I'm so excited guys!!! I just built my 1st microcoil for my Protank and I'm about to fire it up now!!
.. I just began my 1st attempts at rebuilding coils for my PT yesterday - my 1st attempt was 3.9ohms (too high for my eVic), 2nd attempt was 0.8ohms (too low), 3rd attempt @ 3.4ohms (it was usable, but still too high to get a good vape).. My 1st attempts yesterday were with 0.14 Nichrome wire, today I ran out and grabbed some 32gauge and 30g Kanthal Wire to get some better practice.

Also I'm using 2mm Silica Wick; I wrap the wire around about 1 and a half strands of this so about 3-3.5mm of wick total.. So just now I busted out my 32g Kanthal and built a few more practice coils, and met my goal of getting 2 or 3 of them around 1.9-2.5ohms.. Than I switched to the 30gauge, and tried my hand at building the MICRO-COIL that I've been wanting to try so bad!!
My 1st attempt at building the MicroCoil - wrapped my 30g Kanthal about 10 times, wrapping very closely and carefully so it's even, with no spaces.... (***Drum Roll***) ..... coming in at 2.3Ω!! BINGO!! And it looks perfect.. Can't believe how easy this was on my first try!
:2cool: ... I've been wanting to try building this MicroCoil for a few weeks now, since I 1st read about it hear.. The rumors of this super-coil functioning better than (or similar too) a sub-ohm RBA build, but still @ a standard resistance so you don't need a Mech Mod for it!! And I've been wanting to re-build my protank coils in general now for months, mainly hoping for better performance/flavor/vapor-thickness... And I've finally done it!! Now I can get into RBA's and such

About to fire up this Microcoil now guys!! I'll let you know how great it is.. Any more feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks ECF for all your help!! :p

About to fire it up right now my man, I'll let you know in a few minutes.. On a test fire (to watch how the coil heats up), I'm noticing that it turns red in the middle of the coils 1st, than the heat slowly spreads to the outside of the coils.. Is this normal??

It's my 1st microcoil build so I don't expect it to be perfect, it looks pretty great though.. Will report back in a few!! :D

That's awesome. I've built a few microcoils in the evod heads I use in protanks and other things.

I wrap the wire around a 1/16th drill bit. Install the coil with the drill bit still there and I take the drill bit out and put a small piece of cotton through and then a bigger piece on top for the flavor wick. Works real good.

How much cotton are we talking?

For the coil, just a tiny bit. I get a small pinch from a cotton ball and twist it tight on one end. You want it to slip easily thru the coil, when I feel a bit of tension I pull it back the other way, soak and vape. For the flavor wick I have no idea, I use an RM2 on a Reo

i am still waiting for the first microcoil user that has not changed the wick at least once in 2 days.

It's easy as hell. Takes me about a minute or two. Quicker than dry burn. I still use silica and mesh in the evod heads. The cottons flavor is better though.

It's the same process just add more cotton on top.

I pinch a tiny bit off from a qtip and twirl it in my fingers. It's pretty thin. Then I slide it through, it has to have some play cause the cotton swells when full of liquid.

Length wise about the same as stuck head?

This guy!

I wrap cartos ss mesh hybrids micro, they are amazing, maybe last a whole year idk one has been going for 3 months now..
clean dryburn vape..

The cotton wickers change their wicks a lot because the enjoy doing so.

To the OP yes if it glows from center out you have built a badarse coil..

mine fire all at once, coil red, legs dark, I use doubled r legs or nr/r legs. I usually never coil leg single wire..

Wow, thanks for the quick replies everyone!! I've been vaping my 1st MicroCoil build on my Protank/eVic for about an hour now, bumping from around 5.8-7.2 watts with some 50/50 Hazelnut & Cotton Candy blend..
Unfortunately. I hate to say it, but it's not what I expected.... The first few hits were dry and rough on my throat, but after it got going, it did sound like it was sizzling more than usual, so I was expecting a huge hit. It is pretty good, but nothing amazing. About on par with a brand-new stock 2.5Ω PT coil; maybeee a slightly better flavor.. And I noticed that it's bumping around 2.4-2.6Ωs now that I've plugged it onto my Protank and filled it with juice, it was 2.3Ω when I first checked it on my eVic, before I put the top-post back on or screwed it in/filled with juice..

.. Could this possibly be because I'm using Silica wick for my Microcoil, instead of Cotton, as EricH said?? Or maybe because I dry-burned it before ever using it or filling up my Protank with juice to test the coil, or maybe just not the greatest build? I used a paper-clip to keep the wicks steady as I wrapped the coil around them, yesterday I was using a taylor's needle to practice on regular re-builds.. Maybe I wrapped it too tight??
I don't know, I might try 1 or 2 more MC builds tonight, unless I should wait until I get some cotton? Oddly, I don't have any cotton-swabs or cotton balls laying around the house; will have to grab some tomorrow..

i am still waiting for the first microcoil user that has not changed the wick at least once in 2 days.

This won't be a problem, because my stock Protank coils only lasted 2 or 3 days no matter what I did - and I usually only vaped with them around 6-6.6 watts (pretty low) lol.. I could be burning through one each day on not care, because of how cheap they are to build!!
........ But the entire reason why I wanted to put in the effort to rebuild my protank coils in the first place, was not to save more $$, but because I was hoping for a better performance (flavor/vapor-thickness &amount /TH) from them.. I was really hoping my MicroCoil would outperform any Protank coil I've tried on it, and give me an idea of how a sub-ohm RBA setup would vape like!!
Maybe I should build another 1 or 2 before I keep ranting.. What do you guys think??

^^Any more comments, guys?? Do I need cotton instead of the Silica-wick I used for the microcoil to perform well, or maybe I wrapped the coil to tight onto the wicks? I used a paper-clip to keep the wicks in place while I wrapped (used a taylor's needle when practicing yesterday, maybe that would be better?).

It really seems to be about the same as a regular stock protank-coil, nothing special really.. Maybe my 50/50 pg/vg juice can't wick fast enough on the Silica, like EricH said. Was really excited and hoping for something more
And I know I said it was 2.3Ω when I first checked it on my eVic, but when I filled up my PT with juice and screwed on the coil/bottom, it started jumping around from 2.5-2.9Ωs!! It's usually 2.6Ω when I check it now, but my eVic has done that before with other coils, it will say 2.5 and than I turn it off/on and than it says 2.9Ω.. Weird huh??
...........................Disappointed, to say the least.. lol

I use silica in my protank with a "micro coil" but I also use 4 Mm of wicking in the coil. Works great, I just figured out how to make cotton work well after many tries before. The coils will adjust and ohms will flux a bit. but once the coils get seasoned it will stabilize. Some of the shorting accross is reduced as they build a layer of oxidation. A higher ohm micro should perform like a lower ohm standard coil.

I think you'll have better results finding something the right size for your wicks and prewraping the coil and threading wick into it. At least i do.

Unscrew the protank until you see bubbles rise with every other vape. I run mine at 1-2 turns loose most the time to get good saturated wicking.

With my 4 mm wick I don't change my silica wicks for a while. Got my first cotton past 2 days now. 10 wraps 32 in protank.
