Just a question for former heavy smokers

How did you do it? My lungs were in agony and I felt like I had nicotine poisoning after a pack a day, I couldn't imagine smoking 2,3 or 4 packs.

My use over 30 years was an average of 1-1.5 PAD, with short periods of 2-3 PAD under times of stress.

All I can say is that it took a lot of dedication LOL. In all seriousness, half the time I was simply not aware I'd smoked that much until I counted what packs remained in the carton or, recently, when my husband would point it out. I typically paid for it with worse coughing and breathlessness.

My smoking had actually begun to increase in the month before I quit and switched to vaping.

It's not like you plan to be a heavy smoker, it mostly just happens, especially for somebody like me who became ill and now can't really walk too well. I tend to spend most of my day if not all of it parked in front the computer because I really don't have the ability to do much else.

Since I have no insurance, it's not like I can get a wheelchair or anything (seen the prices of those things lately?) and it just kinda happens. One day your smoking a 1 pack or so and before you know it you've got off into something and without thinking your lighting up a lot more often.

Let's see. I started smoking at age 9 (don't ask about my family and why). By the time I was age 12 I was up to about a pack a day on the weekends. I got married at age 14 and that made it a pack a day every day. Add another 30 years of slowly smoking more and more and we are now at 2 packs a day. Go on disability and be unable to work or leave home much and you end up with 3 packs a day. See how simple it is?

I am vaping at 24 to 30 mg right now and I vape all day and night. I hope to gradually reduce that too, but I have no nicotine reactions to that amount. Sad when you think about it. But at least I have finally gotten off analogs.

I've always heard that tobacco contains a mild painkiller. That's why you feel crappier in the morning and a little better after the first couple smokes.

When i was drinking heavily, i used to chain-smoke up to 5 packs in a day. Somehow i got it whittled down to a pack and a half or so per day. And you're right, it's a killer!

 started at age 9? And married at age 14, in what country? Don't see that often in the States. Makes me feel like I'm not very productive. Good job on kicking the 3 packs/day tho

Lung problems I put aside, I was chasing the dragon. Never did catch him. It is an addiction, and when other things in your life are not going right, the simple satisfaction of relief becomes essential to your being. I didn't have access to or money for "stronger stuffs", so cigarettes were my natural outlet from the stresses of the day. 4 PAD, down to 2 PAD, down to 1 PAD directly to 2 PAD and then vaping. Works great, less filling. :)

I suffered for it.

For the last few months before I quit, I made an effort (yes, an effort) to keep it at 30 a day. If I wasn't making an effort... it shot up to about 40-50 a day. I smoked Luckies, Pall Malls, and rollies. Sometimes filterless.

I'm 21, with no history prior to smoking of any sort of throat or lung problems. I had chronic tonsilitis. I got phenomena. I already had a pretty bad morning cough. My gums were rotting.

That's how I did it. I was sick all the time, in the prime of my life.

I smoked about 2.5 packs a day. it was an impulse. I wanted that smoking habit plus the rush of nicotine. With vaping I can still chain vape and now if I get too bad I drop some 24mg in my cart and vape till I get a tad light headed and then I stop. Bad right? Sorta my method to keep from vaping too much or overdosing or feeding the habit cause I work on the computer at home.. my habit tends to get worse with my freedoms:oops:

I didn't have my first cigarette until I was 17. About 3 months after my 19th birthday, I was smoking regularly about a pack a day. That quickly turned into a pack and a half a day, and at parties, I was known to go through 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 packs. I think the most I ever smoked was 4 packs in one day.

Depression had a lot to do with it. "I'm depressed. I think I'll have a cigarette. That ought to make me feel better. Nope. Maybe I should have another. Maybe I need a third." Etc...etc...etc... Sometimes I would put away a whole pack just like that. I'm still battling depression, but at least now when I vape I don't feel physically bad.

My norm was a little under a pack a day but there was exceptions when cigs were stress relievers. Days like that I smoked over pack, sometimes two a day. At night I'd wheeze more and the next day I paid for it big time.

Consider me your recycling center for Njoy Pro, Smoking Everywhere Gold, Cloud 9, Smoke 51 Trio, and DSE103 useless batteries.
Other hardware if it’s still usable.
Those I loan out to/give to thank you.

Yeah, I remember on one night when I was about 18 or 19 in college being extremely bummed out about getting dumped by the girl I was seeing. As soon as I got off the phone with her, I went outside, sat under a tree, and chain-smoked almost an entire pack of Lucky Strike non-filters. Funny how I suddenly remember that from almost 12 or 13 years ago, having not thought about it for almost as long.

I would think it's like this...

A non heavy smoker (less than a pack a day), lights a cigarette and smokes it heavily. Then an hour or so later has another one. Alot of time between cigarettes.

A heavy smoker (more than a pack a day), lights a cigarette, but doesn't really inhale constantly. Only takes a puff or two every couple minutes, and sets it in their ashtray in between puffs. But then lights another one only 10 or 15 minutes after the last one. Very little time between cigarettes.

So
A heavy smoker constantly has a cigarette lit, but they are not constantly inhaling on each cigarette.
A non heavy smoker smokes each cigarette constantly, but does not have one lit as often as the heavy smoker.

And of coarse there are many varying degrees in between each extreme...

I believe anyone who says the smoke more than 2 packs a day, isn't really smoking the whole 2 packs...maybe only actually smoking 1/3 of each cigarette...

Just my 2 cents..

May be the case sometimes, but at my worst I was smoking 4 packs a day .... to .... COMPLETELY. I never thought I would say this three months ago when I first saw the Smokingeverywhere ad on TV, but these devices are Godsends.
