I realized I read your instructions wrong, dan, as I just cut up EACH SECTION of the PTB up to 1/8 inch. That left a whole intact section of the PTB roll in each cart rubbing up against the atty, with the frayed part at the bottom of the cart.

After making new carts with fully shredded PTB in both my Stick and the Blu, I have to say that the Blu's doing a great job with it. My JS, OTOH, isn't that great with it. Lots of leakage and crappy vapor production.

I'm still experimenting with JC Tennessee Cured and on my first day of comparisons. But so far, I'd say Fluval's better for large carts and PTB for small carts. I'll see how things go.

When I reread the post, I could see where you'd make that mistake. I should have worded that differently. Good to hear that it's working better now. I was wondering why you were getting so-so results while mine were much better.

I may go back to the original filler on the 510 if your theory stays true to larger carts. That, or try a completely different method with the larger cart size.

Was looking at what exactly a quilling tool was, and you're right nepenthy, looks like it would definitely be custom made for working with the PET. Looks like you could really manipulate the rolls and folds much easier than by hand. I may go pick one up.

That's funny, I didn't know such a thing existed and have been using a makeshift version for PTB stuffing-- I duct-taped two sewing needles together. :) Makes rolling the PET much easier.

My current method, which seems to be working great, is to cut open the tea bag so you have a single long rectangle of PET, then cut a long strip that's a little shorter than the cart is tall, AND angle the cut so the strip tapers linearly down to about half the height of the cart at the other end. That way when you roll it up (narrower end at the middle of the roll) and keep the straight side level, the roll has a sort of "cup" hollowed out of it that the atty wick can rest in.

So I roll it up tightly, flatten the roll, use scissors to cut lengthwise almost (but not quite) all the way from the top to the base, flatten it the other way, cut again, and now the PET is shredded at the top end. Then I usually unroll the whole thing and roll it back up more loosely. (This is tricky after the PET is shredded, but not impossible with practice.)

Pop it into an empty blu cart, trim if necessary, add ten or eleven drops of liquid, insert into mouthpiece, pop on an atty, and it's good to go. :)

Did you ever get your 510? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

Okay, well, it's here, and so far I'm underwhelmed. Vapor production so far is waaaaaaay less than I consistently get with my blu, although I haven't done the PTB mod on the 510 yet. Still, this is with a fresh, full cart, so it's a bit disappointing. I mean, it's less vapor than I remember getting with my blu and the stock foil-sealed carts! Might be a bad atty, might just need to be broken in. Can't say yet. Right now I'm charging up the battery (the vendor said to use it for 20 minutes and then charge fully), so maybe that's all it'll take.

Also, it's big. I knew that, but now that I'm actually holding it, I see that it's almost the same length and thickness (and color and finish!) as the Sanford Uni-ball pen sitting right next to it, if you were to remove the little half-inch conical bit with the pen-point. I find it clumsy to use, especially because of the manual battery. There are only so many ways to hold it and still press the button. I'll get used to it, I imagine.

The throat hit is solid, probably because the atty gets so hot. If you're after throat hit, there's no comparison, the 510 comes out far ahead. Personally, I don't much care about throat hit, but I am a little concerned about the atty getting so hot. It certainly seems to be changing the flavor of the liquid, though that may be residual primer in the atty.

The PCC is all-metal, yet somehow feels kind of cheap. There's a push-button that opens the spring-loaded lid, though I'm not sure why, since you then have to remove the atty and battery and screw them together, which takes two hands anyway. I like that it has three LEDs to show its status. It's both narrower and thinner than the blu pack, though a fair bit longer. It looks nice, though. The matte black of the case and the batteries and atomizers is classy. ;-)

It's early days yet, though. I've read that the atomizers can take a pretty good long while to break in and also that the primer taste can stick around for a long time, too. And I have five of them to break in, now.

[EDIT: Okay, after fully charging the battery and still getting weak vapor, I pulled the filling out of the cart and restuffed it, and now I'm getting much more what I expected from a 510: thick vapor that's on par with the blu at its best, so performance ought to be even better once I have time to PTB these carts. Now there's very little flavor to speak of, though.]

My experience with the 510 is pretty much on par with yours thus far. I thought this was really going to be the ultimate vaping cig. One week later, I've got one atty that really does well, nothing as spectacular as I thought it would be, and one atty that's a dud. I honestly believe that if the blu had no cutoff, it would produce more vapor than the 510, and I find the blu attys more durable with less fuss on cleaning. I may just start using my 510 batteries on blu attys for the best of both worlds. Oughta get some good vapor on that combo.
