With the looming Woodvil release coming, I was wondering if there are any concerns about the brass catch cup?

As I understand it, brass contains some amount of lead, and eliquid can react chemically with brass, releasing unwanted things into the juice to be atomized. At least, this is the suggested case with brass tanks and why, generally, they aren't commonly used. Can anyone enlighten me on this?

Also, is the brass finished RM2 only brass on the outside, retaining it's stainless finish on the inside?

Sorry for the scary questions, but I wanted to ask before I try to buy a Woodvil.

If you are concerned, then maybe email Rob through the website and ask the Man himself ?
Me personally, I smoked Tobacco for 40 years, was an active alcoholic for 15 years, was exposed to asbestos for four years in a US Navy boiler room, spent 12 years in factories and the last eighteen years as a Trucker. I eat poorly, sleep sporadically, am 30 pounds overweight and do not get enough exercise. I am constantly placed in stressful situation and routinely exposed to bad weather conditions. Add 28 years of Marrige and 6 years of Arthritis to that.

Give me a Brass catchcup, RBA and Driptip, please. Looks good on wood :)

You got me thinking about this, then I realized it didn't matter. A RM2 + O ring around the 510 connector means juice is never really in contact with or sitting in the brass catch cup. Just another reason to go RM2 instead of regular attys or cartos.

are you my long-lost brother?

i actually thought of clstarns's question for about a nanosecond before i bought my first Woodvil. but then i thought about what my tombstone would look like:

After decades of neglect, abuse and other random crap he subjected his body to, he was finally done in by a brass catchcup

if that becomes my final joke, so be it :)

besides, from all the reading i've done, fear of brass in things like RBAs is based largely on misinformation.

Rob has addressed this many times and the jest of it is Their safe or Rob wouldn't use them almost every connection in Vapin has brass in it and or quite a few years has been regulated to not have lead in it if I remember correctly. Most all of your connections on your plumbing at home has brass in it. Just sayin

I suspect USA much the same as here if your house is real old it may have iron pipes and most have copper and the newer ones will have plastic but the copper pipes homes many will also have lead solder which here has been banned for plumbing use but i suspect many plumbers likely still use it as most people wouldn't have a clue then there is the municipal water mains many of which are asbestos go figure eh ? what can one do

Asbestos is only hazardous if it gets into your lungs. You can eat it with no ill effects other than a dose of constipation!

Its use in gasket materials for industry only stopped in the US last year when the Canadian manufacturer ceased production because the mines were becoming unviable. Which is not to say that you cannot still probably get it from China or Mexico, where worker protection legislation is rather less to the forefront.

The biggest danger that using and carrying a woodvil around presents is that it makes me a juicier mugging target!

About the best you can do is filter drinking water. Have to, for sure, use filtered for coffee maker, and distilled for irons and steamers. Our water eats up WH parts really fast. Last 4 gallon, tank, electric, under sink WH I put in kitchen, this year, plummer told me the reason they blew out every three years was because I needed to replace a couple parts every year or get a whole house filter system. And our water isn't even acid; actually a bit alkaline like the soil and rocks. I use an in line filter and potable water hose for bird drippers and plant misters/drippers when I had them, mainly the filter because our water calcifies and corrodes brass so drastically and filter keeps the tiny lines and parts from clogging. Brass hose connections and outside faucets literally dissolve over a few years time. Our water makes me itch. When I go most other places I don't get stinging and itchy from their water taking showers. I keep my pool and hot tub water at or a little below 7.2 pH; otherwise itch. I usually filter the hot tub top up water except when I get lazy; which is most of time. If you want any acid loving plants here beds/containers have to be heavily acified because of the soil and water.

These are the prototypes Before I start a big run of mods I have to build one of each model . I then assemble them to make sure everything is lined up perfectly .I have all the models done I just have to put them together to make sure everything works perfect . I am confident they are ready for production . So here are a few picks of the 18490 and a mini woodvil first coat . The woodvil is still to wet to touch had to pass on the pics .
