By the way... I'm pretty sure you just bought more wood than what I took home in pay this month... Lol

I'm glad you finally posted pics I really wanted to see what you were interested in. Awesome choices! Next run if there's a plank door I'm probably gonna try for one.

Karen took pity on my gruesome photography skills and compiled pics from the site of what i got from the sale.

Woods sale 2/2014 Dennis - Imgur

the jatoba/koa blem was my top choice, because i am a blem at best. it fits me perfectly, except unlike me, i can't detect the blem on the Woodvil.

my next favorite is the plank door jatoba, which i should receive shortly. i am so stoked to get a plank door. until this sale, i don't even think i knew they existed. big thanks to Karen who pointed this one out to me. the jatobas didn't get a lot of love during the sale and i think a lot of folks missed how unique this is. (not Karen, tho) so now i have an original wood Reo (pre-Woodvil era) with the plunger instead of squonk hole, an OG Woodvil with the Reo logo in the door, a stabilized VVW. and now the plank door. i would be delighted if i only got those two. Other than more Woodvils, not sure what to buy next.

but wait...

my 3rd fav is the 490 Wenge. it looks much better in the hand than on the site. a nice surprise, actually.

but...

i wanted a lacewood. i have no freakin idea how i ended up with two. one will prolly be headed to the trade thread or the classies (for what i paid or less)

i also went kinda nuts on the zebra minis, as you can see. all i remember is after the rest of my A list and most of my b list were gone, i just browsed the pages and went "wow, that's pretty- click". i meant to buy 1 mini, since they might not be made anymore, but i ended up with four.

the purpleheart was a knee-jerk buy for Kay, in case she didn't get one. but she seems to have gotten what she wanted, so...

i meant to buy at least one birdseye, since i gifted my birdseye mini to Peggy. i think i bought the second one cuz i was ticked off at not getting any spalted maple :)

patiently waiting for the mech Woodvil sale...

All I can say Dennis is WOW, I am in awe. Treasures each and every one of them. Trying to give Karen a run for the money huh! You must have had a "war room" full of computers that night.
Congrats

Ugh. You are THE WORST influence EVA!!!! So I'm feeling sorry for myself that I only have TWO, and ran off and found a rare Torchwood to buy just now... 5 minutes later, I'm wondering what I was thinking, and what I'm going to do with a 16340 teensy 2" tall wood mech mod...

You know, I could almost get into that billet box...

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The Billet Box is carto only... well, you can do Diver 2 also, but people complain about the rebuildables in it, so most people use cartos:). I love them all, it's INCREDIBLE how different they all are and they all do the same thing!!!

Ehhh... They're wired. Unregulated mods. Mechs are switch to battery only, like the grands or Dibis creation.

Rob plans on a full mech woodvil run sometime this year from an earlier post he made.

How are wired different from unregulated mods in function? I thought they were the same thing.

Wires can melt, and usually are rated lower amps. Also not what you would call repairable unless you can solder. Also wired in on off switch. Basically one you're touching metal to metal to create contact, the other you're using a wired semi electronic ( no boards ) switch which is in permanent contact with the battery. The switch controls whether or not the mod is firing...

I feel like that wasn't a great answer but I'm sure someone will come along to give you a better and more proper answer

wow Denis that's a nice collection, love the purplehart birdseye and the walnut birdseye and the koa doored one, all were on my radar :). I wish I could have gotten 3 but I was stretching it a bit at 2. also I really had no idea I'd love them anywhere near as much as I do.

tonight I sanded my fiddleback black walnut down a bit and man what a difference. the natural wood finish is really spectacular. funny how I originally thought I wanted urethane and now I really don't even like the urethane. don't like the smell and the way it shines looked almost fake to me, almost like it was plastic. I really liked my natural finish ebony one so much better than the fiddleback when I first got them, but now that I stripped the fiddleback I can't believe how much more I like it, now I think I love them both equally. I'm amazed that I got 2 absolutely beautiful woods without even being able to even see what the main mod body even looked like before hand. I hold these 2 and think I got so lucky, these are probably 2 of the most beautiful mods out of this whole batch, but then I think hey, wait a minute, I bet everyone holds theirs and thinks the same thing  I'm still always going to miss that rosewood that got away though :( if that rosewood ever gets sold I would love to buy it or trade something for it

I'm really shocked at how much I love these. it's almost illogical for me, I really should like and appreciate the metal mods more. wood is soft and weak and delicate and logic should tell me I'm much better off with a metal mod, I never really had any love for wood anything but all of that goes away when I look at and hold these things. today I ran out of juice in my woody and I went so far as to take the juice out of my metal reo just so I can continue to use the woody. the shape and feel and look is just so damn good that I really love them so much more than I ever thought I could :)

They are no different in function. Its just that the strict definition of a mechanical means no wires which also excludes circuit boards/VV/VW etc. But wires are very good conductors of electricity, that is what they are designed to do. What atties are you running in your Woodvils? One looks like a Pheonix? Nice pic!

Regarding divemedic, one of our own, he's also selling his used Grands, looks like something happened. Hope he's OK.

LOL. we all know what a metalhead you are and it's a kick to see you loving the woodies so much :)

the shape and feel is spectacular. like i've posted before "if you come across anything that feels as good to hold in your hand as a Woodvil, you should probably marry it"

I knew I'd love the wood, it's so organic and warm. I did almost the same thing, sanded my polyurethaned one down a bit, but not to the bare wood, just hit it with 1000 grit sandpaper so it wouldn't be so shiny and fake looking. I like the natural wood much better, but I couldn't know that without having gotten one of each:).

when it comes to full mech vs a wired mod, personally I don't have a problem with wires. wires transfer power well enough to serve function for every car plane boat and just about every piece of electrical equipment in existence, all function perfectly well with wires to complete circuits much more demanding that heating a tiny coil so I have no problem with wires, but in a metal bodied mod then full mech does make a lot of sense for simplicity and design sake. if a wood mod is made into a true "mech" all that means is wiring is replaced with rods and the switch becomes an open design allowing maintenance of the contacts, where a wired mod usually uses a sealed switch that doesn't require nor allow any contact maintenance.

personally I don't see wiring as a limitation, as long as the wiring is adequate for the load then to me it's really all about the switch. the switch is really what makes or breaks the overall functionality of any mechanical mod, weather it's wired or uses brass rods to complete a circuit or a even if it's using a complete metal body, the switch is still the biggest factor as long as everything else is adequate for the load required. it's all about the switch and how resistant it is to oxidation and deterioration of the contact points. how well it does it's job for how long before it needs maintenance. to me it makes much less difference what form the rest of the circuit is made of, wires or rods or a metal body, in the end it all comes down to the switch. a good switch with adequate wiring will perform as well as any mech out there,

this is why I love electronic switches such as whats used in the dna chips so much. self contained always 100% connection for switching the never needs maintenance, always performs at 100% potential and never deteriorates it's contacts because they are silver plated and sealed in an inert vacuum inside of an electronic component, never exposed to oxygen at all so oxidation of the switch is never a possibility. sure regulation and adjustable power and a useful display of info are all nice bonuses but in the end it still really comes down to the switch :)

I'm the same way, been saying that for years .... It could be plywood or MDF under that poly and it would feel exactly the same. The point of getting wood is to feel the wood :D

I say oil or even natural finish all the way.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark here.... Dennis might play 'creepy stalker' and pretend to be underhanded, but those fine selections will not remain his forever. It would not surprise me if some of our Fixed Income REONauts get a PM from Dennis soon, with an offer tailored more to their price range. After all, this is REOVille. Even our Creepy Stalker has a Heart of (Woodvil) gold.
And I'm sure whoever gets them will love them as I love my three.
