Oh, Mini woodville, 14500 battery ? ha ha nvm I found it! That's the 2nd time I have done that in the last 48 hours :) Crap , protected or not. Does it really matter?

not sure if i've ever had a protected 490/500 but my 490 wood doesn't care if it's flat or button.

a protected *might* compress your spring, so i think thats all you need to keep an eye on

ETA: in this day and age, nobody should buy a "protected" battery, regardless of your mod.

Don't tell anyone - I use some older protected 14500's I have kicking around. In an aluminum Mini there is plenty of room - they fit in there fine without having to mash the spring to get them in. My first wood Mini so - dunno yet.

You can't do anything crazy with them though - keep your ohm's in a reasonable range. I'll use them at 1.8 ohms but I don't go any lower than that.

These are the ones you want. They are not protected, but they have "IMR" chemistry which means in the worst case, if all goes terribly wrong, the worst they are supposed to do is get hot and fizzle instead of exploding.

Damn, I bought these instead. Should I try calling them Monday morning or emailing them ? Maybe they will switch them out for me. AW Protected 14500 Thank you so much for the link

It would be good if you can get the order changed, I would try that first. If you can't, then try the ones that arrive, they will be safe to use, maybe not quite as good performance, or if your coil is too low resistance, maybe zero performance. I don't know, I've never had a mini or anything running from a 14500. I do know that AW IMR batteries are recommended for all Reo's. As Rickajho said you might have to keep your coil above 1.8 ohms (with a protected battery), but without actually testing said battery, its really hard to know for sure how it will perform.

ETA - in a nutshell, the protected battery will more than likely have a limited maximum current output that will be significantly lower than an unprotected IMR battery. Whether this limited maximum current will drive your coil or not is the unknown bit.

I am sorry this happened to you.

What I don't understand is why RTD Vapor would even offer the protected. It just adds to the confusion, and they are more expensive. I knew going there exactly what I wanted, but I can see how someone may easily make a mistake and buy the wrong ones for vaping since they are offered in a vape store! I looked at them thinking maybe they were "newer" or "better" but saw protected and moved on.

Do they even have an application for vaping that I am overlooking?

They do. There are still a lot of VV box mods out there that were built/designed around protected batteries like that.

Can anyone recommend a good bottom feed atty (not RBA) that I can use until Rob gets the brass RM2's back in stock??

I knew I should have bought 2 RM2's instead of 1 but was only planning to buy 1 woody. NOW I see how this wood thing works, like Lay's potato chips, can't do just one :)

Have to post them again...like a proud Poppa!!!
