I don't know how to quote multi quotes, so please bear with me Pictor. I remember reading what an artist said about staring at their canvas...

"I think that as I work on a painting, my eyes are forever roaming back and forth and assessing things. It used to be a tortuous task coming to the conclusion that it was done to the best of my ability, and I would sit and stare at it from a distance for some time or leave it where I’d see it at odd times. Now I seem to know more instinctively when it’s finished ..I suppose it’s when I perceive nothing nagging for more attention. Sometimes, before a painting gets varnished, I will decide to adjust something if I see a need."

I know where your head is at because I have been there myself when I thought I was not being creative. What I did, and it is easier to say than to do, don't think, just do what you know is right. I have all the confidence in the world in you and your best has yet to be painted.
Yes, I remember writing that :) I am thinking about what I'm actually doing far too much ..usually, I did the thinking before I started work, and whilst doing other things ...now, I'm almost afraid I won't make it the best it can be, so hesitate to go further in case I spoil it. I need to get back to where I'm thinking of a lot of things while working, sometimes the next painting I'll do.

Man, I wish I had been raised in England. I most definitely would have hung with you to see all those wonderful British bands back then. Mayall & Clapton...I'm sure an unforgettable night. I did get a chance to see Cream at the Whiskey, that was the smallest venue I saw Cream. After that, they were selling out convention centers.
We're in the middle of the east coast, so back in the 60's, travelling to London was almost like setting out on an expedition! Nowhere near the easier 3.5 hour journey it is now - we just didn't have the road structure so it took twice as long. No-one had the money to get to such venues either ..unless the family was well off, things were tight in the 60's
America is such a huge country, you all grow up well used to travelling long distances, and do have wide, open roads between states/cities etc. mostly too.
The coffee bar that I went to had a dance floor at the back and a stage, and we got plenty of visiting groups, some of them very well known, others not so well known, but excellent musicians. I sang with one of them for a while - much to my parents and voice training teacher's dismay.

I was having lessons with a view to my perhaps getting to Covent Garden Opera after school was finished (heaven knows where my parents found the money for the voice training). I was also in three choirs too as a soloist. The Beatles phenomenon (and others) turned my head and a break from opera was suggested. By the time I'd have liked to go back to it I'd met my husband and opera, art etc, all took a back seat until my 30's when I picked up a brush again.
I did see some good shows though including, Chuck Berry, The Moody Blues, Wee Willie Harris, The Searchers, Manfred Mann. When the Beatles were in town, the hotel they stayed at by the sea was close to where I lived, but people didn't mob places back then.

What key do you want to play it in? Since it is in a minor key, let's center it around the Dorian scale...shall we? ;)
Sorry - couldn't resist
But yes, Dorian is fine! ;)

Just found this! Holy schnikey's! BB King has a man crush on Derek! Starts at .56 mark! Highlarious!
 oh dear! ...but that was funny!

you'll want to peruse this thread then...helps explain some of the features.

Oh dear - hope it's still there after the change-over ..I'm not looking forward to getting familiar with a new forum!

It sounds like you & I have the same heartache when we think back on our album collection that we stupidly (well...me for sure) gave away without thinking. We used to go to a record store (Aaron's) on Melrose Ave and would buy promo copies of the latest released albums for 20 cents to 75 cents. Amazing the stack of records you could get for $20. I had orange crate boxes lined up in my apartment full of records in alphabetical order. LOL...more orange crates than furniture. Fortunately, I kept all my cassettes for some reason or another. Music that can never be replaced.

To this day I miss the Blueberry Hill bootleg for lots of reasons, but the biggest being that it was recorded at The Forum in Inglewood and I was at that show. :(
I do still have a box full of records upstairs - likely well used. I didn't realise the potential value of some of them when I got them because I was too young to appreciate such things.
I still have the Sansui 222 MkV turntable I got way back too - elder son has it at the moment.

This whole change over, to be honest, has this old man kinda freaked out. I just know technology is taking another step in passing me by. It's either that, or I am just stubborn and don't like change once I get something dialed in.
I don't like change either ..this forum seemed to work well - I've seen far clunkier ones!

I really am trying not to freak out and I will be just heartbroken if I lose the wonderful people I have met here on ECF. I know in the back of my mind everything will be fine and I will figure it out and adapt. The social media stuff does not concern me cuz I don't have Facebook et al. I do have a twitter account that I use one day a year...the trade dead line in hockey.

I saw the Dr last week and he made an appointment for me on the 27th. He would not tell me if he was taking it off or not, but I swear to whomever, if he doesn't take this *#^Q)%)&*!& thing off of me, there is going to be a physical altercation. I really have had it up to here with this cast.
I hope everything will still be in place once it's done - haven't read that thread yet ..too many other things to do at the moment.

Hope you get that cast off on 27th! :)

Last night Bob & I briefly talked about our record collections that we no longer have. Literally, hundreds & hundreds of albums fondly went thru my head, but for some reason or another I kept thinking of this album. I believe a pretty good case can be made that John Phillips was one of the architects of the Los Angeles Sound.

Frell yeah...never mind the crazy goings on in his group, he was one of the founder of the LA sound and if memory serves, one of the (if not THE) folks for setting up the Monterey Pop Festival

You are absolutely correct Shane. It was pretty much John's party, he just happen to have a few friends like Lou Adler & Derek Taylor point him in the right direction.
Before Coachella, before Bonnaroo, before Live Aid, and before Woodstock, there was a 3 day party in Monterey. I am one of the few kids my age that admits to not being at Woodstock, but I did spend 3 days & nights in Monterey. If my memory serves me correctly, tickets were a whopping $6.50 per day. The Association were the opening act for the show and this was the first song played at Monterey. It still hurts my heart to this day to know how perverted John Phillips was in his private life.

Yes, I like that - recognise his voice and the track is vaguely familiar too.

I've just been listening to this - a very British sound:

It was the very first CD I bought and I've loved this track ever since. Seems full of gnawing nostalgia, hope, bittersweet ...gently washes over the mind.

He is such a good guitar player. There is not a bad song he has played on, and feels every note he hits.

John Phillips is probably associated the most with this song Pictor.
It was this very track that went through my mind when I heard him on that other one! :) This has always been a favourite too!

Speaking of the LA sound, on any weekend, you could find this band playing at The Ash Grove, Pantages, The Roxy, The Whiskey, The Troubadour, The Unicorn or any of the other 3 dozen or so clubs in LA.
Yes! Great band :)

I did not realize you were so far north of London Pictor. But having Scarborough in your back yard is a positive. I mean what could possibly be wrong with parsley, sage, rosemary & thyme? Hard to go wrong with that mix.
I could happily live in London ...Paris is favourite. I like watching life go by sat with a good cup of coffee! - but both way too expensive!
But, if I could live anywhere with no compromises, it would be Oban on the West Coast of Scotland. First time we arrived there (I was working with a gallery there, and it was my first visit) we came over the brow of a hill overlooking the harbour and I got an overwhelming feeling of having come home.
A week later, when telling My Dad this, he was surprised that I hadn't realised the roots I had there ....my paternal grandmothers original home. Sure enough, next time we went, there were a lot of my ancestors on the war memorial. Obviously, I knew she was Scottish, but had thought she was from Dundee until then!
Peaceful place to sit and gaze out over the sea and islands, and good for the soul :) ..actually, Local Hero is what came to mind each time I did that :)

This is one that I've really liked a lot ever since I first heard it - and such a shame that there wasn't more! :

Anywhere in Scotland would work for me. I could collect border collies and let them herd sheep all day. :) That was great hearing how you felt at home the first time you saw Oban. Don't you love it when the Universe talks to you? I can imagine how proud you must have felt visiting the Memorial.

Paris and I did not get along well at all. I am an American and well...the French don't like us. Hell, do they like anybody?

If I could live anywhere, I would give Prague some serious thought. Great vibes and the architecture is beyond words and everyone I met was down to earth. I liked it a lot.

Can you see the water from your house? I'm like you, I enjoy looking at bodies of water. It's really peaceful to me.

Pictor, there is a great concert live happening right now. You can listen to it at Widespread Panic is on Mixlr. Mixlr is a simple way to share live ...
Great! Thanks ..and I don't even need to sign up to anything or download stuff! :)

Widespread Panic. Ready to dance mentally while you're working?
Sounds like a plan! I'll likely be working for another hour.
Or you could put down the brush for a minute, wake up hubby, and dance. :)
Ha-ha! You just don't know how funny that is! He'd likely have me committed thinking I'd finally flipped! He's great, but doesn't do spontaneous lunacy!

This, is my time - the night is mine ...I can work in peace: listen to music now and then, listen to the news bubbling in the background, or just enjoy the nightingale singing in the garden :)

So yes, I'm listening :2cool:
