I am well aware of the two sides to vaping in public. One side says, "Don't do it where smoking isn't allowed." The other says, "There's nothing wrong with it. Vape on!"

My position is that some median ground should be pledged by EVERY vaper for the benefit of ALL vapers.

I vape everywhere. I am Southern by the Grace of God. I was raised with Southern Hospitality. I guess that benefits me in being able to consider the comforts of others.

When I vape in the store or restaurant or any venue in our Smoke-Free state I do so with discretion. In almost 3 years of vaping I have been approached regarding my exhaled vapor, ONCE! Luckily I was armed with an educated script of replies and the entire staff knows my wife and I and have given their blessing to my use in their establishment, so long as no other patrons complain. I have provided the staff with information to pass along to anyone who complains if the occaision arises. We are regular customers and the staff likes us. This is just one occurence that I was approached by someone. Only ONE.

I have been free from confrontation due to my conscious consideration of a couple points:

-I don't always feel like being a steward to nicotine vaporizers

-I don't want a stinky smoker thinking that it's OK to fire up an analog

-I do not want to be uncomfortable

-I do not want to make anyone else uncomfortable

I believe in the right to participate in any activity one so chooses, as long as the activity does not pose any threat to others. vaping fits that demographic of activities. I'm not hurting anyone or causing them physical harm by vaping. However, if my actions are distracting or cause for concern due to the ignorance of some average Joe, I have failed in conducting myself with consideration.

People, vapers, I say vape on! Vape on with consideration of your fellow neighbor and his or her comfort. While we may know that vaping isn't cause for alarm, media has shed a different light on nicotine vaporizers in some cases. This is why I say do so with etiquette. I recently chagrined my Dad for puffing out a big 'ol cloud in a restaurant. That's inconsiderate. Meanwhile I vaped the whole time and no one was the wiser.

Anybody who has been vaping a week knows that you can disguise or decrease the exhaled vapor by holding your breath for a few seconds or exhaling down your chest through your nostrils. Please practice this simple exercise when vaping in public. By all means, vape, but be kind to people. Don't be the catalyst for a scene where misunderstanding and ignorance are argued. Be a steward at your leisure.

Please respond with your pledge to consider the consequences of being an arrogant cloud puffer. It could mean the demise of any vaper's ability to do what we do where we want.

Thank you for your attention. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! :toast:

Hopefully this will get a sticky. I do have an asterisk, after all. ;)

I don't think puffing out a big cloud of vapor in a restaurant is always inconsiderate. I think it can be. I think it's situational.

I tend to eat lunch out, almost every day, but I don't eat at noon when they are crowded. I wait and have lunch at 2:30 or 3:00. So sometimes I'm the only customer around, and sometimes there are a few others, but it's never crowded. And I tend to try and sit off to the side where I'm not next to anyone else. In that case, I don't see anything wrong with a big old puff. Yes, someone could see it, but I'm not doing anything illegal, I'm not doing anything immoral, and I don't feel like I have to hide.

On the other hand, if it's 12:15 and the place has people at every table and a line out the door, that same puff would be right next to a bunch of other people, and I would either not do it, or I would stealth.

I think it's very situational. So far, I've vaped in a whole lot of places, but I haven't had any complaints. (One, from a bar manager who sent a bouncer across the room to tell me no smoking. Once he realized I was vaping (which I didn't have to explain once he saw my PV) he was fine with it.) In bars, and in near empty restaurants, I don't feel I need to hide it. Most of the people who ask me about it at all are not upset, they are interested in what it is and how effective it is.

here in minnesota many restaurants had banned smoking way before any
anti-smoking bans were ever heard of.
so i don't vape in them.
when at a bar or bar/restaurant i ask what there policy is.
any where else i'm not sure of or when using public transportation
i keep it on the down low.(stealth vape,i prefer to call it being discrete.)

regards
mike

There's a Dennys near my work where I eat lunch at least once a week. They have an alcove in the back with 3 standard booths, not visible from the main room, and not near a door or restroom. I noticed that the employees eat there, and vape on breaks, with the managers blessing ...

I always ask to be seated there, its quieter and the waiters and waitresses know me, and that I vape. As long as everyone keeps it discreet, no problem. But this is Southern California, where assualting smokers is not only accepted but encouraged ...

As long as it lasts, I'll enjoy it. But the first angry customer, or new employee, that complains will end this immediately. Its easy to be a spoiler ... :(

As always it's just a case of using a bit of common sense. I wouldn't blow huge clouds in a packed restaurant, any more than I would dance naked on a table

There's a Witherspoons that my family and I meet up at once a month for a family meal. 50% of us are vapers. From what I've read, Witherspoons have banned vaping. But in all the time we've been going to this particular one, nobody has said a word to us. I always put my Vmod and KFL/Provari on the table with my phone as soon as we sit down, so it's not like the staff can miss them (my Vari is cherry red after all). I won't vape if anyone is eating very close by, or if I do, it will be an odd stealth draw (the double inhale works wonders). But if there's no other diners close by, I won't stop myself if I feel like a vape. Must admit I do use a higher PG mix for these times though. The only time anyone ever mentioned the vaping was a few months back. A customer walked past our table to the bar, I could see her eyeing up my gear. On the way back she stopped and asked me what they were (the rest of my family all use basic set ups, ce4's etc). So I told her a bit more about them. She said, "do you not feel they draw too much attention to your vaping?" I answered, "well I've been using them for the last hour, did you not notice?" She hadn't even realised I'd been using them :)

So I guess as long as your respectful and use your common sense, there shouldn't be any problems. Dancing naked on the table is still a bit risqué though ;)
