gonna order one, right now I have a saddle valve that I have been punching cartos with
so, I know COV has a punch but that one is kind of expensive for a poor person like myself. Anyone know of a cheaper one that is still good quality?
The cov & vip punches are the only ones I know of that won't deform a carto. Well worth the extra bux in the long run.
cov has the "bigbuyer" discount code. In the long run, those punches will save you money. It's just the up front that blows.
It's definitely an investment that you won't be sorry you made. By the time you go through all the saddle valves, you'll ultimately wind up with the more expensive one.
some of the early pre-punched cartos I bought were dented in pretty good. I got used to the small hole that is in the DCT cartos and the saddle valve is able to replicate the small hole perfectly...it just takes some time to do it. Was thinking about making a lucite block that I can mount the saddle valve into to get the perfect small holes. They seem to work good unless you run a heavy VG liquid then you have to open them up a little bit.
there is another one in strprs video that is 25.00. i started with the saddle valve but often use a drywall screw and a hammer. I lay the carto inside an old opened book to hold it.

the problem with the saddle valve is that the needle isn't designed for repeated use. It dulls quickly and deforms the carto even more.
Im thinking if I end up making one I need to find a steel punch with the approximate size of the saddle punch as I like the small hole that it makes, just seems like alot less flooding
never tried them but it seems like they would flood out, not to mention it takes alot more work to slot them instead of punching them.
I've never used one. You need to be careful with slotted cartos and the inner o-ring though. The slot can cut the o-ring.
I highly recommend saving up some money & getting one of the good punches. By the time you add up the unsuccessful solutions, wasted cartos & juice (not to mention potential tank damage), the good punch pays for itself.
You've made a wise choice. It will save you money & headache in the long run.
