my two cents: I agree with Cat. It's hard sometimes to be acknowledged in a new group. I've seen it happen in here, and other places. It just happens, and it doesn't mean that everyone isn't really nice, but I think we can all make an effort to recognize when someone new or not a regular chatter pops in.
