There have been no long-term studies in regards to what vaping does to us. It's still too new. We know that cigarettes are bad because of how long they have been around. Nobody can say that vaping is in any way safer than smoking because there is no research to back that up, there's only assumptions. Heck, the combination of chemicals in e-liquid could very well be dangerous when vaporized and inhaled. Emphysema, Cancer, etc. Who knows?

Too many e-cig vendors state that their liquid is completely safe and that research done in the 1940's regarding Propylene Glycol is valid proof that vaping is harmless. Any claim that vaping is 100% safe is completely false. The lungs aren't designed to inhale this stuff without any consequence.

Safer than smoking cigarettes? It's certainly possible, but we have no evidence yet of that being true. If anyone is truly concerned about their health, they should quit vaping and smoking altogether just to be on the safe side.

Well Johnson Creek is a decent size and even has a pharma grade mixing lab with 3 airlocks.
I think the mega tobacco corporations will get in the game. It's like Anheuser-Busch (mega-corp) vs. Pete's Wicked Ale (Johnson Creek) vs. local micro brewery (mom & pop.) And the reality is that there's room in the market for all three types of companies.

Ahhhh, if it were only that easy. If it were, the e-cig industry would have never started up. I see nothing wrong with us being concerned about what we vape but as has been stated, we really don't know. As I said, we are all just hoping it really is better than smoking.

My 2 cents
If you were not using your electronic cigarette would you smoke?

The answer is a resounding Yes.

I have been vaping for over 2 years and my pulmonary function is now normal (it took 18 months of vaping for that to happen)
My blood chemistry is normal...I no longer have a carbon monoxide load
My blood count is now normal, my red blood cells are normal in size and my hemoglobin carrying capacity is normal (this also took 18 months to return to normal state)
I am (on paper according to markers used by life insurance adjusters) a non-smoker and I chain vape at much lower nic levels than when I started vaping(24mg down to 6-12)
That is study enough for me.
If FSUSA wants to pay for studies, power to them. It is their money and their product. I do believe if e-cigs are given the FDA classification they hope for there will be regulations and taxation...both of which are inevitable. In addition, these studies being done will not be acceptable to the FDA IMO.

I'm definitely on the YES train here. If I didn't vape I would NEVER stopped smoking - even with the bronchitis and sinus infections. My Ears, Nose, Throat specialist said the only way to stop these quarterly recurring infections was to STOP smoking. I'm only a month in so I can't say if vaping is helping me stop getting these infections but You've given me hope Bonniegirl! Glad to hear your health has improved over the last two years.

On the subject of testing - again I like to see this great cottage industry trying to improve and regulate itself. Overall I think we have a great community growing here, which is not to say there won't be some bad apples out there, but if we can as a community promote the a better insight into what vaping really does to our bodies than more power to us. Discussions such as this thread could lead to real breakthroughs into what type of testing is important, scientifically what do we really need to show that we are helping ourselves. As a community we should really try to organize some type of real oversight body that could supplant the 'government watchdog'. The government is not always on the side of the consumer IMHO and if we have our own organization we could really make inroads into mainstreaming vaping as a smoking substitute... Obviously any organization could not be supplier/vendor affiliated, but kudos to FSUSA for trying to get the ball rolling..

A dank basement in SE Minnesota
Late to the party, as usual, but this thread is very interesting to me as a new vaper.

A couple points:

* Whether vaping is safer than smoking seems to me to be self-evident. I say this, because after six weeks of vaping, I feel better than I did when I was smoking. My doctors wholeheartedly approve of my switching from cigarettes to my PV.

* The senior pathologist at my local hospital was a smoker for forty years. He now vaporizes. It's hilarious; he can be seen in the hospital vaping off what looks like an Ego.

* I am sick of the "there are only 4-6 chemicals in vapor vs. 4,000 in cigarettes" statement. This is patently false.
Yes, there is VG and PG, that's two chemicals. There's nicotine, that makes three. Then there are the flavorings: As an example, artificial watermelon flavoring consists of 63 different chemicals. Please get your facts straight before spouting this nonsense. Each flavoring can contain many chemical components; there are numerous good references about recipes/formulae for making artificial flavors. Diacetyl is only one of hundreds of chemicals used to make artificial flavorings. So, your e-cig vapor may well contain hundreds of chemicals.

* Unless you have either a chemistry degree, a chemical engineering degree or medical school training, you have no business whatsoever expounding on something you know nothing about. It's just more bad "Internet-formation."

* Why worry about all this stuff? Look, you damage your lungs every damn day by walking around in any area where internal combustion engines are used. You think car exhaust is an environmental neutral? Get real. You breathe particulates that are created in nature every day. Your basement, if you have one is probably full of radon, a known carcinogen. The cologne/perfume/cosmetics you wear are also inhaled. Are you sure everything in that designer body spray or hair gel is safe to inhale? Again, get real.
Life _is_ Rusiian Roulette. If not something you inhale, something you swallow. If not something you swallow, then something outside your sphere of control. Life is a risk...get over it. If you think you can control how safe you are, in the final analysis you will be wrong, because you cannot account for random variables.

So relax...don't worry...have a vape.
Really, I think everyone needs to chill a bit. We all have a certain number of days on this planet; I refuse to get O.C.D. over increasing that number. Your mileage may vary, as will your opinions.

Now, regarding David/FSUSA - There's too much tap-dancing going on in his forum and other threads, IMO.
That being noted, I'm glad he's testing, I'm pleased that Miss Nomad is part of the process, whatever may be her qualifications. I find her writing and reviews to be intelligently done.

(I still won't call her Mistress...she hasn't yet topped me, but that's another discussion). <evil grin>.
