I realize the term was for marketing originally to attract smokers but, I'm not sure the assocation
is positive anymore?? I think it adds fuel to those wanting to ban etc. I for one, quit smoking
25 years ago. I vape cause I love it. I also realize the question I pose is not simple. I mean the
entire industry uses the term but...

Hashed, rehashed, thrashed, trashed and bashed a few thousand times already.
But..
An e-cig looks like an analogue.
An e-cigar looks like an analogue.
An e-pipe looks (kinda) like an analogue.
A box mod is a box mod.
A tube mod is a tube mod.
They are ALL Personal Vaporizers.

I call my mods and e-pipes PVs.

And no, you will NOT be able to get the community at large to stop using the term e-cig.

I believe both inventors Gilbert and Lik (if he actually was an inventor of them) patented them as electronic cigarettes.

To me I don't really care what they are called. 99% of the population will call them e-cigs. I know I started because of the e-cig marketing. It is not me who needs to change. The public and our illustrious leaders needed to wrap their small minds around it.

My kids call it daddy's pipe. I am fine with that.

Perhaps I should have made myself clear ... I am NOT trying to get anyone to change a name! LOL
Unfortunately, it doesn't matter that we might call this or that a mod or a clearo, cartos or fartos, etc, etc. To the general public, it's all eciggarettes. :(

...and using the term E-cigarette or Electronic Cigarette is how people are able to search the web and find this marvelous alternative to smoking cigarettes !

I think the point here is .. no matter what you call it, it is, still, essentially an electronic cigarette .. it is the logical most commonly thought of term ..

And no, it does not harm "the cause" .. those working against it's use would be the same people that would work against it's use if you called it the Nipple ..

What hurts "the cause" is the sheer lack of education that the 80% non smoking public possess

I didn't start smoking because they were called cigarettes, nor did I have a beer because it was called a beer. Your point is valid but since the name of this forum is e cigarette nothing will change.

Just did a google search on "personal vaporizer" (with quotes) and at bottom of p.2 was first link I saw to ECF.

You know what? I was going to leave my point for this post as only the sentence above, as I liked what you said, and felt this was a good contribution. Yet, in interest of fairness I did google search on electronic cigarette (no quotes) and came up with no links to ECF through end of page 8.

Then did search on eCig and link to ECF was near top of page 1.

Then did search on "personal vaporizer discussion" (without quotes) and ECF was the first hit.

Now, I'm confused with original point I was hoping to make.

Anyway, I use eCig and PV myself. Depends on audience.

I think using any term that is associated with smoking is damaging to the cause of vaporizing. There are many who feel it is too late to change it and I disagree. There was a time in this country that we called different groups of people names that were not very nice. We were able to change that. Most of the general population has no idea what a vaporizer or an ecigarette is so there is a possibility of changing it. I never refer to mine as an ecig, I also don't use the term smoke when referring to vaping(a lot of vapers do). My own wife equates my vaporizer with smoking as do a lot of people I have talked to. That to me is the biggest battle we have to overcome. If we do not do this we have lost already and vaporizers are not always going to be available. Of course that is my opinion and feel free to disagree but you aren't going to change my view on it.

Is "ecig" doing harm? Not at all. IMHO, I believe it brings to mind cigarettes and smoking. "Personal Vaporizer" brings to mind something for illicit smokables. Now, "ehooka?" When I think of a hooka, I picture basically an octopus lamp looking thing!

As others have said, calling it an ecig makes it easier for the general smoking public to consider trying it. And if they try it, they just might like it, and move on from NJoys and Blu's and the like to something better, like MVP's, eVics, Vamo's, REO's, or even mech mods.

Vaporizers will always be available. My opinion. Feel free to disagree with this, but I'm very confident on that assertion.

I don't think classwife indicated ECF would be at the top of the Google Pay to Rank search .. electronic cigarette, no quotes, turns up BLU as #1 and ECF as #4 ..
