Today when I rebuilt a Ithaka I was looking at the center pin. I wanted to see how much I could open it up (drill it out). I had previously drilled it out from .055 (1.4mm) to .062 (1.6mm). The next closest drill I had was .075 (1.9mm). This might be too big because the smallest part of the center pin is at the bottom of the top threads. That little shoulder below the threads measure only .093 (2.4mm). This would leave a very thin wall in this area only .009 (.25mm).

I went ahead and drilled it out as this is an extra center pin anyway. I used a small countersink to clean up each end and assembled as normal. I used small pliers to tighten center pin to the ceramic housing real tight. I almost tried to break it.

Airflow is much improved. It is almost as open as Ithaka update but more open than Penny V2. It is somewhere in between those two. I would not recommend this to anyone unless they have an extra center pin and are willing to lose it if it breaks.

So I haven't been keeping up with this thread and had a question about the ithaka update. I've had many problems with leaking/gurgling with the ithaka (non update version) I was wondering if people who have bought the update kit have had better success in building it. I've followed many videos on how to build a coil properly on an ithaka with a 50/50 chance of it working properly which gets frustrating.

Wondering if it's even worth buying the update kit or not. I'll be honest, I love how the ithaka vapes when it's working right, but when it's not, it's the worst. I've lost a lot of juice trying to get this thing to vape right all the time.

Hi villarino, I have the updated Ithaka and I've had no problems with it at all. It doesn't leak, it doesn't gurgle (except for the one time the juice control opened up without me noticing when I unscrewed the top cap to refill it. I didn't lose any juice though).
Also, every coil I've made on it has worked. I'm a beginner and I've only had the Ithaka for a couple of weeks. Made quite a few coils though because I wanted to practice and to see how different resistances and coils vaped.

villarino, have you swapped out the center post top nut to the new (shorter) one? The updated Ithaka works great but so does the non updated version. If you tell more about your leaking/gurgling issues I bet the people on here can get you sorted out.

Yes, I've swapped out the center post top nut to the new smaller one. It's hard to explain, Ive done singe coil builds with 1.5, 2, and 3mm wicks and also dual coil set ups with them parallel to each other as well as crossing. I've also tried cutting the wick right before the channel goes down and also have tried wicks going down the channel. To be honest, I've tried A LOT of configurations! And yes, Ive also lubed up orings with ejuice as well as petroleum jelly. Ive also changed all o rings to see maybe if they were the problem. I thought maybe my wraps were too tight, too loose, etc so Ive also experimented with those as well. Thinking maybe I dont have the juice control open enough so I would usually just do half a turn more or even sometimes less...Sorry but I feel like I'm just rambling on and on. But you get the point!

Like I said, I've had builds where it would be perfect for a tank or two then it would start leaking or gurgling again. Trust, I've read all the tips and tricks and have done em all. I'm a little hesitant to buy the update kit just cuz I've read people having problems with leaking/gurgling with penelope v3 which is basically the same concept as the ithaka update kit...

I wish I can get a trial period with the update kit just to see if I can get it right...although thats pretty far fetched

What I expect from an atomizer as expensive as the ithaka is pretty high. I dont think I should be messing around with it TOO much (if theirs such thing) for it to work properly. One thing that bothers me the most is the vape not being consistent. I literally have a hard time bringing my ithaka out to places especially if I'm only bringing one mod and atty just because I dont know if itll work properly for the day...
