With all the frantic attention the eleaf istick has been getting lately, I figured I'd throw a bit more gasoline on the fire and post a thread with a few photos I took of the two I picked up yesterday. Then I'll add some of my impressions so far.

I'll make it clear right from the start, I'm not posting here to plug the Istick on behalf of Eleaf, which will appear more obvious later in this post. Rather, like so many other vapers out there, as soon as I researched it I just knew I had to have one (or two), as it seemed to be exactly what I've been hoping for and searching for, and at a very attractive price. However as with pretty much anything, nothing is perfect, and I'll give you my own impression, the good and... well, not so good.
I'm nowhere near as technically inclined as Phil Busardo or many other folks on this great forum, but I think I have a fairly keen sense of what makes a quality user experience of machines and gadgets.
Also, I don't build my own coils so this is my experience with limited consumer coils only.

I'm insanely fussy (OCD) about details with QC, even cheap stuff, which is why I prefer to buy from a local B&M if possible so I can analyze and test everything. I picked up a silver and black. I looked at 3 silver ones before I was satisfied. The black was fine but the 1st silver had a slightly crooked display. The 2nd had a good display but had a couple noticeable flaws in the case casting. The 3rd was just right. Gee I feel like Goldilocks :D

Shortly after I left the B&M I noticed the non-firing button issue. Having read that massive "Eleaf iStick 2.0!" thread, I immediately kept pressure on the button and pressed even harder but still no fire and no display. I then released the button and it clicked as normal when releasing any other time. I felt quite sure my finger was in the middle of the button. So I guess its still a bit of a mystery and its only happened one other time since yesterday.

Initially both Isticks appeared fully charged and as others have mentioned, I also noticed that I had to set the voltage lower than I do on any of my other devices to get the same strength of hit.
Last night I checked my black one which still appeared fully charged, so I tried a Kanger Aerotank Mini on it with the 1.5 ohm dual coil which for me can never be pushed past 3.7 - 4 volts max without tasting burnt. I set the Istick at 3 volts and sure enough it hit hard and the juice was popping like it was about to explode but oddly it didn't taste burnt.
I then put a fresh battery in my Sigelei Legend V2 and set it to 3 volts and the hit on that same tank/coil was quite weak.
So regardless of how the Istick is readng its voltage, I can clearly see why many users are saying it hits too hard on some of their setups compared to all their other devices.
As others have mentioned, I will just ignore the settings and simply adjust it to taste, and since I mostly use consumer coils in several Nautilus Minis and an Emow Mega tank, all of which start out at 1.8 ohm and quickly go to 2 ohm after a bit of use, its so far hitting perfectly for me every time. I'll just reserve the Aerotank/1.5 ohm tank for my matching Evod VV batts which adjusts voltage perfectly for that tank.

So far I don't recall anyone complaining about how the fire button feels to push. Well I'm not exactly complaining either but I do notice my silver one takes a bit more pressure to push than the black one, and neither button is quite as pleasant to press as all my other devices. The Istick fire button seems a bit too small and doesn't have as positive feeling contact-click as my other devices. On the plus side, the button is very quiet and also, in my experience, there's no 'rattlesnake' sound at all. In fact the voltage being applied to the coil is dead silent on my Nautilus Minis and Emow Mega tanks; the exception being only what seemed like an excessive hit being applied to one kanger 1.5ohm coil at minimum set voltage.

The display is also dimmer than I thought it would be based on images and videos I've seen online. I doubt it would be easy to see under bright light or daylight outdoors, but I haven't tried that yet.

Conclusions: despite a few minor disappoinment, the most noteworthy in my opinion being the seemingly inaccurate display or lack of step-down circuitry, I'm really liking this tiny mod. Its very comfortable to carry and use and the battery so far is lasting a good amount of time. I picked them up yesterday afternoon and with only using the silver one and vaping about 2 mls a day, the battery is still showing just over half full. The outer build quality definitely gives me the impression of being good and solid which is largely the result of the cast aluminum case and screw-in top and bottom plated metal covers, but I don't yet feel as confident in the long term reliability of those tiny micro switch button or the black translucent display staying firmly attached with all the finger presses it will get. Hopefully I'm wrong about those last two concerns.

What would I like changed in V2? Not too much actually:
1) Spring loaded 510 connection, of course.
2) The ability to apply an accurate Vrms output to match the currently available voltage/wattage settings.
3) When the screen is off, require a single press of the up or down button to show the current watts/volts before changing setting.
4) The 510 connection moved about 2 millimeters back from the display side so that 19 - 20 millimeter wide tanks don't hang over the front edge a bit.
5) Slightly larger font for the resistance and the applied watts/voltage displayed beneath the resistance. (The primary displayed watts/voltage is fine)
6) Cosmetically I'd personally like to see a classic brushed stainless case to match the numerous brushed SS tanks.
7) Oh and you can lose the useless puff timer.

Ok I guess that was rather long. Thanks for reading ;)

Great review. I rarely make a purchase on something that I've never bought before without looking up reviews. In turn, I review items as well. You covered all the key points and answered many of the questions that I had about the iStick. Now my only question, iStick or the MVP 2.0? I'm fairly new to vaping and am looking for my first upgrade.

Like most things to do with vaping I think that's a subjective question - I have an MVP and since yesterday I also have an eleaf istick. Being a small person with small hands I find the istick much more comfortable to use (a) because it is that much smaller than the MVP and (b) I find the rounded edges easier on the hand. I also find the button on the side of the istick easier to use than that on the front centre of the MVP. I found the button on the MVP quite difficult and I think the reason it is now held in place by a piece of sellotape is that I found myself pressing it too hard until it eventually fell off !! All in all I have to say I prefer the istick over the MVP and when funds allow will definitely get another one :)

Wonderful, detailed review and pictures! You mention specific points that clarify some of my wonders.

Nice job, man!

p.s. again....great photos.

Thank you 67Tele!

Thanks D91ICE. The MVP2 has a massive fanbase and well deserved I'm sure. I've not owned or used one but I have to agree with Maytwin. Other than the MVP2 having proved itself during the last couple years and a claimed 500mah more battery capacity, I can't think of anything about it I'd rather have than the new Istick.

Great pics and review Mortis. Pretty much everything I would have to say about it as well. I built some 1.5 coils the other day with cotton so I will give them a try but I figure I will keep to 2-2.2 ohm for my Kangers. Realistically my Nautilus mini will live on this as it seems like they were made for each other.

Update on my impressions: This morning my silver Istick battery capacity is still showing slightly more than half full, which is very good considering I've been vaping on it quite frequently since Friday afternoon. However this brings me to another possible concern I'd like to run by any technical folks here on ECF:

As of this morning my coil is reading 2.1 ohms as tested on both Isticks and my Sigelei Legend. I've noticed that the strength of the vape did not seem quite as strong as it did yesterday, which may be understandable since the coil resistance has gone up approx 0.1 - 0.2 ohms since yesterday and I always run my mods in voltage mode, whereas watts mode would have compensated for the change in ohms.
So I put a fresh 18650 batt in my Sigelie and set it to the same 4.6 volts as the silver Istick. The vape hit on the Sigelei seemed identical to the silver Istick. I've only vaped on the black Istick a few times and it still shows almost full capacity. I then set the black Istick to the same 4.6 volts and the hit was noticeably harder than the silver Istick or the Sigelei, to the point of almost burning the juice. Ive noticed this behaviour on all my large capacity ego VV batteries when fresh and just assumed it was a modest quality chip in them that didn't maintain a stable regulation of the set voltage.
I'm therefore wondering if the chip in the Istick does no better a job of regulating voltage than typical ego VV batteries; meaning that it does not accurately maintain a set voltage as the battery depletes, And will actually put out higher than the set voltage even when set above the native battery voltage while near a full charge.

Any thought on that from you experts? I realize we shouldn't expect top notch performance from a 30 - $50 mod but I previously had the impression it simply couldn't regulate accurately below the native battery voltage, but now it seems like it can put out too hot even when set above the native voltage when fresh.

Thanks Hammy! A home-built coil at 1.5 ohms may very well work nicely on the Istick, but I agree that 2 - 2.2 ohms is probably within the sweet region of the Istick's operating range.
I also agree that the Nautilus and to some extent the Emow mega 1.8's seem made for the Istick, particularly the Naughty Mini.

I do believe as the battery goes down, so does the power due to not being able to step down. I suggest using vw mode only for a consistant vape.

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand your reference to my update. An accurately functioning regulated mod should maintain the watts when in wattage mode, and should regulate the voltage while in voltage mode. I do understand that wattage mode will also adjust the voltage in order to maintain the set wattage. My concern is that the Istick is not maintaining the set voltage when in voltage mode Even when set above the native battery voltage during a fresh charge. I understand the Itick has gained a reputation for running too hot when set below the native voltage but now it appears to run too hot even when set above the native voltage. In other word it may not be accurately regulating down OR up in relation to native.

Another update: As I said, I started vaping on the silver one around 4pm Friday. Since then I've been vaping on it almost constantly most waking hours of the day; and at 6:30pm this evening the battery indicator finally started flashing after showing empty about an hour ago. I had to turn up the power a bit the last while to get my desired hit, but it still hit hard enough and never died. I just figure since the batt was flashing, I'll put it on the charger.
More than a 48 hour period of frequent vaping on a factory charge; not bad at all.

I've since started on the black one; we'll see how that one performs. I'm definitely finding the fire button on the black one much nicer to press, but it already did the 'non-fire' issue one time shortly after I started on it.

What would I like changed in V2? Not too much actually:
3) When the screen is off, require a single press of the up or down button to show the current watts/volts before changing setting.

You probably already know this, however, to see what my current settings are I hit the fire button once quickly and it turns the screen on without firing and shows the current settings. This may not be what you want as I can see how using the up and down buttons to turn the display on without making a change would be a benefit. I just thought I would pass this info along in case it was useful. I am fairly new to all of this and what I am posting may be basic knowledge to most and only new to me.

Actually you're right Tech Junkie. I wasn't thinking properly when I wrote #3. That option isn't really necessary when the screen is on so often anyway; and as you say, just tap the fire button to display the setting. Thanks for reminding me.

I am certainly no expert and not even a techinical type of person. One thing that I do know as I stated in the long thread is that Lion batteries do level out and most even hold a charge longer once they go through a few charge cycles. I suspect that you and a few others that have mentioned the same are experiencing that which is normal for this type of battery. Hope that helps.

Thanks salemgold. If I understand you correctly, a battery may put out a higher voltage that than the advertized native voltage when new. Does that mean, under those conditions, a regulated mod may not be able to hold that voltage down to the displayed set voltage even when set at or above the advertized native voltage?
