think I'll sell the hammer.
