Right.. just because it isn't a cigarette doesn't mean that its ok to use it wherever you want (and justify its use with an 'its my right' speech). Just imagine someone shooting up with a syringe filled with saline solution. It is not an illegal drug but you can bet your ... they would throw you out no matter what.

Diabetics giving themselves an insulin shot, or someone having an allergic reaction taking a shot of epinephrine wouldn't be thrown out.

Its all about perception, always was, always will be.

Non-threatening, and not evil. Thats the goal.

If I was a non smoker I would not want to be around it either.

Thats why its important to talk about it

I used it at a restaurant in my town (very small town, they all are out this way in NJ :) ), I was showing it to the owner when talking about quitting (she's been bugging one of her employees to quit for a long time), some customers saw, and I talked to them about it too.

They loved it. Some of them were going to tell their wives/husbands about it, one was going to talk to her son about them. We even talked about the FDA and ASH. The common response? "What, are they trying to tax it or something? Thats so stupid this thing makes sense".

The more you talk about it, the more people know, the better off we all are.

Not going to beat up on Nico, sometimes you just gotta behave yourself, Dude.
What interests me more is the lack of comment about how tactless the manager was. It's his/her job to deal with the public, and the public comes in all sorts of different flavors and degrees of attitude. Working retail for 7 years, I probably would've ASKED him to refrain from using it in the store. I'd give him the reason being that he's going to make all the nasty smokers jealous, because up front and that close I'd be able to tell that he's not smoking a cigarette and it's not something I'd be familiar with. I might even have gotten a chuckle out of him. I would've asked him though, "What the heck is that?" then ask for a demostration, but outside the store.

Well, and another point for me personally, is that I STILL haven't been able to bring myself to vape anywhere that smoking wasn't legal in the last 20 years. I know that probably back in the day that people could smoke in supermarkets and stuff (someone confirm?) but if I can't remember every being able to smoke in a place, I haven't been able to bring myself to vape there.

I guess that it just doesn't feel right to me, even though I thought that I would do it. They recently made it where we can't smoke in bars through the whole state, but I will still vape in a bar as long as the bartenders are fine with it. But as everyone has said, places are private businesses and can do what they want. Even strip clubs can legally tell you that you can't come in there without a male companion if you are a female, just for being a female. And that's totally legal for them to do. (Has to do with coming in being a jealous girlfriend and starting crap) Point is, private businesses have a right to deny you for anything if they want. If they aren't cool with you, shop somewhere else or just put the PV away for the next 10 mins that you'll be in there.

I was at a Chili's a couple weekends ago with some friends. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and food. I was using my PV and the bartender said with a smile, "What is that thing?" I showed him and expalined it to him. He said, "I don't think you can use that in here." To which I reply, "But, it's not really smoke. Nothing is burning." Him, "OK, but I still don't think that's allowed." A waitress passes by and he points it out to her. She confirms she has heard about them. He tells her he doesn't think they are "legal" to use there. She said, "Sure they are."

Moments later the regional manager, who just so happened to be there that day, approached me. He very politely asked me to explain to him what I was using and how it worked, noting that he was sure I was asked to do that a lot. I confirmed and proceeded to explain. He thanked me for explaining the device to him and he appreciated the fact that it helped me quit smoking. He also said he didn't have a problem with me using it there that day and wouldn't ask me to stop. But, he also stated that he would have to check with his Health and Welfare department to see what they think about it. His only concern was that other patrons might think it was a real cigarette and call in to report it. Then Chili's would get slapped with a fine.

Since then, I have been using an M403 with a blue LED. I have gotten some strange looks and even heard outbursts of laughter from across the room while I use it, but nobody assumes it's the real deal.

Right on, that's exactly why I got the 510 in black with a blue LED. I didn't want anyone to be able to say to me what he said to you. It's cool though that you were nice about it and he's going to even check with some head honchos about it. It's all about awareness and knowledge.

As it was pointed out to me today, Nico has been having personal problems lately. Excuse him for his crazy actions please.

Regardless of the sequence of events, handling this particular situation
by exhaling into ANYBODY's face and telling ANYBODY to suck your stick
is exceptionally bad form. There is NO excuse... ever. The kid is just
asking for trouble. Many times, getting it put right back to you - and
then a little more - is a cure for what ails 'ya.

Ah, yes, the good ol' days. I remember when the hospital had ashtrays in the waiting area. When you could smoke in movie theatres. Food and drink were prohibited in stores, and you still needed a shirt and shoes, but smoking wasn't prohibited. Where there was no segregation in resturants and bars between smoking and non-smoking. I even remember when seatbelt wearing in your car wasn't illegal and regular leaded gas was sold. Oh, yea, and recording companies weren't blamed for teenage sociopaths. Just think all the good special interest groups and our gov't has done for us over the years.

Applebee's is the only place in town that has asked me not to vape inside...
I had a real bad experience at Applebee's last night.

For the last 2 months, I never had problems breaking out the trusty RN4081 and vaping while enjoying my frosty cold beverage after work at this restaurant next to my office. Went last night though after work, and had the embarassing pleasure of the manager not quite politely tell me in front of my supervisor and my teammates that I can no longer "smoke" that in here and I would need to take it outside, new company policy. :-x

Smoke that???? Ever since the stupid FDA report came out, all of the sudden I am a smoker again with my PV? I now have to be chastised and shunned again just like when I was smoking cigarettes? Even one of my teammates (who is a smoker none the less) said that it was BS. Man I am ......!

Just out of curiousity, has anyone had this experience yet?

maybe i'm missing the point. these are non-smoking venues, and everyone is pissing and moaning about not being able to vape.

one question.

did you all buy ecigs just so you can think you're special and just vape wherever you please? is that the reason?

or did you get it to use as an alternative to tobacco smoking?

you couldn't SMOKE in these places before, so now that you have a PV you act like it is your god given right and manifest destiny to use your PV wherever you please.

really?

sigh.

I switched as an alternative to tobacco cigarettes, I have not however, tried vaping in a non-smoking establishment. It seems to me, the hair being split here that has already been answered, "Is it Smoking?" Since people of authority i.e. law enforcement, judicial, establishment owners and such had found the distinction of vaping different from smoking, what we are hearing is that "Since I am not smoking, why am I being targeted like a smoker?" I liken it to comparing a zebra and a horse. A zebra is really nothing more than an African horse, yet a horse and a zebra are classified into two completely seperate groups. You can probably "break" a zebra like a horse to ride one. Even throw a saddle on one and yell giddy-up. Down south you might not be able to marry your horse on a Sunday, but, the law doesn't say anything about marrying a zebra. So, would it be wrong to marry your zebra, morality aside? Since using a PV is not smoking, should smoking laws and prohibitions, be used to refrain a person who is doing an activity that is not covered by law, but in appearence seems to be?

i understand everyones opinion on nico's actions... but in his defense... "somewhat"
the bay area is the closest thing to "new yorker type mentality" on the west coast . and everyone knows what happens when they p-off a New Yorker....
jus- my 2 cents.

BB

As an ex New Yorker, I can honestly say that if someone walked up to me and unexpectedly blew something in my face, they may be picking their .... off the floor.

I'm the foreman of a HUGE sheet metal shop with lots of open space and more than adequate ventelation. Because of current state laws, smoking is now prohibited in our shop. I wasn't big on snus and nasal snuff just wasn't cutting the mustard. So, to answer your questions, yes. I picked up vaping as an alternative to smoking and be able to use it where I can no longer smoke. I feel I was robbed of a certain liberty and now I feel vindicated. By boss doesn't have a problem with it nor do any of my coworkers.

More often than not, my e-cig has been well received. In places where people or establishment owners/managers have a problem with it, I simply put it away.

So what the hell is the problem here?
