It's interesting that some people honestly think "high end" mod prices are justifiable.

Meet Me in St Louie Louie
I make custom electric and acoustic guitars .. a labor intensive, time consuming labor of love .. I gave up being Bill Gates many years ago .. I can't crank them out like an assembly line .. thus, I only can offer a limited number for sale in any given year .. yet I still have to pay the bills, etc ..

Thus, I ask substantially more money for them than what most folks would for something more mainstream ..

I know what it costs in machinery, time, material, commercial real estate, etc .. and I feel I have a right to make at least a living wage ..

My customers are willing and able to pay for something they value .. even knowing that, for the most part, a guitar once it reaches a certain level, is not substantially better ..

I am a proponent of all things left that are Made in the USA .. if a mod fabricator can develop a following and the "mystique" that goes with it .. if they truly produce a high quality product and have a market, then kudos to them .. it can be a long hard road with a great degree of sacrifice early on ..

One would think anyone in here with machining/cnc experience complaining about the pricing of mods would see the opportunity to make money in this market.

Now lets get back to hating the people who we should be hating. I'm talking specifically about Lance Hunter, the ....... who lives down the street from me. Let's forget he's filthy rich. No, he is beyond rich, he has vast wealth. Let's forget that he collects Lamborghini's - yes COLLECTS them - and uses them for daily drivers! Let's forget about the fact that he's extraordinarily handsome and brings home wave after wave of what can only be super models or playboy playmates. And lets forget that after he spends his night pleasuring unbelievably beautiful women and that he spends his days doing pro-bono eye surgery for little kids who would otherwise go blind. Let's forget that when he doesn't vacation in the Riviera, he's off doing Doctors Without Boarders work... Where was I?...Oh yeah, lets forget about all that and discuss why we should really hate him...his dog pooped on my yard and he didn't clean it up immediately. My wife says its because I want to be him and can't but I think it's cause of the dog pooping incident. He cleaned it up the next day and resodded part of my yard when I complained about it but I still hate him. I mean, I just want ONE Lamborghini and ONE supermodel...Is that too much to ask? I hate him.

Oh lord, when u have cash like that you get pleasured......lol

I also made the argument that they both hit the same, I still stand by both.

You stand by the theory, while completely unfounded, that people are limiting production to create perceived rarity?

Not only is that not even in the top 10 reasons for rarity of price, it just doesn't make any sense when you look at the industry.

A couple of people designing mechs in their home, then running to someone with the tools to make said parts, is about the least economical way of doing it. I'm not saying it's wrong, but if farming it out is how it's gotta be made then so be it. Second, let's say the cost of a 200 dollar mech when you factor in the creators feeding their families, 1st world wages and material costs, and the cost of having it machined by someone else is 100 bucks.... That's 100,000 dollars to make a thousand units. I don't know about you, but risking the shirt on your back for such a niche market device, in order to make it "available" would be dumb. If you can pay the bills making 200 at a time, that's what you'd do.

I agree.....a stainless tube that holds a battery should never cost 225 dollars. So ridiculous what people will waste their money on....I buy clones left and right and they vape just fine

Yet modders make thousands and still can't keep them in stock...

If it's such a racket, it seems like there would be lots of people making "tubes that hold a battery" and charging 200 bucks. Strangely there aren't. Could it be that maybe there's more to it than that?

The bottom line is the "value" of something is what people are willing to pay for it. Do I think that some comic books are worth over 2 million? Absolutely not. Yet some people do and are willing to pay that. It has nothing to do with cost of materials but simply to do with what someone is willing to pay. If people stopped buying things for $225 the prices would drop but until then you can bet they will stay where they are.

I wouldn't pay anywhere near the listed prices for these:

There is only one reason that this car is worth what it is.

Again, you really think it's hard to keep a metal tube with a switch in stock? It's not, even if you outsource from wherever, they do this crap on purpose.

Also for the record they NEVER make thousands. When was the last time you saw Caravela #5679 or Nemesis #7689 (that WASN'T a clone)? It doesn't happen because they never make that many. This is why so many people resort to clones, well that and because they don't want to be ripped off.

Yes, very much so, I still use my Provari my Rio and various other mods, however my issue isn't with them. My issue is mostly with mechs that cost the same or 2x as much as a Provari and are nothing more than a tube and a switch. Read my prior posts in this topic.

Your tinfoil hat is showing. I believe a lot of modders have said they generally do a run or two of something and have a new design they want made. For the record, while it isn't a mech, my ithaka is something like 5800.

The simple reality is for some of us things like a REO or a Provari ARE painfully expensive. Coming up with $200 all at once is difficult. My Monthly vape budget is less than $75. I spend about $35-50 on DIY juice, wick and wire and the odd bit or bob from China to keep me vaping until I can save up the $200 for the REO + RM2 that I really want.

If it is a choice between going back to cigs or using cloned goods I will by God use cloned goods. NOTHING will make me smoke again. I will get my high end device eventually. $5 is the piggy bank here, $10 there it will happen.

The issue just isn't black and white for some of us. No matter how I feel about the ethics of cloning. Cheap goods are my only avenue to saving up enough not to need to buy cheap goods anymore.
