Personally, I was done smoking the day that I received my starter kit in late Jan of last year (I smoked about a pack a day of reds for about 17years prior). I started off with 24mg and switched to 18mg a couple of months later. My wife started vaping at the same time as me, except she had a real difficult time with it to start (my guess is that she had smoked "light" cigarettes for many years, whereas I smoked winston reds, which claimed that they contained no additives). Now she vapes regularly, but smokes in certain situations (ie when around her friends that smoke or when drinking), whereas I don't smoke at all. Best of luck to you and welcome to ECF!

Hydration is a word that seems to come up a lot.
And for good reason! From a vaping standpoint it will help with mouth and throat irritation, since you are typically moving a larger volume of air to receive the same amount of nic as you would from a cigarette and without extra moisture this will become unpleasant.

From a switching standpoint, keeping hydrated will help your body more easily detox/remove all the extra "goodies" that are found in your current cigarettes. It will also help your lungs stay moist which they will need to do to start cleansing themselves of tar buildup (yes, expect a quitters cough as your lungs start getting rid of all their extra baggage).

....I've been a heavy Marlboro smoker for 37 years, and so was my husband; he quit about 4 months ago and I followed on 11/14/12; both started with a "the ecig "Blu," and we haven't looked back.....it's been 2 months for me; we both vape now with the Ego's, my husband "vapes" more than I do; but believe me; we BOTH WERE MARLBORO SMOKERS FOR YEARS.............if we can do it so can you......."vaping" truly has been the answer for us.......Good Luck......

For me the transition was quite easy, however I
was done mentally smoking months before I purchased a PV. My first week I smoked a total of 5 cigarettes, after that none and I haven't looked back. My wife transitioned over the course
of a month. We couldn't be happier with our progress. I smoked a pad for 5 years, my wife 10 years. If you really want to quit, you can and will do it.

I vaped and smoked for about a month before I finally quit cigarettes. I set rules for myself. I would vape all day at work, and allow myself 3-4 cigarettes at night. After my nightly shower, I'd vape the rest of the evening. Once I got used to not smoking at work, it became easier. On weekends I tended to smoke more, but I realized that I preferred the taste of vaping and less of cigarettes. I finally told myself to stop buying packs of cigarettes. I had my last cigarette on the evening of 12/2/12. I did use one packet of SNUS in the morning when I got to work to make sure I wouldn't get any cravings. I stopped that one week into my quit.

I was a 1 1/2 PAD smoker. I started off with 18mg nicotine, but probably should have started with 24. Almost all of my juices are 12mg now.

Good luck with quitting. You will know when it's time to put that last cigarette down. Come here for help and encouragement!

I guess I'll chime in so you can have a broad spectrum of answers. lol

For me, the transition is not easy. I started at 18mg & soon upped that to 24. Yesterday, I got some 36 for the occasional "tough" moment and for the first time, actually put my PV down for a few minutes! I have flavors that I like, but not any that I could vape all day. I switch flavors constantly. I tried to "move up" to a Lavatube and returned it. I am happy with my set up now - tanks and varying sizes of eGos (many eGo batteries).

Easy? No. Why continue? Because this journey will have a good end result, of this I am sure.

Please note OP - I have read many posts on this forum for many hours. I have read people's opinions on juice, gear, sports, food, one another...anything you could think of is here on some thread or another. Through all of the triumphs and frustrations, I have not seen a single post where the writer lamented the switch. Nowhere do I see people sorry that they tried vaping instead. I felt badly that I couldn't just switch the moment I picked up an ecig. I don't anymore. I know now that I stopped paper cigs in my own way, on my terms and that's how I will stay off of them.

You may switch and find your perfect set-up and favorite juice in a day, it may take a few months and many trials, but with all of the options available (I'm sure your head is spinning already)it's out there.

Sorry, ramble over. ...and if one more person IRL asks if I've lowered my nic to get away from vaping, I will hit them.....

I've tried a couple of times to switch to vaping, this time I am pretty sure that I can do it. The biggest challenge I found was finding a flavor of juice that I liked. Twice I gave up because I couldn't stand the taste of what I was vaping. I got a new kit with new flavours just over a week ago and my last smoke was the 11th. When I have tried to quit before, with the patch or gum or vaping something i couldn't stand, I always felt bad when a had a smoke. Yet I always felt panic if I thought "this is my last smoke" (sounds crazy even to me, i feel like that yet I want to quit). So when I read a lot of posts saying to count the ones you don't smoke, not the ones you do, I felt better. I still have smokes at home, I take one to work just in case, but I keep every day I keep feeling stronger, and I'm pretty sure that I am finally done. Vaping, once I found flavor I really like, fills that need to smoke.

It took me two tries with vaping. The first was a couple of years ago with the slim analog looking models and they didn't cut it for me. I tried again back in June 2012 and it was initially tough because I was still using the small batteries, I found I was constantly charging and filling and it drove me nuts but I wanted to quit analogs badly. I was successful but still not happy with the hassle of it all. Then I finally found this forum, a place to get real feedback from real folks rather then just someone trying to earn a living. I was hesitant to order what resembled a cigar (I am a 53 year old female) but knew it was the only way I would be able to give up cigs for good. Mind you I still hadn't caved and smoked but was always on the edge of the cliff. I broke down and found a middle ground with a Volt X2 and their clearomizers and was instantly happy with and absolutely sure I could feel secure about not smoking (unless our government totally screws us). My advice is before you take the plunge and waste money on products you won't be happy with read all you can on this forum, figure out which folks your habits and personality fit with and purchase products in an educated way...you will succeed if you do this. But, as with any method, you have to have the desire to quit. Oh, and don't start with a low nicotine level! Start with 18mg and up for the best chance!

I personally feel its much easier if you go straight to a rock solid pv, delivery system and flavor from the get go. A few years back I tried with some pos cig a like from a mall kiosk. That lasted all of 1 week. This time around (11/30/12) I went straight to a reo and provari...I have not even thought about a stinky since that day

I smoked 1 ppd of Marlboro Menthols. My first vaping setup was the Smokeless Image Volts and their Ice Menthol e-liquid. It didn't taste like a Marlboro Menthol, but it was close enough.

I had less than a half pack of cigs left when my kit arrived. I allowed myself to vape as much and as frequently as I desired. If the urge for a cigarette came, I vaped more. If that didn't help, I allowed myself HALF of a cigarette and put it out, saving it for later. I tried to allow myself the equivalent of two cigarettes a day.

Eventually those cigarettes became less satisfying, and I began to prefer the vaping. When the cigarettes were finished, so was I. I never felt the need to get more cigarettes, and I have been smoke free ever since.

I've not wanted a cigarette in 10 months of vaping.

Vaping has more work involved than simply lighting a cigarette. You may have good days and bad, good moments and weak moments. However, if you truly desire to quit, you can.

A wise man once said, "It's not about the cigarettes that you smoke. It's the ones that you don't."

I'm having problems with my morning smoke, lunch break smoke, and bedtime smoke. Tobacco had an extra little kick that I find vape juice doesn't have (18mg/ml)

It doesn't help that I still had about a pack and half left once I got my pv, so I still smoke them cause they're around. Once they're out, I'm NEVER buying a pack of cigs again :)

Still waiting on my stuff to arrive and anticipating the change. I don't do well with change.

Dude I wasn't even expecting a transition. It was going to be a hobby type thing :smokie: until I started vaping.

All of a sudden I realize I'm just not smoking as much... plain & simple.

I got interested in vaping due to all of the different mods & e-liquids, & I thought it'd be a cool new thing to try out. It has now cut 17 analog cigarettes out of every day of my continuing life... not even trying not smoke the traditional cigarette. EZ-PZ!

I hope it is this easy for your transition too my new friend.

Good Luck & Good Health!

Vape on! :vapor:

I tried an e-swisher last Friday as suggested by my wife. I wasn't impressed but I could see potential so I looked online and found this forum. I fished for suggestions and got some really good ones. I went with some products that Baditude recommended after I also read the reviews on them. By Sunday night I was ready to order.

I used to sing a lot and would really like to get my voice back.

Yeah man the disposables do not nearly do justice for the re-chargeables & e-liquids that are on the market.

Day 0, the Day Before, I was around 55 cigarettes (2 1/2 packs). Yeah, I was a heavy smoker.

I gotta say it, my transition sucked. Truly, truly awful, and nothing I ever want to go through again. In retrospect, I think I pushed myself a little too hard and should have drifted down more slowly. However, I'm glad I did it. Now, month four, I have only the rarest cravings and they're easy to brush aside.

To avoid transition suckage, don't push yourself too terribly hard. If you're about to remove the cranium of the person talking to you, it's time to have a cig. I did find that WTA liquids helped a lot, and probably should have used more of them.
