Hey all,

So I've just relapsed on smoking cigarettes. I've been 6 months smoke free and started vaping about almost a year ago. I picked one up as soon as I turned 18. I was a 2 pack a day Red smoker starting when I was 15 up until I was 18. I started mainly just because of a stupid youth decision, but regardless I just finished a whole cigarette and feel like smoking another. I picked up my vape and am vaping as I type this, but I feel absolutely terrible and guilty for this short coming. Do y'all have any tips on how to combat the feeling of wanting/needing a cigarette even when you've been vaping? I'm already at a high nicotine level (12mg in an Atlantis 2), but I don't know if that could be the reason.

I appreciate this forum for everything it does and the people in this community.

Well, IMO that's allright so long as you will not stick with smoking, I've been vaping since 2011 and I've snuck a few cigs here and there, especially when I'm drinking. And that's a helluva lot better than smoking 2packs of marls red a day! If I'm going to compute I may be smoking about 5-10 cigs in a month, only when drinking or socializing :)

Don't beat yourself up! You're not the first or only one to give into the urge, it happens. It's really the ones you didn't smoke that matter - 2 packs a day over 6 months is 7200! Good for you to start vaping again. When I first quit, I had to chain vape sometimes to get through the urge. Eventually, it became easier, but I'd still sometimes think 'this would be a good moment for a cigarette'. I just grabbed my PV and vaped away instead.

If you can't take your nic higher and chain vaping 12mg is too much, try some at 9mg and go for it. It's sort of counter intuitive, but it might work.

Try a different flavor to entice you to continue to vape. As we age our taste buds change and vaping is no exception. Just because you hate lemonade doesn't mean it won't be your ADV try different flavors you thought you never would like. If your not into diy juice, try it ! Part of the addiction (for me) is to keep motivated and stay on task so I don't feel the need for one. When you get the urge build a coil (my favorite is building my name in a coil) doesn't have to be productive the point is you don't allow yourself the time to think about a smoke. Or you could visit a local b&m or check fastech for their new arrivals or whatever your favorite site is. Build a wish list on a website. The possibilities are endless. Trick is to always have a vape near by when you do any of this. Get intrigued by learning about a new tank or RDA YouTube pbrusardo for a good laugh. Google battery composition, you will learn some pretty crazy words. If all of this doesn't work and your still craving a smoke, have one, no where in "the book" says once you vape it's illegal to give in once in a while, your only human don't beat yourself up and certainly don't dwell on it. Get your fix and move on to better things. At first all of this stuff seems time consuming but once you involve it into your daily routine you can accomplish many if not all of them in one day in your downtime. Stay strong.

My best advice for killing the cravings has been just chain vaping away when they hit. Admittedly, that's been a while, but a slightly lower nic and constant hand to mouth really helped me out. Also getting a dripper helped put a little more routine in my vape, which helped me cut down a bit.... just because I'm lazy lol. We're all different.

If you really feel like something is missing still, why not try out WTA juice? I remember @AndriaD saying that it was almost necessary to really cut back on her cravings. There's a whole lot more than just nicotine to the addiction.

Actually WTA completely removed all *cravings* but it won't remove thoughts from your head; you have to do that part yourself. ;)

You just have to ask yourself: "What do I really want? Do I really want to be chained to a cigarette for the rest of my life, or do I really want to be a non-smoker?" No fudging; no "yeah, but..." -- either you want to be a non-smoker, or you don't care. If you want to be a non-smoker enough to try anything that might help, then I HIGHLY recommend WholeCig WTA, the 24mg; I started out using it as 10% of my vape; now down to 2%, after stepping it down since the first of the year; I expect to be completely done with it by the end of year, if not well before. Yes, I know it's expensive -- I've been using it for over a year! But it's still less costly than cigarettes, in EVERY POSSIBLE way.

I've never used over 10mg nicotine, but I smoked ultra-lights for 20+ yrs before I tried vaping, and 12mg made me nauseous; I had to start at 6mg, while I was still smoking, but as soon as the cigs were gone, I had to go up, to 8mg, 9mg, 10mg, where I parked it for a while; been at 9mg since I got my Achilles RDA, and I believe my next mix will be 8mg, due to some heart-pounding insomnia lately. Despite my relative lack of tolerance for nicotine itself, I did smoke for 39 yrs, and my brain really needs those other tobacco alkaloids, if I want to avoid cravings so intense I would say the hell with vaping, GIMME A SMOKE RIGHT NOW!

You just have to figure out what you really want, and then live with it.

Don't beat yourself up...one cigarette in 6 months is a huge feit, especially coming from a 2 pack a day habit. I'm not gonna lie, I've slipped up a couple times myself, but it was a good reminder why I quit smoking and started Vaping. Sometimes we need a reminder to remember why we started vaping to begin with...
My advice would actually be to lower your nic down to 6mg and chain vape like someone else mentioned. It's the only thing that worked for me. Sub Ohm vaping is the only thing that helped me quit completely, and it's hard to chain vape on 12mg nic.
Anyways, keep up the good work. You did the right thing by telling on yourself and then picking the vape right back up.

Find a decent cigalike; try an Njoy.

Hi! :)

You sound like a person who really knows yourself well for someone so young. You have a great experience now that you know how much smoking harms you and doesn't really accomplish anything for you. It can make us feel unhappy and out of control. You are so far ahead by quitting so early that you can reverse every bit of the damage analogues have inflicted. Others here have pointed out how long you made it, and I believe you can easily get back on track. Focus on how much you have accomplished. You can make it!

I've been vaping for 3 yrs +, I still smoke an occasional cig. It really bothered me the first time then a good friend told me this.

" You smoked, so what, keep vaping. If you slip you slip but how much would you smoke by not vaping? For every cigarette you don't smoke is a win. Just don't get down about it and give up. Don't focus on the days you haven't smoked, instead focus on how many cigarettes you haven't smoked."

This is what I remember anytime I do light one up, which right now has been quite a while. I'm not advocating anyone to smoke but we all now how it feels. We got how long without one then bam, smoke. Then it's like why start over, that's why most us vape as its worked a lot better than anything else but its not fool proof by any means.

Just keep strong and move on.
