I was looking at Joye's website and there was a thing about fake Joye ego's being sold.It provided this picture:
egocopy.jpg

The real kit on their site looks like this:
2010041215265173499.jpg

Notice how the real kit has one atty and the insert only has room for one PV and one Battery only.
I only bring this up because I recently bought an ego kit that looks exactly like the fake one.It works, but suppliers on here should not be selling them as true Joye products.

My eGo bought from Nhaler.com has the lower plastic cutout (The extra atty in their kit is an LR included separately), though my bag has no logo like the knockoff kit. I'm pretty sure it's still real though and they maybe didn't put labels on all the bags in every run. One cone, one atty, two batteries.

Friend of mine ordered an eGo from VaporKings and got two atties, two cones, all in the same box. They advertise it as an "Authentic Joye" product.

This calls in to question every site that sells two atty eGo kits, which is a lot of sites right now. They're all pushing counterfeit merchandise? That's pretty compelling if theres any weight to it.

so is a RIVA also just a fake ego ?

No, not really. What joye are trying to say is that there is actually a company selling ego under the name ego that are not made by joyetech. Whilst the riva is obviously of a similar style/class to an ego, it is sold as a riva. Clones and the like have been around for an age, 901's that are 4075's and then what's the difference between a 901 and 510? Further back, what's the difference between a 901 and a 103.

These are counterfeit products made by a mystery manufacturer. Such good copies that nobody on ECF noticed until Janty started looking at merchants kit (probably those who were selling the eGo but were not registered vendors).

I'd be interested to see the batteries dissected from one of the fakes and compared to genuine ones.

One way to tell would be the translation. Joye Manuals are usually translated with well written English. (Because Janty usually makes the original manual) Then when the Generic version comes out they just use Janty's manual with Joye written instead.

In this picture you'll notice the charger warning on the little white piece of paper is poorly translated. I'm guessing the manual will be as well.

EDIT: One more thing, the newer ego's from Joye Tech are all rubberized. I'm guessing the fakes are probably painted

Riva is different specs it has a 750 mAh Battery compared to an Ego @ 650mAh, the button is also nicer in my opinion on the Riva, The Riva is just as good if not better I have 10 of each and use em both everyday.:D

I'm not letting this thread die because it's a serious issue that needs addressing.

Frankly I'm concerned with LibertyFlight's flippant attitude towards this as a Registered Supplier, who sells eGo kits on his website. Of course he wants us to think nothing is afoot which is why he brushed any evidence of something contrary to the side.

Probably the same battery :p

Probably the same battery? Yeah right. You yourself are selling "genuine" equipment on your website. You want me to think that this stuff is still genuine, when Joye has put out a press release clearly saying that they DO NOT make it.

This is why supplier's should not be in the discussion forums in the first place.

so, please help. The kit I got from .. is like the photo on the top. Is this the fake one ? If so, do you think the supplier knows ? Note : my batteries have had gremlins move in...they keep blinking on their own, not hooked up to anything and I was going to contact them today, but I will wait to see if these are "fake". I am sure they wouldn't sell fakes intentionally.

I have been around counterfeit goods for many many years. I was once a seller of fake watches and purses although I never tried to pass them off as real, customers knew what they were getting.

The chinese will replicate just about everything. From watches to ipods/iphones, jeans, shoes, batteries, etc. Many fakes have become expertly detailed recently. China does not enforce intellectual property laws like the rest of the world. It is no surprise that these have popped up. I am sure many other models have been faked previously.

These are knockoffs of the ego, which is itself a knockoff of one of Cisco's laser mods.

Everybody copies everybody, and that's really not a bad thing for us consumers, because competition makes for lower prices. If you come up with a good idea, eventually somebody will steal it and sell it for less. That's just how it works. If you get upset over that sort of thing, you shouldn't be in the electronics business.
