Reading on this forum you'd think the ecigs are a huge deal, but out in the real world 99% of people are completely ignorant. I'm starting to grow weary of explaining what it is. LOL However, I find it sort of fun explaining to folks and trying to get smokers to convert.

I've been also pushing it by openly vaping in many places where smoking is prohibited. I get some weird looks but nobody has told me I can't vape somewhere....although I did have to explain it a few times and there was no problems because they can't even smell it. One funny story....I had a resturant server come around the corner after I just expelled a HUGE vapor cloud. She was looking in the air at the cloud like "wtf" is that. After a few seconds of looking and trying to smell it she just walked away. LOLOLOLOL

Do you find most folks in public are ignorant when it comes to vaping?

I vape wherever I want. People around here, aren't as uptight as they are in a lot of areas. I vape in the grocery, Home Depot, or anywhere else I happen to be. I've had a few people white eye me, but nobody has said anything to me about it, yet.
I've vaped in restaurants, but we're still aloud to smoke in restaurants, so nobody seems to notice.

I'm still pretty new to vaping in public, but some of the reactions I've gotten at work are priceless. A few of my co-workers have asked questions about it, and I answered fully to the best of my small knowledge. What I couldn't answer, I told them to search for this forum, since everyone here has been nice to answer my questions.

Not sure if I gave the right answer or not when one co-worker asked if it was dangerous to inhale the vapor, and all I could reply is "is it dangerous to inhale a humidifier that's running?" Then another one was teasing me that I was standing there smoking a glow stick. But since several have expressed interest, maybe I need to carry the address of these forums for them to find their own information.

Im glad that you arent letting the sarcastic comments/jokes dent your resolve. Thse comments arent worth taking seriously. Those are pretty good replies, if not a bit sarcastic. Stay focused on trying to help others.

I had an incident when I was driving home from work. I was at a 4 way stop and there was a police officer sitting there. He saw me smoking my ecig and followed me for a while, I was chain vaping at that point becuase I knew exactly why he was following me. Blowing plumes of vapor out my window, I had to stop at a convenient store for milk and he followed me into the parking lot I quickly explained it was an ecig. He said in his I-am-a police office-repscet-my authoritiiiii-voice, "it sure doesn't look like one". I then told him that I sound like a white guy but I am sure not one (i am asian). He kind of looked at me funny and drove off.

I ended up calling my buddy who is a police officer in the next town over and he said that officers do know what ecigs are but most never have seen one because they are not mainstream yet, he got a good laugh out of it.

Another thing I've discovered is that 99+% of smokers WANT to quit. Sadly, not many of them follow through with my suggestions even though they know I'm on a great plan and they see it working well for me.

I have run into this as well. I was talking to a friend of mine that is on a tight budget and it was basically rationalized to me by him saying. "If I spend the money on that I won't have the money for smokes."

I can understand the feeling and struggled with it myself before I finally coughed up the dough... I know that for me, for many years any excuse I could use to justify continuing my habit of smoking got used. It didn't even have to be rational. Just something I could tell myself.

On a note about public vaping, I think it's kinda like that scene in "Fight Club" where they are trying to pick fights with strangers. Most people are just not that confrontational even if they think you are out of line. No one so far has said anything to me. I have gotten a few strange "WTF" looks but that's it.

Cards are a great idea though I'm going to have to get some of those.

For many smokers (including myself until a couple months ago)....they assume that this is how to Quit cigarettes...and that thought in and of itself, throws up that invisible barrier that they "know" deep down inside they can't get around. Because ultimately, this is a decision they have to make for themselves as to whether they "can" or not....I changed the language a little bit by saying I've changed the habbit, instead of I broke the habbit when talking to anyone about it. It seems that they respond better....instead of "hell no, I'm not gunna quit" ...I'm hearing more "really, hows it work? and you say its cheaper than smoking?"

I need to push the "cheaper than smoking" part more. That's something that all smokers understand! LOL

JMHO, 99% of smokers think they want to quit because they are told they should quit.

If you truly truly hated smoking you would make the effort to quit. We were told we're addicts, we're killing ourselves, on and on. There is a brainwashing that goes on. All the propaganda about being a nicotine addict, being made out to be a pariah because you smoke and all the non smokers being put on a pedestal above them.

Because of this most all smokers think its great and pay attention when they hear that you have "quit" smoking and switched to e-cigs, but then give you that same "look" and attitude as non smokers when they find out the e-juice contains the dreaded and evil nicotine, and that you continue vaping instead of quitting completely. All because the anti tobacco crowd keeps spouting that we should not be inhaling anything.

I get this all the time from smokers I know that have seen my progress off of cigarettes. They think its great at first and are so interested in it until they find out that I am still vaping, especially after they hear that the juice contains nic. I explain that you can control the level of nic you use and even ween off if you desire, but they only see it as "still being addicted".

Smoking is so easy, just buy a pack and light one up. Many do not want to make the effort to acquire and learn how to use an e-cig, so they keep on doing what they do and mope that they are a dreg of society. Even though I still see so many people from all walks of life standing outside or sitting in their cars smoking.

Now I just point out that it is a healthier, cheaper, alternative to smoking. Most people who smoke do so because they enjoy it but the cost is the main motivation I find that makes people seriously consider quitting, that was main point for me.

Got this one gal at work that won't even entertain the idea of e-cigs because it is "just substituting one habit for another". Why is this?
Because:
1-it is easier to just keep smoking, no learning curve, no effort
2-its not a easy "fast" quit fix (same reason diet pills and home Abb machines sell so well)
3-cop out

Meanwhile I see her getting reprimanded for stepping out for a smoke too often and hear her keep complaining about having to spend cash on smokes. You can lead a horse to water but........

Just have to remember not everyone is going to be open to the notion of using e-cigs or see things from the point of view we have taken.

HAHAHAHAHA....INDEED! :p

Everything you said jives with what I keep seeing. The longer I vape the more in tune I am to all of this.

One strange thing I have to add...

I used to smoke with a lot of different people at work on a daily basis. It's kind of like I'm out of the "cool smokers clique" these days. LOL I almost feel shunned by all the smokers now that I've become a non-smoker. They all know I vape and I've conquered smoking. Almost all of them made the claim that they wanted to quit smoking and start vaping for various reasons from health to money. Out of the 10 of them, only one actually went on to buy a 510 kit I suggested.

One guy REALLY cracked me with his excuse to keep smoking: "I can afford to spend $7 a day to buy a pack of smokes, but I can't afford to spend $35 on that kit". LOLOLOLOLOLOL
