I followed the instructions in this video which was recommended on this forum:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3keMI4j-kg&feature=related

I dried everything out on the baseboard heater, now I just burned the crud off the coils. They heated to red almost instantly, and produced a light smoke. Then I did it again. They heated to almost red and produced less smoke. Then they stopped heating up altogether.

So it seems like it is dead? This is a new, rebuildable stardust clearo that I got from canvape. I used it for perhaps 5 days, and then I put it aside for cleaning when it got a bit of an icky flavour. This is the first time I have cleaned a clearo.

So what's up? Are the coils dead from overheating? The battery is fine, btw, I tried it with another clearo afterward.

If the coils don't heat up and turn red you have a blown coil and should replace it. If you have a variable voltage battery that checks resistance you can check the coil that way. You could also use a multimeter to check coil resistance. Check that the coil is screwed down all the way, if it isn't making contact with the battery you have no power.

Do you have a rebuildable one? The rebuildable ones have replaceable wicks and coils that screw in and out. If not, ignore that part. I watched that video and there are much better videos on cleaning the Stardust clearos. Here is a link to one...https://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_944197&feature=iv&src_vid=DWOlpiA1h0s&v=wH2jsiyrCFM that I think is much better than the one you linked to, it deals with replacing the wick and coil. Here is one that talks about just taking it apart and cleaning and dry burning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UUGPGF68gc If you wait until the clearos have dried before you dry burn them it will take a lot less burns to do it thus extending the life of your coils. Needlenose tweezers work much better than a paperclip to remove the nipple and silicone cap.

Sounds like you had the button pressed in to long as you were dry burning your coil. Yes it is dead. :(
